According to the CAPC (Companion Animal Parasite Council) in a recently received email, there have been 833 (reported) positive cases of Heartworm in Pa this year so far. 137 cases in the last month. 32 of the total cases were from Cumberland County. These stats are taken from laboratories that we currently work with. New cases are popping up every month. Given the travel of animals, rescue animals and the movement of wildlife, parasites have become more prevalent in areas once though to be less worrisome. Monthly Heartworm treatments (Sentinel, Heartgard, Revolution) are recommended year round because of this. Protect your puppies! **Here is a video on the microscope of a recently diagnosed Heartworm positive dog diagnosed at our clinic.**
