When Bruiser first arrived he really gave my arms a workout. He pulled really hard on the leash. He's learning how to walk with me instead of dragging me around.

A cautionary tale. (please feel free to share this so word gets out)

"Rescue groups" are not always reputable. A client of mine decided to get a pup from a Texas based rescue group. This group loads up a truck in Texas with puppies and transports them to MA. They meet adopters in a a parking lot and pass out puppies to several dozen adopters at a time. Two days after bringing the pup home the pup became gravely ill with bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. The pup had to be hospitalized in order to survive. He was infected with PARVO, giardia, roundworm, hookworm.

Parvo is a devastating disease. With no treatment fatality is 90%, ,in home care is 50% but with hospitalization it can be 10% fatality if addressed in the first 2 days. This woman spent $4000 to save this pup. When she contacted the rescue group their answer was, "he was fine when we gave him to you". Parvo is HIGHLY contagious. If you bring home a parvo pup you are advised not to bring another pup home for 2 yrs because the virus can live in the soil.

Here's the thing......If that one pup had Parvo then ALL the pups were exposed to it and guess what.... that truck is a rolling Parvo-mobile. That truck is going to go back to Texas, load up more pups , expose them to the virus , and distribute them to unsuspecting owners. So people who think they are getting a cute pup are instead getting a pup that is going to be deathly ill in a couple days. IF the pup survives it will cost you thousands of dollars.

It's honorable that people want to adopt these dogs from the South but please understand you are supporting an organization that likely making money off transporting sick dogs. They are likely taking free dogs , selling them for $400-800. AND sticking the adopters with a sick dog that will either die or cost you $3-5,000. If you want to save yourself heartache and or thousands of dollars please do not adopt a dog that arrives to you via a box truck in a parking lot. This is not the way to get a healthy puppy.
