Some important updates!
One of our local animal shelters is currently dealing with a major upper respiratory ailment in the dogs that are in their shelter. With that knowledge their is an increase risk of dogs in the surrounding areas to also begin to have similar ailments as these things are usually airborne and can therefore transfer through the air.
At this time we do not have any known cases of dogs staying with us currently or recently that are showing any symptoms of these things. However, we usually find that when one local establishment has it others start to as well - so if that changes we always do our best to alert our upcoming customers.
Upper respiratory symptoms in dogs are much like us; they can be caused by things such as Bordetella, Canine Flu, and other illness that cause coughing, sneezing, nasal and eye discharge.
In order to continue to keep all of the animals staying with us as safe as possible, we will continue to be strict about our vaccination policies:
-We require Rabies, Distemper (DHLP, DA2P, etc.), Kennel Cough (aka Bordetella, Intatrac, Parainfluenza), and Canine Influenza (we require the Bivalent version which is H3N8 & H3N2).
- All vaccinations must be updated at least 2 weeks prior to all boarding and grooming check ins.
Please make sure your dogs meet that criteria! If you come to drop off and something is missing or not done far enough in advance we unfortunately must follow our policies and will have to turn you away. From discussions with local vets this is the best way to protect the dogs staying with us.
If your dog is displaying any of these symptoms please do not bring them to the kennel or any other communal place to try and prevent any possible spreading. If your dog does end up displaying symptoms after a stay/appointment with us; we always ask that you let us know, we can only protect them so much, but in order to protect we need to know of cases to alert incoming clients of the risk. Many times dogs are able to recover on their own from things like Kennel Cough - but there are times veterinary care is necessary. What is affecting the shelter seems to be a type that will require veterinary care as it is taking a lot of medical care and some are progressing to pneumonia.
If you are able to donate or help the local shelters in any way, please do so. The medical treatments that they are facing to try and help the dogs in their care can be astronomical and they are a donation based facility so they need all the help they can get. If you are not able to donate financially, consider fostering or adopting one of their dogs in need!
We also have more snow in the forecast for tomorrow - as always we will do our best to keep our driveway as clear and safe as possible. We have no control of Wards Chapel and sometimes they do not clear it for many hours.
We always advise if you are due to drop off or pick up your pets to give us a call to check on road conditions - we will not kick your dog out we understand these things change travel plans so anyone is welcome to stay or change their dates if needed.
We rather our customers stay safe and enjoy the snow then run into any issues!
