Hi everyone, as many other pet sitters do we want to show off some of the many clients that we get to work with on a daily basis. But we didn't want the post to just be a photo of the animal and nothing else, so we decided a good idea would be to write a small informational blurb about the specific breed that is being displayed in the post. This is a way to teach the public while simultaneously promoting our services.
Our debut client/breed is Ace the American Bulldog. The American Bulldog is one of 200 breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). They are a distant relative of the English Bulldog and are speculated to have made their first appearance somewhere in the 17th century. Like many breeds back then the American Bulldog was bred for a specific role in the community, they acted as helpers to local farm hands completing tasks such as livestock herding, feral pest management and general companions to the farmers. Modern American Bull dogs are expected to have a friendly, loyal, gentle and assertive personality. Like most breeds they can make fantastic family dogs and members of the community so long as they are properly socialized as puppies. Since Bulldogs are a Brachycephalic breed (compressed skull with shortened nasal cavities) they are at higher risk for respiratory issues and overheating. It is important that owners of the breed monitor their pets activity especially in hot weather to ensure overheating does not occur.
