We are a nonprofit animal rescue organization that finds animals that have been given up on or considered hopeless and unadoptable by other rescue organizations. Our aim is not to adopt our lots of highly adoptable animals as quckly as possible. Most of the animals at Fly Away Home have come from nightmarish circumstances. They have been abandoned, neglected, or severely abused. They are provided

with extensive medical and behavioral rehabilitation. Thus far, every animal that has found us, has also found a wonderful home after graduating. Every one of them has gone on to become loving family members and loyal companions. They are a testament to the enduring spirit and undying goodness of animals. We've never, ever had so many requests from families that are surrendering their beloved family members🥲Sometimes they've raised them since puppyhood, some are seniors at the twilight of their lives being abandoned by the only home & family they've ever known💔

The farse is always almost the same: "We're making a huge sacrifice because we love them so much & want them to be with someone that has more time, energy, money &/or love to give then we do. It's for them, not us"🤞

We're at a loss for words. We're devastated for these helpless animals😩We just need to say, if they think they're actually doing it for the animal's sake, please think again😡

Happy, playful, healthy, loves kids & grown up humans, a great sport with other pups, loving life, much younger than he looked when surrendered to the shelter, possibly a candidate for eye surgery but if not he's adapted so well that it's hard to believe he can't see much. Also maybe a little chunky. Very adoptable to a compassionate family🥰

Happy Update 4PM June 10🥰

Mama Bunny has been transferred to the AHS much smaller, much more intimate facility in Tinton Falls! She'll be well cared for & closely monitored because it's a small place where staff & volunteers can closely watch & bond with each animal, so she'll get lots of love, care & attention♥️ She can still go home with a very committed, experienced foster if one becomes available.

Poor sweet Mama Bunny is about to give birth in the Newark Shelter any day now (any minute now) & while this might have been a happy occasion, it's filled with anxiety & dread🥲

A small cage in a huge, loud, hot, overcrowded, germ filled shelter is not a happy space for a birth to take place, for so many reasons. Its not conducive to a comfortable, healthy, safe delivery. So sad for mama & for her helpless babies💔

We're begging for a foster or another rescue to step up & turn this into a safe & happy experience, & come to the rescue of this family to be🙏🏼♥️

Nice day for a dip⛱️🏝️☀️

Our rescued Newark Shelter pups like their adoptive families to have pools in their yards, unless of course they spend weekends at the beach🌻☀️

Rescued is the best breed, & our animals deserve the very best of everything🧡☀️

It's really important to us to stay in touch with our adoptuve families because our animals will always be part of our family. Our alumni Jaxson enjoying a typical summer day with his family, being a very diligent lifeguard🛟

Sweet Baby Ace's life is literally hanging by a thread🥲After a spinal tap, brain MRI & other extensive testing, our pup's diagnosis is autoimmune menningitis, which is rare in a large dog & especially a puppy. It's not a very promising diagnosis, but just look at our sweet boy's face. The spinal decline is moving quickly, he's losing bladder control & complete use of his hind legs,so we had to make a huge decision this morning, which is so difficult so we took our cues from our pup. As the doctor put it "this is a Hail Mary, we go big or go home, no waiting, no in between, no lesser option."

The cost is already outrageous, but what could we do? Another week in the hospital on chemotherapy & strong immunosuppressant drugs, then pray🙏🏼

Can you please help us save this beautiful, gentle 7 month old puppy?

Maurice is the needy type, he needs to be laying on top of you or snuggling right up against you🥰

Maurice had some bumps in the road (actually more than bumps, kind of huge potholes) but we promised to make it up to him.

Baby Ace was not loving his 1 1/2 hour medical evaluation, but through it all he was the best boy♥️

Even though he quietly attempted escape when he thought nobody was looking🥹. Finally he gave up & figured he was better off just going with the flow, as long as the cookies kept coming. Wow, a highly food motivated pup makes life much easier for all involved♥️🐾

Ace is a gorgeous big pup at only 7 months old & still growing, & such a sweetie pie🥰 He had an extensive medical workup today, every part of him was thoroughly assessed to begin to put the puzzle pieces together as to why he suddenly lost the use of his hind legs. Next step is Neuro including spinal tap & MRI. Lots of stuff for a sweet baby boy to endure, but we couldn't ask for a more gentle, good natured puppy🐾💛

We have a most beautiful story to tell🩷🌸

About 2 amazing families their 3 gorgeous pups, a kittie & their lovely, animal savvy children💞

Once a very devoted family & their 2 pups became homeless & they had potential temporary housing but not with their pups🥲
Refusing to abandon their devoted family members they lived in their car with their dogs desperately trying to find a safe place to take in tnese 2 well mannered, well cared for animals🙏🏼

"There but for the grace of God go I". . .

We'll skip their desperate, futile search for this nearly impossible task in current times. That in itself is a heartbreaking story.

