At day training, not only does your dog get playgroup time in a closely supervised & structured way, but they also get one on one time to advance their obedience skills and manners. The entire day is spent working on relaxation, appropriate dog-to-dog interactions, impulse control, and obedience training.

Our first official day of grooming is in full swing! Also, starting in July we have one grooming slot available each Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, so if your dog attends day training those days, they can easily go right over from training to grooming. No extra driving for you!

🌟 TRAINER SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Meet Susan! Susan joined Havana Dog Training in early 2023. She has many years of experience through teaching community ed classes, helping with the 4-H dog program, and competing with her own dogs. She now teaches and assists with a variety of classes at Havana. Susan loves working with owners and helping them realize how great their dogs are and how much fun training can be!

In her free time, you will catch Susan training one of her four Golden Retrievers. Tunes is her retired flyball dog. Tunes has titles in rally, obedience, agility, barn hunt, CAT, and FastCat. Pyro, who is now her husband’s hunting dog, has titles in obedience, rally, dock diving, barn hunt, CAT, and FastCat. Azeri is Susan’s current competition dog. Azeri has titles in rally and obedience. She also enjoys tricks, scentwork, and training to be a future hunting dog! Shuvee is Susan’s newest puppy in training. Shuvee has her CGC and trick titles, and is in training for competition obedience and rally, as well as hunting. Be sure to come meet Susan and gain a wealth of information by attending some group classes!

🌟 TRAINER SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Meet Jurnee and her dog, Murphy! Jurnee started started training with us in 2022. She really clicked with the community and started pursuing a career in dog training! Jurnee works with the day training dogs and is excellent at problem solving and thinking outside of the box. She loves seeing the positive changes and growth in each dog’s abilities.

In her free time, Jurnee enjoys being outside! She loves camping, walking, and kayaking. Two fun facts about her are that she moved to Owatonna from northern Minnesota and she likes cats! In addition to being outdoors, Jurnee enjoys reading, spending time with Murph, and hanging out with friends and family. Be sure to say "hi" to Jurnee the next time you see her!

🌟 TRAINER SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Meet Hannah and her dog, Rev! Hannah started training with us over five years ago when she got her first dog and has been hooked ever since! She’s taught group classes and private lessons, but she currently focuses primarily on board and train dogs! Hannah is amazing at helping each boarding dog feel like they are right at home! She treats them like her own, and the dogs that stay with Hannah make incredible progress!

In her free time, Hannah enjoys hiking, baking, traveling, and Crossfit! Aside from being a trainer, she is a stay at home mom with her son, Callan, and her new baby girl, Enna!

🌟 TRAINER SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Meet Megan! Megan is the owner of Havana Dog Training. She has been training dogs for fun since childhood and has been doing it as a profession for 9 years. In her training career, she has worked with over 1,000 dogs of all different breeds, sizes, and ages.

Megan loves education in all forms. Her teaching background helps her understand the value of constantly staying informed and up to date on the newest training methods. Megan is passionate about generating community and working with families where they are at in any stage of life! She really enjoys one-on-one lessons and teaching group classes! Watching the lightbulb moments for dogs and owners alike is one of her favorite parts of the job!

Megan has four human kiddos and three dogs (Xena - Golden Retriever, Cinder - Golden Retriever, Rogue - Belgian Malinois). She also has two barn cats (Alix & Felix) and two horses (Queso & Ranger). In her free time she enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, and horseback riding. She also enjoys attending dog training seminars and attending mondioring club with her Belgian Malinios each week!

🌟 TRAINER SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Meet Evelin and her dogs, Trent and Maze! Evelin has been with us for a year now! She helps with day training and group classes. She is also a groomer, so she has exceptional skills in the toe nail trim department! We love when she works the days we have lots of toe nail trims because she is a professional at making them look PERFECT! She's also your go-to girl if you have questions about your dog's coat quality, skin issues, and grooming techniques!

Evelin completed the grooming program through Rio Grooming and has a lot of diverse experience with dogs over the past few years. She started as a dog handler, transitioned to being a bather, and then fell in love with the dog world. Since then, she has transitioned to grooming and training. Evelin adds so much to the Havana team! One of her greatest strengths is her attention to detail, which helps her really tune in to helping each dog progress as an individual.

In her free time she traveling and doing all the dog things! She is also a cheer coach for an Allstar competition team known as The Freeze (Owatonna Cheer). Please be sure to say "hi" to Evelin the next time you are in!

🌟 TRAINER SPOTLIGHT 🌟

For the month of February we are going to highlight each of our trainers so you can get to know more about them! First up is Ali!

Meet Ali and her dogs, Boog & Midge! Ali has been with us for two years. She helps with all of our services: private lessons, day training, board & train, and group classes! Over the past year, Ali has started to manage most of the day training program, and is doing an excellent job!

Ali has her degree in Animal Behavior and Science and has really found her niche in the dog training world. Her warm and inviting personality makes all the dogs love her! She has a special talent for helping some of the more nervous dogs feel right at home.

In her free time she enjoys hiking, traveling, and hanging out with her family. Please be sure to tell Ali how much you appreciate her the next time you see her at HDT!

Can you believe this is the same dog? Just a few days of Day Training and Kodak has gone from jumpy puppy with zero attention to a much calmer and focused dog. You can also see he’s in a totally different frame of mind and is ready to listen and learn! He’s ignoring the dogs and other distractions around him. This is why we LOVE day training. Kodak loves the two play groups he gets with his friends each day, but can you imagine how difficult it would be for his owners to walk him on a leash past another dog if all he did was play? He needs the training and downtime to balance out his ability to be calm and listen to commands around other dogs. If every time you take your dog out in public you feel like all obedience goes out the window, Day Training might be just what your dog needs. Learning to listen around other dogs and distractions is huge!

How does your dog respond when afraid? Although this video might just look like a cute trick, it’s really about the dog’s mindset. Does your dog slam on the brakes, flee, bite, or panic when afraid? Using positive reinforcement to make little scary things not so scary is a great first step to change your dog’s mentality about those scary things!

Puppies are little sponges 🧽 Miss Willow had a successful first day of day training! Skills featured: send to place, stay on place, spin/twist, getting into heel position, ignoring distractions (foundations for leash walking), and sit stay! Got a puppy? We can help!

⭐️ Meet Ted ⭐️ Ted loves coming to day training each day! He’s made tons of progress in his ability to relax and not be so anxious. He’s also listening to a variety of obedience commands much more consistently! Ted is part of our ALL ACCESS program. We love hanging out with this goofy boy each day!

It’s Saturday, and what are the trainers doing? Training their own dogs of course! Working on positions and rear foot targets today! Remember, training should be a party, and your dog should be loving it as much as you!
