Welcome Asha and Styx! Asha (8 year old paint mare) and Styx (12 year old sorrel mare) came to the poodle farm last week after being surrendered to local animal control. Their owner had passed and the family trying to care for them could not.

The mares are busy putting weight on and getting to know their new herd members. We're so very excited to welcome Asha and Styx, our first new horses in 4 years.

Every day our caregivers working in the barn do a post shift. Here is today's run down. Welcome to our barn work.

Barn shift - 9/2/24

Did some ground work with Reba and Dancer.

Reba did some lunging in the round pen so we can start getting some of these guys into shape! Did a couple minutes walk, then a couple min jog, working our way up to more time with each gait. Worked on manners like moving away and giving space when asked, shes a very smart girl and capable of a lot.

Dancer is another story, we all know she's pretty green all around. With her, I'm trying to TEACH her how to lunge. She's learning what different movements with a lead rope means. My big note with her that she's learning today is when I stop walking, we both do, so we can avoid any stepped on feet. Shes not quite fully getting it yet but I can see the gears turning and she's eager to please.

I stretched both Reba's and Dancer's legs out and got some nice contented sighs out of them both.

Everyone was fed, pigs fed and cats fed as well. I rearranged the feed room to get to a corner or two to sweep and I quite like the outcome. if anyone doesn't like the setup, feel free to rearrange it again! Im going to deep clean the room tomorrow and get any crumbs and cobwebs out.
