☀️ Get ready for summer! ☀️ The nice weather is coming, so it's time to get your dog ready to be out and about! Our Summer Style group class focuses on patio manners, hiking/trail walking skills, greeting other dogs, traveling skills (camping, car rides, etc.), leash manners, sitting nicely for petting, and more! This class is a unique hybrid of training both at the facility and off-sight locations! It's a popular one and fills fast! Registration is open in Paw Partner.

Let me tell you a story that happened to me last week. My dog was pacing in the house. She was not settling, which is unlike her.. she usually knows that being home means lounging around. At first I let it go, but after a little while I finally did give her a "go lie down cue" and she settled a few feet away from me. About fifteen minutes later, I saw a stray cat wonder by. I'm betting it had been wandering around for a while, causing my dog's initial pacing.

Why am I telling you this story? This is dog training. This is why obedience skills matter - she needs to know what "go lie down" means (move away, lie down, and relax). But the feedback she received was just as important - pacing around for hours is not allowed. Obsessive window watching, pacing, barking at noises all day long.. these little behaviors create reactive dogs and/or anxious dogs. And I'm betting if I didn't interrupt her in this moment, she likely would have continued her pacing because that's who she genetically would be without guidance.

Most of dog training comes down to what you do in all the "in between" moments.. day in and day out. Dog training is what you allow and don't allow. It's the feedback you give your dog. It's what they find reinforcing or not reinforcing. This is dog training. Setting aside time for formal training to work on skill building is important to build a foundation for obedience, but if you aren't training your dog in the daily moments by giving them feedback, it will show in their lack of house manners, leash manners, relaxation ability, and more.

One of our top priorities is teaching you (the human) how to be your dog's leader. We are here to help. This is our job, and we love doing it! We can provide training to your dog, which will make life at home much easier, but please know that working with a trainer through a private lesson or group class is a great way to ensure everything is transferring as it should. We can also come to your house and provide you some in-home feedback on those situations that are specific to your household. If you are looking to do an in-home lesson, reach out! We currently have some Tuesday afternoon availability.

📢 NEW CLASS ALERT 📢 We are offering a Canine Good Citizen Prep class starting March 31st at 6:45 p.m. This five week course will cover all the skills needed to pass the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test and have a well behaved pup! Don’t want to take the test? No problem! Whether you plan to take the CGC test or not, there is lots to learn and much fun to be had in this class, because every dog should learn to be a polite member of society! Don’t miss out! P.S. The CGC test must be performed without treat rewards and in a regular leash and collar. If you’ve been wanting more help and information about how to fade out of treats or tools, this class will help with that!

⭐️ Meet Milo ⭐️ Milo comes to day training each week and is doing amazing at learning all the skills! How cute is his "high ten" trick?

How cute are these pups? Two best buds just hanging out at day training!

✨Simple tips for loose leash walking✨The dog in this video already has a foundation and knows to be at the left side. He is a level in his training where his skills are being proofed in public… it’s not a “new” skill to him, so his leash is a bit longer than we’d normally use with a newer dog. It starts by teaching your dog that the word heel means to be at your left side - we do this without moving by teaching the dog to go to the position of your left side. Then we start to incorporate a few steps with a food lure and then fade that lure. Lastly, we add in distractions to proof the dog. What other tips do you have for teaching your dog to walk on a loose leash?

The day training dogs are having way too much fun this week! ✅ Recalls: come when called. Leave the distractions. ✅ Place: Leave alone distractions, go to spot, & stay. ✅ Name discrimination: come for your name only! Great job, pups!

⭐️Gigi⭐️ This sweet girl is new to day training and is learning lots of skills!

One of the best things about our day training program is that even when dogs are waiting for their one-on-one sessions, they are still getting training. You must: ✅ Stay on your place bed ✅ Relax and be patient ✅ Come when called during play group ✅ Sit at the door when leaving the facility ✅ Crate/wait/place quietly without barking ✅ Play appropriately and politely with other dogs. Besides, good training really is mostly about what happens between the sessions… what you allow a dog to get away with, teaching them right from wrong, and helping them understand leadership.

Let’s talk about puppies! This was a FIVE minute session. Just FIVE minutes! And look at what was accomplished in those minutes: 1️⃣ Place command - duration and distance. 2️⃣ Sit - adding duration and a release word. 3️⃣ Recall! 4️⃣ Engagement with me & bonus… ignore the baby! 5️⃣ Socialization to wierd sound and texture. This is only this puppy’s fourth day of training, and he already has a solid handle on these things! Welcome to board & train, Hamish!