As miracles sometimes do occur, they found a miracle in the form of an incredible family with 2 quite large, gentle, gorgeous pups, a sweet dog friendly kitty (& awesome, well raised children in extended family)🌷💞🩷🌸

& With the angels watching over both families, this is how our story moves along. Don't be fooled, it takes extraordinary commitment & patience to make wonders like this happen😇

There's more good parts of this story🥰
The first family found a place to stay, no pets allowed (ugh!) But these 2 wonderful families got together & decided that Anya's life would be enriched with ongoing visits with the family that raised her😘

Truly, there are heroes among us 🩷🌸🐾

Remember the homeless family living in their car with their pups & only having one more day to find a place for them? They desperately drove around in their car from one shelter to another but everyone was full. They had 2 pups, a Maltese & a pittie. Guess what? A family member took the Maltese & we took Anya, our beautiful pittie girl🩷

And her previous family has visiting privileges🩷🐾

Cause Taco was almost one of the many put down
But shelter life is random, & his fate turned around

♥️"My Sweet Baby Boy Ace needs help"!🙏🏼

Please help us to help this pup♥️🐾

One day 7 month old gentle, loving Ace who was adopted by his family @ 6 wks old was a happy, healthy pup. The next day he was unable to walk🥲

His family is the only home he has ever known. They exhausted their resources bringing their baby boy to an emergency hospital, their regular vet, & a specialty hospital, & still have no answers💔Diagnoses & treatment require further expensive & extensive testing (eg MRI, spinal tap etc).

This pup's family loves him. When they reached out to us we questioned if they had help covering medical costs would they be able to keep him but sadly another family member is experiencing a medical crisis. Also when an animal is experiencing severe medical decline In addition to being a finamcial burden, it's physically & emotionally all encompassing & exhausting. The family was blindsided by their healthy puppy Ace's sudden medical decline & was in need of rehoming their pup, so Ace is now our puppy, in a truly loving, experienced foster home, set up with a general medical eval, & neurology consult♥️🐾

How & why is this amazingly incredible pup getting repeatedly screwed over by humans & people aren't lining up to adopt him? 😢💔

What else can poor, sweet Gepetto do to find a loving forever family that cherishes him & sees what a special boy he is? He's gentle, easygoing, well mannered, respectful with other animals & children, good natured & approachabke with anyone that cares to say hello to him, responsive to kindness & a pleasure to walk & on & on. What else could a human possibly ask of a canine companion?

We know there is a very special, truly incredible human out there that was meant for Gepetto, because we believe in the power of hope🙏🏼We know kindness still exists in this world, & a very kind person will find Gepetto♥️

Geee Whizz, Whaddya know sweet Soopy Dog's
up the creek without a bone (or a foster home)🦴😳

C,mon humans, this should be an easy foster!
Crate rest for 8 weeks, no lifting involved
And Snoopy really really coud use a friend♥️🐾
Sure as the sun rises east & sets west
In rescue, you just can't place any bets.
The best laid foster plans set in stone,
Can end up leaving a poor dog alone!

So. . .

Whaddya know, Snoopy still needs a foster home🙄

So here's a new one for us rescuers:

This is sweet, handsome, gentle, (& all amazing canine qualities)senior pup somehow despite being a loyal, well mannered, easygoing family member for 9 (yep NINE) years finds himself DUMPED (sorry not being nice on this one, dumped is the correct verb) at the huge, overcapacity, way overcrowded, loud, (& all other heartwrenching qualities) at the shelter.

Gepetto is such a wonderful catch he was actually adopted! Yay senior pittie at the shelter adopted, how amazing is that?😀

WRONG🥵 Gepetto is returned because (pick any inane reason). . .

BUT the adopters change their minds after however long, return to the shelter to ask to re-adopt Gepetto, & they are approved, YAY🤞

Not so fast!!! 🏇🏁

Guess how this story ends😢Guess where poor, sweet Gepetto is now. . . That's right! Live & learn, once a dumper always a dumper💔

We need a pure of heart, true to their word type human to foster Gepetto & try to make up for what the other types of humans did to him💛🐾

Tne best day at the hospital is "going home day"♥️🐾 & for Snoopy Dog this day begins the journey to his new life. . .

Hit by car, abandoned by family, 2 major surgeries & a long hospital stay & Snoopy is the happiest pup on earth right now💛♥️

Many thanks to his amazing team at Eclipse Specialty Vet Hospital, his extended family of supporters, Kiera for visiting him every day & telling him what an amazing life he has ahead of him, & as always to Kathy for being there when she's needed most & bringing Snoopy home to oversee his recovery with love & kisses🥰

We're so happy that beautiful Elsa who is up for adoption through AHS Newark stopped by with her foster mom to visit us at our booth at this lovely event this weekend♥️🐾She's a special pup that will make her family proud, she's gentle, good natured, well mannered & a sweet social butterfly🌹💐🌺

Also brightening up our day was the very thoughtful & gracious donation we received from Brownie Troop 98226 that worked hard all day at their lemonade stand🥰

First night out of the shelter is the soundest, most peaceful, most contented sleep in the world💤😴

