Partnership:
True partnership is when you are so connected with your partner that you move, think, feel as as one individual. Your heart rate and emotions sync, and your thoughts harmonize. It’s a relationship where you can trust the other with your life, without question and without hesitation.
Partnerships with a horse is unique. They are energetic and intuitive beings that connect on a very deep level. It is connection, unlike any other.

When when Jack Jack came into my life, he had a massive wall up. He was the most type A horse I had ever met. If I hesitated at all while leading him (a slight hesitation was usually when I was trying to figure out the best approach to support him), he took that as a sign of weakness and inability to lead him. This resulted in distrust in him with my leadership ability. Needless to say, like a lot of horses that I have encountered in my career, I got to EARN the right to lead. And boy did I get to work for it! Lol.
Today, I got to witness the strength of our partnership and it made me realize how far we have come together! Today there was some debris on our hack around the farm that is not normally there. He is a very brave horse, however, today he honestly thought there was a predator in the field . I asked him to stop and look at it, instead of running away. Then I felt my legs pulsing from his heartbeat, pounding out of his chest and rib cage. I have only experienced this level of fear with him once or twice in the years that I’ve had him. Today, even though he was legitimately, terrified, and thought there was a predator that could hurt us, when I asked him to stay and not run away he did and he trusted me! He was trying to save the two of us together, no matter what, not just himself. That is true partnership!
Early on in our partnership when we first began, he never gave me the feeling that he would necessarily leave me behind intentionally, however, if I chose to ask him to go towards whatever was terrifying to him, he probably would choose to save himself first and if I decided to go with him great, otherwise if I chose to stand firm and say no, we’re not leaving, he probably would be OK with leaving me behind if that was my choice. Lol.

Jack and I have been through a lot together. We have supported each other and we have helped each other heal from the inside out.

Partnerships with any horse is a blessing! The fact that they allow us to ride them (a prey animal allowing a predator to jump on their back) is pretty miraculous. It shows what amazing creatures they are.

Days like today reminds me of how blessed I am to get to do this every day with not just him, but with other horses and what a blessing it is that I get to come out on a daily basis and be surrounded by these majestic creatures. It is a true honor to be their partners!

I encourage you to take a moment to step back and think about all of the things you’re horse has done for and with you. If you haven’t already allowed yourself to experience a partnership like this with your horse, I encourage you to step into trust and vulnerability, so that you can experience the beauty of this relationship. I promise, you won’t regret it!
