Did you know that pet grooming is a completely unregulated industry? There is no requirement for formal education, no required continuing education, and no required testing or certification?

Anyone and everyone can just pick up a pair of clippers and start advertising themselves as a groomer and charge people for a service they aren’t trained to perform.

It’s completely up to you, the owner, to do your research and make sure the person you are trusting with the health and safety of your pet is qualified to care for them.

Every groomer should be trained, and that very basic training takes months.

It takes years to truly master the ins and outs of grooming and everything that goes along with it.

Pet grooming is so much more than just a hair style.

*It’s knowing dog behavior and how to safely handle all the different personalities and quirks.

*It’s recognizing health conditions that would be better suited seeing a vet such as skin or ear infections.

*It’s being prepared for any and all emergencies that can happen, from seizures to allergic reactions, to nicks and cuts and quicked toenails without panicking.

*It’s knowing how to best deal with a variety of coat types properly.

*It’s being able to know when to stop a service on a particular dog due to behavior or health.

*It’s having the knowledge and patience to handle a different species while holding razor sharp clippers or 8 inch long scissors.

At the very least, the groomer you use should seek out continuing education to make sure they are current on the changes in the industry, from upgrades in products to tools that make the process easier for the pet and them.

They should be current on their pet cpr/first aid certification which needs repeated every couple of years.

They should be able to answer your grooming related questions with knowledge and confidence and if they don’t know the answer they should know where to find it.

They should have an emergency plan in place with a local veterinarian in case anything happens, because when working with animals it’s not a matter of if something happens, but when.

They should come recommended by other pet owners and pet professionals.

And it’s worth noting that there is nothing wrong with using a groomer that is still in training, but they should be working alongside an experienced groomer and under their direct supervision.

Ask the questions, after all you are paying them for a service. A groomer who has spent time and money to be as educated as possible is excited to share their knowledge!

❤️‍🩹 Chancho update: day 9 in the doggy ICU

Thank you to everyone who has continued to follow his story, donate for his care, pray for him, and support him in this journey. We are blown away by the amazing support from everyone. Our sweet boy is getting stronger every day but still has some obstacles ahead of him which means continued hospitalization resulting in more expenses.

His temp trach was closed early Sunday and officially sutured once they made sure he was tolerating it with no respiratory distress. He has slowly began eating chicken and canned food on his own, but still having difficulties drinking water due to the tongue injuries. He does have to be hand fed at this time. He will keep his nasogastric (ng) tube in place (to make sure he gets his water) until he can tolerate drinking on his own. They have created a magic mouthwash to help coat the tongue and make it feel better for him due to the punctures. As soon as he can be advanced to eating and drinking on his own, the ng tube can be removed and he will be discharged. He is still receiving physical therapy but very little assistance is needed now as our strong boy is getting up and walking short distances on his own! He is still wobbly but a little stronger every day now. They have removed his urinary catheter so he is now on his own with control of his bladder and bowels.

The next biggest event we are planning for is his CT scan. We will need to raise funds to cover this so we can see the extent of damage if any residual from the traumatic injuries to his head have caused any permanent brain injuries. ❤️ We are

And as always, a thank you goes to his wonderful medical team as well at Pet Emergency & Referral Center.

I absolutely LOVE when puppies are so comfy with me that they just nap. He also had a day at doggie daycare prior to his spa appointment. 🤣 Ollie is a 4 month old Portuguese Water Dog and he is ADOOORABLE! These photos are from his second appointment with me and we did a bathing package. He did so well at his first appointment that I was able to complete a tidy package 😍 One more tidy package and he can graduate to a full groom! I’m so excited to see this boy grow and learn!

Casey received his very first haircut the other day! 😍 I have been working him up to a full groom by visiting him every 2 weeks. He was not thrilled to start 🤣 We started with a bathing package then graduated him to a tidy package once he was comfortable. His first haircut went perfectly because we let him go at his own pace, started him young, and took the time to train him to build his confidence and trust with me 😍 Casey you are absolutely adorable and I am so proud of your progress! 🐶❤️

This is absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking! May karma find you and serve you the penalties you deserve 🤬🤬🤬🤬 Those poor poor dogs and their families. 💔 This is why it’s important to do extensive research on the people who are caring for your babies! Any pet professional in Palm Beach County must be registered with Animal Care and Control with yearly inspections and permitting. First place to call to research for any investigations or issues! May these babies rest in peace. 🌈

Juuuuuust Putting this out there….
As an added reminder, I will be closed July 5th due to those who have high anxiety to the boom booms the night before. Keep your pets inside and when let out, keep them on a leash and have a tight grip! Yes, even with a fenced property!! This is the time of year when so many pets go missing! Don’t be one of those owners who endures heart break this coming Independence Day! Everyone be safe! ❤️🐶🎆
