Happy last night of Chanukah to those who celebrate !

Christmas Miracles do happen!
Our patient Hans an 8 yr old Great Dane who was diagnosed in January with osteosarcoma in his distal radius - he has had palliative radiation and anti-sarcoma vaccine - but sadly his tumor was only in remission for a short time and then he developed a pathologic fracture at the tumor site.
Hans' mom did not think that he'd have a good quality of life on three legs & so we partnered with Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Leigh Glerum a Sage in Redwood City to do a "partial amputation" to remove the tumor but save enough of his limb to fit him with a custom Prosthetic!
It's been a rough path for his skin healing post-surgery but his mom and I never gave up on him!

And now he is running ane going on 2 hour walks again!
we are so proud of him and applaud his amazing mom Shaila Bahl for never giving up!

I just visited Espy our goat with two prosthetic hooves! She resides at Charlie’s Acres and I went to check on her orthotics! They are definitely ready for refurbishing! While I was there we discussed Espy’s head tilt has worsened a bit and she is having some focal facial seizures -
Sure enough her Atlas was “subluxated” which can be addressed with a Chiropractic Adjustment- so we shall see how that helps - keeping her cute head in straight and improving her neuro signs!

Walking into the weekend like a boss!

Primo the Akita does Cavalettis

Cavaletti work is great for strengthening a dog's hind limbs, forelimbs, and core balance muscles. It also helps improve body awareness (proprioception), lengthens gait, and helps with joint range of motion. Besides getting stronger, the dog learns to use all four of his legs in an efficient and more coordinated manner. This exercise is great for older dogs who may scuffle or drag their paws when they walk. Watch Primo the Akita navigate our Cavaletti set in slow motion!!!

Ani the Golden Retriever in the underwater treadmill

Ani the Golden Retreiver was adopted from Taiwan when she was 6, and she has always had difficulty with prolonged exercise. She has bilateral hip dysplasia and chronic myofascial pain. She comes to AWAP for PiezoWave shockwave therapy, underwater treadmill, assisted swimming, and acupuncture. Her family is TIRELESS in supporting her at home with the recommended treatment plan- therapeutic home exercises, Adequan injections, pain relieving supplements, E-Stim, and an Assisi loop for pain. They've followed our weight loss plan and assist her mobility with a Help Em Up Harness. We love watching her fur in the treadmill. It reminds us of the sea nettles at the Monterey Aquarium. :)
