As the years have gone by, things have changed here at 2 Cute Westies. In the past couple of years we have had to retire some of our Sweet Mamas due to their age (we retire at 6 years old). So, currently we have fives girls:
Edie, Aggie, Pepper, Millie and Fifer (Millie and Fifer are still young, but may be bred later this year) and our boy, Phineas. After much research on the breed, we started t

his venture because of our love for them. Our dogs all live in our home and are very much a part of our family. Their puppies are born in one of our "converted" bedrooms and socialized and loved by us, our kids and grandkids. If you are looking for a quality Westie to be a part of your family, look no further. Breeding is not for the faint of heart. I've said this more than one time, but today it rings more true than ever.
Millie blessed us with 5 precious puppies on June 19th. All came into the world relatively easily and with no obvious problems...all latched on quickly and began life.
We noticed within 24 hours that her smallest of 4.3 oz. was losing weight and also noticed that her siblings were pushing her around. Ultimately we made the decision to bottle feed to get her on track. Well, she totally enjoyed not having to work for her food, so we fed her every two hours round the clock.
We had a puppy born with a clef palate a couple of years ago - who is doing very well today - and wanted to make sure we weren't dealing with anything like that so at 5 days old took her to our vet. She was checked over and had a good strong heart and lungs....no apparent issues.
Early this week she developed a stuffy nose and it was difficult for her to eat/breath so after a long night trying to help her, got her back into our vet to have her checked out, again. It was determined that she had an upper respiratory infection and was prescribed an antibiotic.
That seemed like a wonder drug and she cleared up within the first 24 hours and continued eating - she never stopped eating! Last night she got really stuffy again but we thought that it was just because it was evening and that's what happens.
We take turns getting up with her at night; I did the 11pm, Paul did the 1am and I was to do the 3am. When it was my turn at 3am she had just taken her last breath.
In our 13+ years of breeding we've never experienced this kind of loss. We have had a few stillbirths, but haven't had an older newborn pass. She was gaining and seemed to be doing so well, but there was something else going on that none of us could detect. Yes, it's "just an animal," but so much more to us. We did everything we could for her, but God's plans are not always ours. We don't understand, but trust Him to know what's best all the way around - even for our animals.
Please know that her littermates and doing GREAT and easily twice the size that she was.
The pictures that were posted yesterday have been taken down but we will take pictures of her littermates (who took turns cuddling with her) and repost in the next few days.
Thank you for keeping us in your prayers as we work through this. As we grieve this loss, we are grateful for the time we had to bond with her. Breeding is not for the faint of heart....but we wouldn't trade it because of all the blessings.

In June of 2012 2 Cute Westies was blessed with the addition of sweet little Jazi. When she was old enough she became one of our wonderful mamas and had many beautiful puppies. As will all things, her time as a mama came to an end and she was adopted by an amazing couple who have made her very much a part of their family....actually, knowing Jazi, she has probably taken over her "Retirement Home!" Thank you Bob & Patty for loving her so much AND keeping in touch with me.

This is the first time Greta's puppies have been outside their box. I think they liked it!

These puppies are now 7 weeks old....almost ready to go to their forever homes. I'm thankful that the two litters are a week apart so that I can "release" them more gradually!

Thought I would give my families an update....All are doing GREAT <3 This is Jazi and her sweet litter (6/22/18)

And here's an update on Edie and her adorable babes <3

Friday the 22nd was a busy day with Jazi's 4 sweet babes, and Friday the 29th was just as busy! Edie had her babes.....3 adorable little boys and 2 sweet little girls. Please forgive Edie's current appearance, I haven't had the heart to give her a bath just yet. She's such a good mama!! All are doing well and I will start contacting my potential families this week. Enjoy!!! <3 <3 My Westie Babes <3

Greta's milk supply is limited (probably because her puppies (3 weeks old) are rather "piggish"!) so I introduced them to ground up puppy food yesterday for the first time......this shows how quickly they caught on....and the MESS they love to make. Notice little "Kylo" who is very lovey and has to chew on my knee! I LOVE My Hobby!!!! <3 AND My Westies <3 (lots and lots of work - but blessed)

......And tonight's video.....one of my 6 week old Westies is learning how to "fetch!" This was their first night out of the kennel - we're trying to get them used to different surroundings as they are going to their forever homes next weekend - doesn't seem possible!!! Yes....we have too much fun watching and playing with these sweet little ones! Notice in the background (behind the white gate) is dad Levi watching intently. <3 My Westies <3

Well, these sweet little ones are 4 weeks old today and really getting into the "rough and tumble" stage! We are having so much fun with them. Little Mitch is still looking for his forever home. <3 My Sweet Little Westies <3

My Westie puppies born 6-5-16. They will be three weeks old tomorrow and are really getting more active. The one little boy who is sleeping was just taking his turn at napping. They take turns being very busy and then crashing. They are just like human babies in that they need lots of sleep at this stage of their life. I moved them to their crate today and they are already checking out their new area!!! <3 My Westies <3

Families - yet another "home" video. Please forgive the beginning....focus was way off...but my subjects are not always the most cooperative. They are now almost 4.5 weeks - can't believe how fast it's going. They are more fun than ever...this really doesn't do their "fun" justice, but will give you a taste. <3 My Westies <3
