Contest time!
It was confirmed by our vet that our sweet Brielle is in the family way. So we are taking up donations to help with her and her little family’s care. But to sweeten the pot, the individual who makes the single largest donation will get naming rights and early visitation. If we have three people that each donate $5,000, those three names will go in a hat and one winner will be drawn. So don’t, walk, RUN to www.sparkyrescue.com and click donate. Make sure in the comments, you write Brielle so we’ll know to consider your donation in the contest. Contest closes the minute she goes into labor which per our vet should be in next three weeks give or take.
We are a little giddy over the possibility of having some Dalmatian mix pups but also want Brielle to know this is the last time she’ll go through this. Spay and neuter folks!

Bongo is an 11-week-old lab/boxer mix and one of a litter of eight we took in a few weeks ago from Daviess County Animal Care and Control. There was no way we could say no to that face, and we don’t think you’ll be able to either!

We’re guessing there’s something fluffy also mixed in this litter, because little Bongo is a floof! His brothers may not have a lot of time for snuggles, but Bongo loves to be cradled in your arms like a baby and spoiled.

As are all SparKy pets, Bongo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and is current on heartworm prevention.

On White Flag nights ONLY

• Homeless or unhoused with pets
o A volunteer has offered to house pets for homeless/unhoused residents seeking shelter during White Flag nights
o Pets will be kept in a cage with blankets on the floor
o Cages are in an insulated garage with the heat set at 60 degrees
o Evening meal and water supplied
o Hours are 8PM to 5AM
o Pick up (8PM) of pet will be at CrossRoads, St Ben’s, or Pitino shelter
o Return delivery (5:00 AM) of pet will be back to point of pick up
o If owner is not there to pick up pet, it will be taken to Daviess County Animal Care and Control

It may be raining outside, but it feels like sunshine at SparKy! Carol Ann Brady has been with us since September and we have loved her so much, but today she went to her forever home! When they walk out the door with their new family and are so happy they don’t even look back, that’s our happily ever after.

We started out 2024 with not such good news. Our washer had to be fixed and our dryer gave up on life. Huge thank you to Murphy Appliance Co. and an anonymous donor for the brand new commercial dryer. We are so lucky to be a part of such a caring community!

We’ve all seen the forecast for the coming days and now is the time to prepare. With single digit temps and negative wind chills, pets need to be protected. If you see animals neglected outside, please call animal control, the police, or the sheriff’s department. By law, SparKy cannot confiscate an animal or take in stray dogs directly. We are a private, nonprofit animal rescue without government funding or authority. Make sure you’re providing appropriate and dry shelter for pets and keep them properly fed and watered.

This is Melody. She’s a 10-week-old lab/boxer mix and one of a litter of eight surrendered to Daviess County Animal Care and Control. A shelter is no place for vulnerable little baby dogs, so they called us, and we couldn’t resist those faces.
As are all SparKy pets, Melody is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and is current on heartworm prevention. This little lady is also snuggly, sweet, and of course, has that amazing puppy breath!

How about we start the new year with a double dose of cuteness?

Janie (cream) and Zuzu (black) came to us from a neighboring shelter right before Christmas. They are nine week old terrier mixes and are as feisty as they are precious. They give great snuggles, but beware, terriers can be stubborn and sassy. They can, and probably should be, adopted separately because these girls are a hot mess together. URGENT NEED! Over the weekend we took in eight new kittens and we have a pregnant mama cat ready to pop any minute. We opened our last bag of Purina Kitten Chow today and are out of our wet Fancy Feast Kitten. We’ll take any flavor of the Fancy Feast, but to keep tummies happy we need the Purina Kitten Chow pictured. As we close out 2023, I just wanted to take a moment to tell our Facebook/instagram family thank you. I am always astounded at the growth this rescue has had from when we started approximately 20 years ago. However there is more that can be done in our community. Every day we are asked to take animals that we have to decline due to a variety of reasons. If you want to get involved in a rescue in this community, please reach out. We need volunteers, fosters, record keepers, transporters, etc. In 2024, we have several programs starting and fundraisers planned. Not to mention, Bark In Style will be back!!! If you have donated time, money, energy, items, thank you! If you have fostered, cleaned, transported, thank you! We are not done yet! Here’s to a new year and new successes. In true New Year’s fashion, we are starting it off with a bang!! A bang from our washing machine and it is no more. So we are on the hunt for a new one. If anyone has one they’d like to donate, our animals would surely appreciate it. (And so would the volunteer who is spending some of his time at the laundromat). Huge thank you to Mrs. Hodskins class at Country Heights Elementary. They had a fundraiser and donated $345.40 to SparKY as a result. What giving and caring kids. Michelle and Socks were there to accept the donation and say thank you for all their hard work!
