This sweet and s***ky senior gal has a heart full of love and a personality that shines! 💖 Once found wandering the streets of Chicago, Bernice has blossomed into the most loyal and affectionate companion in her loving foster home.

🐾 Bernice is always up for a good stroll to sniff the neighborhood or keep an eye out for sneaky squirrels. When the outdoor fun is done, she’s happiest curling up at your feet or snoozing peacefully in her cozy bed.

✨ Bernice is house-trained, polite, and perfectly content hanging with her foster siblings. She doesn’t need a crate and is always respectful of her space. She loves sunshine, belly rubs, and treats!

FOSTER NEEDED FOR ZUKO!

Sweet Zuko has been returned to Second City and is searching for a loving foster home. He’s a 3-year-old Aussie mix with a big personality and even bigger energy!

Zuko thrives on playtime, especially fetch and tug, and enjoys long walks. He’s dog-friendly with slow, proper introductions (he’s been to dog parks and daycare), but can be reactive at times, so patience and experience are key.

He warms up faster to women and would do best in an adult-only home, ideally with someone familiar with herding breeds. He’s potty trained, doesn’t need to be crated when left alone, and would love a foster with a solid daily routine.

Zuko needs someone who can give him space to adjust and help manage introductions to new people, especially in the home.

This sassy sweetheart has a whole lot of heart and just the right amount of s***k to keep life fun.

Brink is house-trained and absolutely loves to cuddle—she’ll happily melt into your lap the moment you sit down. She’s a ball-chasing, backyard-dashing, belly-rub-loving pup who’s always up for playtime. She’s generally quiet, only barking at the usual things like someone at the door, and she’s been doing great on a regular potty schedule with no accidents!

She’s still working on her leash manners—she gets a little excited when she sees other dogs—but she’s not bothered by birds or squirrels. Her focus is all on fun and bonding with her people.

Vera is a sweet senior Chihuahua with a heart full of love and a nose for cozy blankets. Her favorite pastime? Snuggling close and soaking up all the affection she can get. This little lady is fully house-trained, rarely barks, and doesn’t need a crate—she’s perfectly well-behaved when left alone.

Vera is easygoing and adaptable—whether you’re heading out for a walk, relaxing in the yard, or having a Netflix marathon on the couch, she’s happy to be by your side. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and even cats, and while she hasn’t met young kids yet, her gentle nature suggests she’d be just fine with them.

She knows how to sit, offers a polite little paw, and walks beautifully on a leash.

Fun Summer Games to Play with Your Pup!

With summer’s arrival, the days are longer, which means more daylight to get outside and play with your pup! As long as the weather isn’t too hot, there are plenty of fun enrichment activities to do with your dog this season.

Our wonderful marketing volunteer, Victoria Whiting, shares summer games to play outside both for exercise and mental stimulation:

Outdoor Treat Hide and Seek: Hide treats, toys or small pieces of food around your yard or another small area for your dog to explore. Guide them and reward their finds with positive reinforcement.

Agility Course: Create a simple agility course outside for your pup! Grab some cardboard boxes, hula hoops, small cones, PVC pipes or pool noodles, old blankets/towels, or whatever else you can find in your home or garage. Keeping in mind what’s safe for your dog’s size, set up different activities such as weaving, jumping, tunneling and crawling. Use treats or toys to guide your dog through.

Frozen Treats: Freeze treats inside ice cubes or ice blocks and let your pup dig and lick their way to the prize.

Frisbee Catch: Get some fun and healthy exercise with a classic game of frisbee! Play this outdoor fetch game in your backyard, picnic, park or at the beach. There are many frisbee sizes and types available, so pick one that’s right for your furry friend.

Water Playtime: Let your pup splash about! Fill a kiddie pool with water and floating toys. Or set up a sprinkler or kiddie splash pad for your pup to chase the water to cool off.

Stay safe! Avoid peak heat during the middle of the day and make sure your dog always has water available. Watch for signs of overheating like excessive panting, drooling or sluggishness. Take regular breaks inside or where it’s cool.
