Why has Perez not found a home yet??? He is the easiest dog you could ever wish for, according to the volunteer who has been taking him home on sleepovers. Below you can read what she has to say about him. He is going to be back at the shelter tomorrow afternoon, Monday (12/4), for a longer period of time and we sure would like to see him find a home as he thrives in one and not in the shelter.
“In Sweden we have a saying that — literally translated — corresponds to “A dear child has many names” (“Kärt barn har många namn”). The meaning is pretty straightforward: popular things can have a variety of different names in different contexts.
So Perez also goes by Bowman (due to being so bowlegged), and Flash (from the sloth at DMV in the movie Zootopia.
Perez is the easiest house guest ever and if you are looking for a dog who doesn’t require much, you should definitely come meet him and here is why:
• He is the most chill dog you will ever meet. He enjoys just laying around chewing on a hard toy or sleeping.
• He is easy to walk but you can not be in a hurry as he moves like a sloth 🙂
• He gets along with all sizes of dogs though he doesn’t really play. We have not seen him around cats but he does show interest in squirrels. That is actually the only time he goes into second gear 🙂
• He is great with people but does not demand too much attention. (We have not seen him around small children).
• He loves to go for car rides. He either sits perfectly still looking out the window or lays down and goes to sleep.
• He sleeps through the night and as long as you get him out when he gets up, he is house broken.
• He is non destructive (only chews on the toys) and he does not bark often
• Last but not least, he is soooo cute. If a dog and a potbelly pig could mate, he would have been their son 🙂

Max is adopted 🎉🎉!!
We have very special news on this Thanksgiving Eve, our long time resident Max has officially been adopted!! Max is such a sweet loving boy, he was a shelter favorite of volunteers and staff 🥰. He waited so patiently and so long - over two years for his hero (his mom) to come for him! She saw his posts and videos on Facebook and reached out and decided to come meet him and give him a chance. She did a foster to adopt trial with Max and today decided to make it official! We are all just so happy she did! We are over the moon happy for Max who finally found his happily ever after, and so very grateful to his new Mom and Dad for adopting him and giving him a wonderful home full of snacks, comfort, love and of course hockey! Go bolts! Happy Life Maxey we love you 🥰!
Eggo spent the first part of his life living with a homeless person. He was outside with his person 24/7 and now he spends 23+ hours a day alone in a kennel.
He is loosing weight rapidly from kennel stress and spinning. It's not easy to loose the only "home" you had and your person all at the same time.
No more long walks.
No more trots next to his person's bicycle.
No more sleeping under the stars.
Eggo isn't super familiar with being inside a house but he knows how to get comfortable on a sofa or soft bed.
He is smart and knows commands, walks nice on a leash and when he gets his exercise he can chill and cuddle.
He is ok with other dogs but no kitties (the are for chasing!) and small children make him nervous.
Eggo would do best in a home with a person who is home more often than away. Someone who works from home would be great. He needs a family that has patience and understanding but can still get him our and give him the exercise he needs.

Happy Update! Mystery & Cody were adopted from Manatee County Animal Services.
Mystery was dumped along with another dog on a construction site and Cody came in as a very sick (strangles) puppy. They are together 24/7 and snuggle together every night.
We are so happy to see them living a wonderful life with a loving family. Cody sure has a lot to say about dinner!

If you are local contact the Board of County Commissioners and DEMAND that they vote on a SPAY & NEUTER program that keeps people from having "oops" litters (way too many of those!) or recklessly breeding to make a few bucks (sorry but go get a real job that doesn't exploit animals!)
Other counties in Florida have spay & neuter regulations and Manatee County should too! More and more people are moving to this area and the county has done nothing to increase regulations regarding spay & neuter.
The BOCC says "we can't tell people what to do" but we beg to differ! They tell people what they can and can't do EVERY DAY!

ZOEY mattered once. She was loved. Then her person became ill, & could no longer care for her. ZOEY was forgotten. She went from living in a caring home to invisible in an overcrowded shelter. ✅ Polite sleeper in bed and is also perfectly content to sleep in a dog bed on the floor. Easy peasy!
🛑 Zoey's only down fall is that she does not get along with cats and should not live with any. She would probably also be best suited as the only pet in the home.
Seniors don't belong in shelters, they belong on couches.
