By this point in life, I’m convinced each loss of a fur baby leaves a hole in one’s life. Then there is the loss of Hurley. I can truly say Hurley was one of a kind - the sweetest, most loyal, loving boy there was.

Hurley was born in February of 2009 and lived a long and joyful life. Hurley crossed the rainbow bridge on September 19th, 2024 leaving behind more friends and loved ones than you could count given he never, ever met a stranger and never forgot anyone he met.

Hurley had a welcoming spirit and the most gentle companionship. He was known to follow on his mom’s heels wherever she would go, even comforting her throughout her cancer recovery journey. Wherever mom was, Hurley was, and vice versa. Hurley will be missed beyond words and truly no words could do his life justice.

Hurley was preceded in death by fur cousin, Bailey, and leaves behind his fur brother, Buckles, and fur cousin, Nala. He also leaves behind brother, Randy, and sister, Jeanne, and his mom and dad, Suzanne and Andre and their granddaughters. Hurley also leaves behind his first mom, Mady, and all of her family.

While most heartbreaking and sad, there is yet hope, for we must remember that all dogs go to heaven. We will surely meet again.

His family and friends miss him every day.

Bubba Hurst, whose gentle behavior set him apart, was the exception to the rule for most Pits. When he encountered others, they complimented him how sweet and gentle he was around others. Bubba showed up on the doorstep in 2010 at 6 months old and became an immediate family member to his humans and cat siblings.

He immediately fit in with his new brother Blackie & was one of the family. When people would initially see him, they would be terrified because he was a pit bull --but they would always be amazed by how sweet, gentle natured & loving he was. He would never hurt another person or animal. He was around so many cats he eventually thought he was one 😂. He loved his morning walks in the park to people watch & in the fields to track deer. He also loved his daily car rides around town to check out the scenery. He loved sitting on the front porch & people watch. Bubba was loyal to the end. Bubba was very loved & will greatly missed. Our hearts & lives will never be the same.

Bubba crossed over the rainbow September 11, 2024.
Bubba leaves behind his Dad (Wes) and Grandmother (Becky).

Cooper Roberts, fearless and never afraid, was born July 21, 2007 and passed over the rainbow July 5, 2024. Cooper was never afraid of larger dogs—for to him he was their size. His favorite moments were riding in the car and eating ice cream! He was a momma’s boy- but was spoiled by his late Poppa and all that knew him.

Cooper is truly missed.

LuLu Little (September 9, 2009- July 15, 2024), was nicknamed “Sweetness”. LuLu was always smiling and never met a stranger! She had a knack for knowing when you needed love and support, as well as, giving hugs and kisses. She loved playing in water, playing catch with her sisters, and taking long walks. Her trips to the SPAW was always enjoyed- though it was often hard for her to sit still.
LuLu was preceded over the rainbow by her sister, Molly. She leaves behind her parents, Joel and Beth; and loving sisters Chancey and Farris.

Einstein, AKA “Big Dummy” was born in April, 2017, and passed over the rainbow July 12, 2024. Einstein was a 100lb bundle of Pyrenees pure joy. He came into the family by arriving on Sunday nights at the door for his steak supper. Anytime the truck was started, he was ready to go and take an adventure! In fact, the local Dollar General Employees would talk to him when his parents would go inside the store—because he was crying…..
He will be very missed—and there is no replacing him. Einstein leaves his mom and dad, John and Vivian Jordan; and sister, Tommi Llee Jordan.

Miss Ellie Turman, born September 2009, passed away on June 17, 2024.

Miss Ellie was given her name by her daddy. Ellie went to work with her daddy every day. She loved to ride with him in his truck, ride the side by side, and absolutely loved to swim! Since her daddy is a pilot, Ellie loved to fly with him. She was all about her daddy, but loved her mom too. Ellie was the most loving of all dogs we have had! And whatever vehicle she was in, she was very protective of said vehicle to the point she turned into Cujo!! She was our little brown dog, aka Boykin Spaniel, and we loved her so!!

She leaves her daddy, Randy; her mom, Teresa; and her canine siblings, Liza, Buster, and Rowdy.

