Canine Unifursity Dog Training

Anyone else have two pups that love to play but also love to escalate their play into a fight? 😬 This is super common amongst breeds with working traits. The off switch just isn’t naturally there, which is such an awesome trait in a working or sport dog, but can get scary during play time with each other. So, how do we let them play but keep them safe? ✨Management✨ WE become the off switch. Play is over when we say “off”, we give them a chance to relax, and then once released, they can play again 🥳

TACO 🌮 graduates from our 1 week Getting Started board & train program today! 🥳 Taco came for a head start in impulse control skills and we sure did that! He’s heading home with new skills and a solid start to training. Congrats Taco! 🎉

Clients often ask us how we make time for our own personal dogs, when we spend so much time with our board & train and boarding dogs. The answer: Intentionally. Caine, our working line GSD, is able to just hang out & relax during the day, but also requires some sort of work to properly fulfill him. Over the years we’ve done that via structured obedience training, tracking, bite work, and barn hunt practice & competitions. Niko is our couch potato. He’s 10 years old, and perfectly content to just chill but he loves a good adventure out in the wild, and used to love agility in his younger years. You can use these tools the same way with your own dogs at home. There’s likely a lot of down time for the dogs while you’re working, but what can you do after hours? A quick game of intentional fetch, a tracking, or obedience session are all awesome ways to slow down, engage, & make the most of the time with your dog.

TWINKLE graduates today from her 3 week advanced obedience board & train program! 🎉 This dog has been so much fun to work with and had a HUGE transformation. She previously struggled with coming when called, and how to communicate with dogs in her home without guarding spaces or people. Now she can do both of these things and so much more including alllll the advanced obedience commands, a great leash walk, and has been socialized in so many spaces out in public. Congratulations Twinkle girl! Can’t wait to reunite you with your family tonight! 🤗

Absolutely nothing better than a successful reintegration 😍🤩 Keeda & Arlo’s family sent both pups to us, as they had been previously fighting & could never relax and just be a family. So PUMPED about this video we had to post it & break it down for you all. This is a small clip of an update we sent to Hazel’s owner that we LOVED, and here’s why: 1. Jake moves Hazel from a down to a heel. 2. Random man pops out of nowhere. 3. Previous Hazel would have pulled to see him & jumped on her new friend. 4. NOW she looks at random man, then looks to Jake for what to do next. 5. She sees he still wants her in a nice leash walk & continues on 🙌 So proud of this dog. She reunites with her family after 3 weeks in our advanced program! 🎉

Just a 4 month old puppy who couldn’t hold a two foot “stay” a week ago, now casually holding “place” to learn how not to jump on guests, get into things she’s not supposed to, etc, etc 🤗 AND, she still has a week to go to help her proof this with distractions. Good job Ruby girl!

Jasmine is rounding out the last week of her off leash program swimmingly! She graduates this Friday & has come so far 🥹 From playing the ever frustrating touch & go, tag you’re it, recall game to first-time-every-time responses to cues. Check out this video of her off leash heel with 2 distraction dogs around! Letting these pups go is so bitter sweet. Each & every one becomes a dog of our own 🤍