We need to help this sweet, gentle pup💔🙏🏼

URGENT🆘 Owner surrender due to not being able to afford medical care💔 This gentle, sweet pup won't survive in a crowded, loud, overwhelmed shelter with over 400 needy animals all waiting for homes & medical care 🥲 He's helpless & in pain. If we don't have a foster, we're helpless also♥️🙏🏼

Ok well this video is from yesterdays visit cause we weren't able to make it to hospital to visit today & we didn't want to miss sharing the happy update we just received💖💞AND we have been assured that our gentle, precious little puppy is being loved & doted on by her medical team. Apparently she's so sweet, & cuddly that she brings out the hugs in others😘 The exciting part however is that FINALLY that tube has been removed & she's eating all in her own ( if you could call bowls of slurry eating) & digesting like a champ! On to bigger & better things tomorrow, like food she can actually chew ( maybe) She's gonna take the world by storm, our beautiful baby girl💝

Seniors abandoned in shelters are a travesty💔 They just lost their whole world, the only life they knew, & the humans they devoted their entire lives to. It's far worse than desth for these innocent, helpless, loving animals. Their lives are torn away from them in the most painful way. When we can come to their rescue & show them they are worthy of love, that their real & true family is still waiting with open arms for them, then we give them a new life worth living❤️💛 Thank you fospice mom Natalie & beautiful family for doing that for our sweet, gentle Klaus🌻 As you can see he's right at home so move on over cause, "Klaus is in the house!" 🎵🎼🎶💛

Yesterday 12 year old puppy Walter had one day left to be alive. This is Walter today getting ready to come "home" with Fly Away Home Rescue NJ. Kudos to his family who loved him enough to reach out tirelessly for help to avoid their heartbreaking reality. We admire them for being willing to suffer the heartbreak of letting their beloved pup pass on peacefully in their arms with the family that he loved, if a rescue could not be secured. They had until tomorrow & had scheduled the euthanasia just in case, so Walter wouldn't have to suffer the terrifying ordeal of being left by the only family he had for his entire life, in a frightening city shelter. A shelter is a place of suffering. The one & only reason an animal should enter a shelter at the hands ot their family if they're desperate is to give their beloved companion a shot at a new life with the hopes & prayers of being adopted. In the best of circumstances that's a long shot, but if there's a chance for that to happen we understand taking it. In the case of a senior pittie (even a sweet one) it means months of loneliness & despair with the final outcome being euthanasia to finally relieve them from suffering. We salute Wslter's family tor loving him so much that they refused to let that happen to their boy And we welcome Walter with wide open arms & loving hearts to our rescue❤️

Little Miss Daisy May post surgery with rods and pins holding her severely shattered pelvis together, lungs still very bruised, just happy to be alive & in a safe, comfy, loving foster home❤️ Animals are so incredible. I guess that's why we love them so much & keep fighting so hard for them!

You'll never guess who this happy, beautiful pup that's prancing around, feeling the beauty all around her & loving life is!❤️ And you all thought this was just another humdrum Wednesday in rescue❤️🐾

Okay so this impromptu video isn't exactly a polished work of art, but nonetheless for a pup that's waited over 2 years in a small kennel, in a huge shelter it's a beautiful sight to behold 💕💜 We're shooting for springing Quinnie on May 1! Please keep sending those positive vibes, We know she's feelin the love💗🐾

One of many of the miracles we’ve witnessed❤️ Pretzel finally became strong & healthy enough (thanks to her amazing, dedicated, never give up foster parents Tricia & Alex), to have her first surgery which was the removal of the most deformed leg that was not correctable & pulling her body into a contorted position. She almost immediately began standing upright! Her next surgery in about a month will repair & strengthen her remaining hind leg so that she will be outrunning the squirrels. From disabled to unstoppable💛🐾

Our rescue just suffered a heartbreaking loss💔 So devastating to surrender to fate & realize all that’s left for us to do is hold on tight & let Robbie know we’ll always love him & he’ll always be with us in our hearts. And assure him he can go peacefully & we’ll be okay. As heartbroken as we are, we wouldn’t trade the time we were given to spend with our very special boy for anything. To gain the love and trust of an animal that has been beaten down & broken by life is the most beautiful blessing we could ask for as a rescue. And Robbie could not have been more blessed than to have two beautiful humans to love & cherish him for just exactly who he was❤️

Maurice is thankful to be alive❤️ Not too long ago he was lying lifeless, sick, mostly immobile & despondent in a small kennel hidden at the farthest dark corner of the lonely place where he had resigned himself to die, his face turned toward the wall. Our rescue is thankful for the love & passion of the unstoppable warriors that fight with us every day: the army of fosters, volunteers, friends & supporters that stand strong to overcome unbeatable odds. So that many more animals have a beautiful life to be thankful for 💛

🎼You’re only dancin’on this earth for a short while Will you carry the words of love with you❤️ Though you want to last forever, you know you never will. . . And the goodbye makes the journey harder still🎶🎵