Hunter, born November 2015, passed away at the age of 8 years old on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Hunter, along with his sister, Goldie, joined the family in May 2016 at 6 months old, from the Oxford Humane Society. “Hunter's nickname was "cheesie" because of his cheesie and funny personality. He always had a smile on his face and always brought a smile to ours.” He loved to play jokes. He would often steal a shoe or slipper when his family wasn't watching and move it to another room and then lay down away from it. They always knew it was him because his sister would never do those things. He would open the back door by getting on his hind legs and turning the k**b. He would often do this and let Goldie inside.
Hunter was truly a retriever and his favorite things to retrieve were pillows, shoes, slippers, socks and his favorite stuffed animal, George. In his younger years, he loved to chew on things, especially shoes. His family had to keep shoes away from him, but as he got older he loved to chew on bones and antlers. He also loved treats, peanut butter and chicken. He loved his daily walks and playing in the backyard with his sister, digging in the sandbox, and endless petting from anyone who would give him attention.
He wasn’t always brave, as he was afraid of storms, vacuum cleaners, and kids on motorized cars. During storms he loved to go to his "bunker" which was his mom’s closet. Hunter leaves behind his mom, Rebecca; dad, David; human brothers, Andrew and Benjamin; and his canine sister and litter mate, Goldie Sue. “Hunter was a unique and handsome boy with unique personality traits. There really was nobody like him. And everyone loved him. He will be very missed.”

She loved her family but especially kids. She protected them and other dogs knew not to enter her property. “She took her protection detail very serious.” Tillie leaves behind her mom, Mary; dad, JD; three brothers; one sister; nine nieces and nephews; and nine great nieces and nephews. She had become her dad’s daily companion since he was diagnosed with dementia. “Every move he made she made.”

Fat Cat, 16, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. When she and her two siblings were approximately 2-3 weeks old, they were left in a 5-gallon bucket under her parents' carport. All three were bottle fed until they could eat on their own. Fat Cat became the biggest of the three, which is how she got her name, and she was “always a big butterball”. As she got older, she loved morning head scratches and rubs, followed by scratching on her scratching post after her breakfast. She loved boxes, especially sleeping in them. She took care of her siblings by giving them their daily cleanings. She had a heart shaped patch of fur on her back left foot. Fat Cat leaves behind her father, Wes; and grandmother, Becky.

Cinnamon, 15, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024. She loved to lay in the sun, sleep, eat table food, find toads, chase birds, check out the garden, pull up and eat turnips. She would run from her dad when she had a turnip while her sister would run to their dad like she was tattling. Cinnamon had a short little nub tail and a deep bark, unlike her sister who sounded like a “smaller cute dog”. Cinnamon leaves behind her parents, Carmel and Barry; and sister, Emily. She was welcomed at the Rainbow Bridge by her sister, Spice. “She was a wonderful dog and companion as well as her sister was and they are loved and missed very much.”

Gary passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024. He was originally named WorkCat by the School of Education at the University of Mississippi, but was later renamed “Gary” by a graduate student, Nikki. He was the mascot for the School of Education. He became a source of comfort for college students, faculty and staff as they looked forward to petting him during breaks and feeding him treats. He provided stress relief during busy, hectic times on campus. He was very vocal and loved greeting people as they showed up for work each morning, following them to the front door knowing he would get fed. One year during football season, The School of Education created a t-shirt promoting Gary for the Heisman Trophy. Gary was greatly loved by his original caregiver, the Kappa Sigma house mom (Ms. Margaret), Dean Rock at the School of Education, SOE student Elle, and many, many other SOE faculty, staff and students. Gary also received great care from the University of Mississippi FURR group. “He was one of the most loving cats you will ever find! He touched the lives of hundreds of faculty, staff and students at the School of Education and even the entire university. He will be greatly missed each day!”

Buster, 15, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024. When he was younger, he loved playing with his family in the yard, going to the creek, taking long walks, and running to the neighbors’ yards and having his family chase after him. As he got older and his health declined, he loved sitting on the back porch or in the back yard watching over his land. He would alert his family with an angry bark if he saw someone walking or a vehicle he didn’t like. “Buster had a tremendous ability to love his family and was very protective of us.” What he absolutely loved the most was getting all of the attention and scratched behind his ears. Something that Buster was not a fan of…stairs! When he was 6 years old he decided to follow his siblings upstairs to their bedrooms. He enjoyed the adventure of roaming around upstairs but not the part of going back down the stairs. His dad had to pick him up and carry him down the stairs. Needless to say, that was the last time he ever went upstairs. Buster leaves behind his parents, Mo and Darla; and his human siblings, Drew, Kelly, Nathan, Janna Kate, and Ellie. “Buster would have been 16-years-old in June! He kept undesirable critters away from the house and loved being around any of his family members. He had a gentle nature and a playful disposition; even as a terminally ill and old dog, he would still frequently lift his head and hold his ears just like he did when he was a puppy, frequently giving us a curious look. We’re going to really miss him.”

“Edee, a first-generation Labradoodle, died on April 25 at the age of 17. Edee lived a long life as a best friend to her mom and dad. She was the last remaining of her dog sisters who included Georgia, Thelma, and Louise. Edee's gray and black coat dubbed her the name grandmadoodle. Most people thought she was wise beyond her years because of her coloring. When she was a young pup, she ate walls, doors, baseboards, bed sheets, covers, and anything that was left to her demise. She soon grew out of that and became the best companion around. She went on many runs with her mother and loved eggs. Edee will never be forgotten and never can be replaced.” Edee leaves behind her parents, Travis and Carroll.

