My Dear Friends & Neighbors. Recently we announced our program to Roll Back Inflation's Damage and Make Pet Parenting Affordable again. Those programs are now joined by our new Adopter Assistance program, that creates a low prix fixe for feeding a newly-adopted cat or dog from any Coachella Valley shelter, re-homing organization or other official non-profit organization. A note from your friends at Bones-N-Scones
Unprecedented conditions have combined to form a near-perfect storm that spells struggle for your local merchants, especially our downtown merchants where business costs tend to be higher and this kind of heat can kill walk traffic.
Your city's character as a go-to destination for tourists and locals, as well as our reputation for eclectic tastes and diversities is put at risk when conditions make it this difficult for established businesses to make a living, and the attraction for new business is reduced by a simple appraisal of economic potency across the city.
Competition from online giants like Amazon & Walmart certainly create fair-market challenges. One specific example of how these challenges influence our local businesses is very easy to understand. Why would customers leave the house to shop locally when the thermometer reaches 120 degrees when Amazon or Walmart will deliver, often for free or for an already-paid fee, right to their door?
Here's the reality behind that logic: it's perfectly natural and understandable. Even though there's a horrific downside to it in that local dollars that will help local merchants substantially more than they will aid Amazon or Walmart are now diverted outside of our city, the reality is that's how free markets work and we support either local or not with our buying decisions.
So, how can Palm Springs' citizens help? We strongly encourage two things:
1) At Bones-N-Scones, we've added our own local delivery service to provide same-day delivery to local customers. But not every business can afford to do something like this. We encourage you to ask your city representatives to consider working with and through the Chamber of Commerce and the City's Office of Economic development to create initiatives that will allow local merchants to have their products delivered to local customers at rates that customers and small businesses can afford and that will compete with the giants' rates. This will engage the City in the provision of essential services necessary to compete with services that gigantic companies like Amazon and Walmart use to provide convenience to customers that smaller companies can't afford. While this won't help businesses that rely on walk-by traffic in this heat, it will help to level the playing field with respect to delivery options and convenience in weather conditions that tend to keep people at home.
2) Consider every purchase that you may contemplate buying from competing giants like Amazon and Walmart (Chewy?). Then, if the product can be provided by a local business, plan your trips to minimize discomfort and buy local whenever possible.

Having trouble managing the cost of feeding your fourpaw family? Most know this already, but we just want to remind all of our neighbors that we're here to help. In 2023 we gave away over $40,000.00 in free product to our neighbors . So, before you consider giving up your dogs or cats to any shelter or anyone else, give us a chance to try to help. That's one of the reasons why we're here.

Whew, it's been a while since we've reached out to all of our friends here. Here's what we've been up to:

1) We're happy to announce that our Palm Desert location is now a fully-owned, fully-managed Bones-N-Scones store. This means that your history and preferences are available across all of our locations, and the same is true for rewards, returns and exchanges. Ray Nocera will be a shareholder, along with Kathy Hart, and both will remain engaged with the company and share in the future as we expand the Bones-N-Scones love to more locations across the greater Palm Springs area. Yay!

2) Our nutrition consultants will soon be trained to an even higher standard that is unmatched by any other pet food/pet supply company. Soon, you'll be able to easily identify our Bones-N-Scones Certified Nutrition Consultants who will each be trained to standards of the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC), and still provide the "best in the industry" nutrition advice and guidance that you've come to expect at Bones-N-Scones, Inc., and absolutely won't find anywhere else.

3) We're proud to announce that you've -- once again -- awarded us the "Best in the Coachella Valley" for 2023. We won't let you down.

4) We've made it our mission, in past years, to fight misinformation. We're now ramping up that fight on your behalf because we take your trust in us so seriously. This is done in an acknowledgement of the reality behind issues like grain-in or grain-free kibbles and the understanding that the truth about diet-related worry about spotlight issues like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) are the best way to arm ourselves with truth and dispel fears that are sometimes more about giant corporations' sales results than medical facts. We've made the decision to reaffirm our commitment to put you and your companions' interests first -- always.

5) We're committed to keeping your costs for feeding right and best under the best control possible. So we'll do a mixed-food analysis for every customer once a month -- free. This mixed-food analysis is way to include lower-cost kibbles with higher-quality frozen and canned foods to help you meet a budget limit with a more limited impact on the nutritional advantages of feeding the best available. Call or drop by any store and ask about a mixed-food diet plan and we'll schedule time to create a free plan for you.

I want to say a giant THANKS for your patience to all our fine friends and customers for so many years. Our Sun Center store at 633 S Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs will be open regular hours (10am - 6pm) beginning tomorrow June 10, 2022. We think we've worked through the worst of the difficulties there, and we're grateful to welcome our friends back into our Sun Center store. Bless all of you for your concern, patience, and loyalty while we prepared for this reopening.

Our Sun Center store (near Revivals) will *temporarily* close beginning on May 11, to reopen as soon as we possibly can. Please visit our store at Sunrise & Vista Chino until we reopen.
