Life with a Golden Retriever:
1. You'll never use the bathroom alone again. If you try to shut them out they'll cry to come in. If you let them in before they'll take it as a perfect chance to get attention. ALWAYS.
2. You'll never shower alone again. If they don't get in with you they'll have their head in watching your every move. And when you're done they'll help you by cleaning every spot you might have missed. Enthusiastically.
3. You might call it bedtime, they call it shoe gathering time. Don't think the sliding door to the closet is enough to keep them from doing their job. If you get a good one they just gather. Some prefer to alter your shoes.
4. They'll help you clean your yard by finding every tiny stick you might have missed. And if you didn't miss any, they'll somehow magically create them out of thin air.
5. EVERYTHING goes in their mouth. This means exposed feet at night. This means your hand if you're trying to read. It also means anything you might accidentally drop.
6. Their coats are beautiful, and they like to share it. A LOT. EVERYWHERE.
7. You've heard of playing possum? Now let's talk about playing Golden. They melt into the surface of wherever you are. On a walk and they're done? You'll either carry them home or stand there staring at them until they decide to move. Trying to leave the park? Nah, let's play Golden. Outside and you want them to come in... yep... playing Golden. Flat on the ground, and usually looking at you like "yea, I don't think so".
8. Food is to be shared. Enjoying that pizza? Those brown eyes will chide you for not being a decent hooman and sharing. Cookies? Yea, cookies are for Goldens. Any food you can think of, a Golden is sure it is meant for them. Something you're sure they'll find gross? Nah, they'll eat it just because you are.
9. Taking them out in public with you? Plan on at least double the time. Public means people. People mean petting. And nobody can resist petting the beautiful Golden. Ever.
10. You'll never have another living, breathing creature look at you like a Golden does. You're their whole world, and they have no problem letting you know it.

The Pros And Cons of owning a Golden

I have always loved every golden I have but there are definitely things someone considering needs to know to make sure they are right for them.

1. They are the most lovable and loyal dogs you will ever know and they will cuddle and love you on your best and worst days...they don’t care about your flaws one bit.

2. Oh the hair!!!

3. They will learn quickly and try to please you.

4. Part of that pleasing means bringing you a shoe that they proudly chewed up. No they do not know the difference between Louis Vuitton or Keds. And they will be confused when you scold them. 😬😬

5. They are lovers

6. They forget everything you’ve taught them around 7-8 months and will test you in ways you never thought possible.

7. They give you that look that makes everything forgivable. So you will forgive them when they chewed up your cell phone or grabbed the steak off of the counter because you just don’t have any other choice. 🤣

8. You will spend more money on replacing things they’ve chewed up in the early years than what you paid for the dog or if you rescued...trust me it doesn’t come without a price tag!!🤣🤣

9. They love to be a part of the family and they will go anywhere with you and are happy to be by your side.

10. You will take them places to wear them out so they can rest peacefully and happily and you can finally pet that soft fur.

11. Did I mention the hair?!?! Good bye black leggings!! Or you can be like me and just not care that your leggings have a golden fur design to them🤣

12. They will be your best friend...the only thing you have to do is love them. Oh and feed them.

14. The first year is the most trying and although smart tend to have ADHD and the squirrel trumps the come command most of the first year. But it does get better and if you stay consistent, you will end up with a very well behaved loyal perfect best friend who will show you endless unconditional love. ❤️❤️🐾🐾

15. Oh did I mention the hair!!!??? Get a good vacuum or make a scarf or something. But some how or another, they will end up stealing your hearts so much that you will long for the days of shedding when they’re gone. ❤️

But seriously in all honesty, Goldens can be the best dogs but they require a lot of attention, exercise, consistency, but mostly love and understanding. And in the end, no matter what they put you through, you will forget it all and hold with you that image of the perfect dog it really was. ❤️🐾