Haley, aka Haley Jo, Hale Bop, 10 ½, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. She loved any kind of water. Whether it was swimming in the pool or ocean, chasing the sprinkler, or rolling in mud puddles. She and her family friend’s son would take turns jumping in the pool and getting out then doing it all over again. She loved people and that just gave her so much joy. They were both having a blast that day. As Haley got older the tips of her ears turned silver which stood out since she was all black, including her tongue. Haley leaves behind his mom, Jane; and fur brother, Beau. “In the last few years there have been storms to weather and Haley was always there for support. Haley will be missed.”

Dexter, 17, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024. He found his family after roaming the streets in their neighborhood as a puppy. His family loves Ole Miss and so he was named after Dexter McCluster. He loved to ride in the car, especially to Oxford, ride on the golf cart, and catch tennis balls off the roof. He was always following his family around and was ready to play at any minute. Dexter leaves behind his parents, Craig and Brenda; sisters, Lee Ellen, Olivia, and Carolyne; brother-in-law, Chase; and niece Eloise. He was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by his brother, Eli (named after Eli Manning).

Pete was born on January 8, 2018, and passed away at the age of 6 on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. He shared his birthday with the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis. He loved eating, cuddling, barking at the birds and squirrels, running around and jumping. He was stubborn and strong-willed, but well trained. He knew what he was doing the day he stole his sister’s phone all because she was ignoring him. He “cleared a hedge so adeptly that he appeared not to have any legs”. He was so graceful with his “rebellious leap”. Pete was also very loving as he helped to cover his fur sibling, as they laid him to rest, with dirt using his nose, face and paws. Pete leaves behind his human family, Amber, Coleen, Justin, Caeley, Lily, and Rick; his fur family, Georgie, Gizmo, Archie, and Ranger. He was welcomed at the Rainbow Bridge by Browning and Big Stuff. “He was the very best puppy, a soulmate in this life whom I Love with my whole heart.”

“Simba of House Lewis.
First of His Name.
Guardian of the Winter's Mantle and Seeker of the Snow's Secrets. Most noble of beasts whose heart was as full of love like no other. A friend to all souls, both great and small. With a spirit as bouncy as his favored ball, he roamed his domain with a joyous bound. A protector of the realm's newest and most fragile lives—ever watchful over baby chicks that came into the realm. A revered big brother to Zoey of Blessed Memory, Polly the Bold, Max the Brave, and Maisy of Gentle Heart. He reveled in the solace of his home’s grassy fields. He rolled with abandon under the watchful eye of the sun. The most avid of all nappers, he knew the value of rest. The call of adventure ever in his blood, he leaped with gusto into the pond's cool embrace. Even as the years marked him with silver and slowing, his spirit remained ever youthful, filled with a love for playtime with family. In stories that will told by the hearth's light, the legend of Simba—First of His Name, Beloved by House Lewis, Eternal Guardian of Joy and Innocence—will forever echo through the all ages. Simba leaves behind his mom, Tracy, his dad Brandon, and 4 other fur siblings. He will be missed beyond measure.”

“Max, 14, made his journey across the rainbow bridge Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in the loving arms of his mom. He, along with his fur sibling, Abby, joined the family in 2009. Max and Abby were inseparable and went everywhere together. Even though they each had their own bed and crate, they always ended up in the same one together. Max was a little guy but had a big attitude and wasn’t afraid to stand up to his much larger fur siblings. Max loved laying in the sun, cuddling in a blanket, bacon, cheese and especially french fries. Max always made us laugh when he would get a treat because he would tippy tap on his toes then take it and run as fast as he could to hide under the bed. Max leaves behind his mom, Leigh Ann, 3 human siblings, Devon, Denver and Dayton and 5 fur siblings, Phoebe, Trigger, River, Jasper and Beckham. Max will forever be missed but he has now been reunited with Abby, who he has missed terribly.”

Piper, 4, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024. In her short time, she battled epilepsy, leg amputation, and cancer, but she was a fighter who never let her battles get her down. She loved to play fetch, run, play ball, speak on command, belly rubs and back rubs. She could smell when her mom would open the peanut butter jar to make sandwiches. She would get so excited because she knew she would get to lick the knife. Piper leaves behind her parents, Glenn and Nichole; human sisters, Mary-Massey and Sarah-Kay; human brother, Gage; fur brother, Rebel; and fur sister, Callie. She was joined in heaven with her big fur sister, Pearl. “She was known for being obedient, friendly, and could comfort anyone with her beautiful eyes!”
