The Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo A place to explore, discover, create, & play!
(573)

The Zoo is home to more than 50 species of animals—about 200 specimens in all—many of which are brought into classrooms as part of the Junior Museum & Zoo's science outreach program with local schools. We offer a menagerie of science programs for schools and community groups, as well as classes, summer camps, and birthday parties for families.

Some days you just need a miniature goblet filled with banana🍌

If you’re lucky, you may see this ambassador on your next visit to the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo!!

This is “Scully” – she is an African Grey Parrot and long-term resident at the zoo. She’s been with us since 1997!

African Grey Parrots have an unparalleled ability to mimic human speech and other sounds. Scully can say a handful of words and while she may seem friendly if you see her at the zoo, she is wary of strangers. Her species, though small, packs a powerful bite too! You don’t want to get too close. 😃

Have you seen our life-size realistic bronze sculptures around the zoo? Recently, Cairo, our resident African Sacred Ibis, has taken a shine to our bronzed Whistling Duck. 🦆

Ibis are a large group of wading birds use their slender, curved bills to probe in shallow water, mud, or grass for tasty morsels.

When Cairo isn’t flocking with our Scarlet Ibis, he may be seen roosting in the tallest of trees, searching for food in the flamingo stream, or checking out our visitors!
