These gorgeous dogs are needing a new home! Shadow is a lab and Weimaraner mix male, London is a St. Bernard female. They are both 1 years old and have grown up together. The family that owns them just moved and is no longer able to keep them with job changes. They have grown up around kids and have all their shots. Wondering how to survive all this hair that seems to be falling off your dog in sheets? The best way to tackle shedding season is to get your dog regularly de-shedded and groomed by a groomer every 4-5 weeks.

You will not notice much of a difference from a 1 time de-shed. It is important to get your dog de-shedded on a regular basis. This is due to the reoccurring hair cycle that takes place in each dog. Every 21-28 days, the hair follicle releases hair in order to grow a new hair. Thus, resulting in shedding. The longer your dog goes without getting de-shedded, the more dead hair is sitting on their skin. Visit Suite Life for a de-shed and notice the difference!

We have added early drop off and late pick-up after hours 7 days a week by appointment only. This picture shows the different temperatures of the dogs skin with hair vs. shaved hair. The places where the dog was shaved down are much hotter than the places where the coat is longer...heres why. A double coat has a few purposed for your dog. The dual layers act as insulation for both hot and cold weather keeping the heat off your dog in the summer, and keeping the cool air out during the winter! Dogs coats have alot to do with what they were originally bred for...

The guard hairs are the longer, outer layer. They allow cool air to circulate to the dogs skin after shedding the undercoat and also reflect the suns ray's to keep the dogs skin safe.

Many people think shaving down a double coated dog will help prevent shedding or keep them cooler...this is not true. Shaving prevents cool air from getting to the skin because the undercoat is still present. Shaving also exposed your dogs skin to the sun as their is no guard hairs to protect the skin.

Some examples of double coated dogs are labradors, huskies, golden retreivers, St. Bernards, etc. Let us groom your double coated dog correctly to help prevent over heating and skin exposure! If you would like to continue reading, please visit vsas.org for more details.
