This post is breaking my heart. When I describe this woman to people I say that she is living proof that there are angels on earth. She has taken in the most severe cases, dogs dumped in the desert to die, not to mention the thousands she has saved from shelters.
I am posting her message to me and if anyone out there feels generous any amount will help.
Dear friends.
I am reaching out to our amazing supporters who know that we rescue endless numbers of abandoned dogs and street dogs. WE are struggling like never before to feed our rescued animals but CALLS are coming in from everywhere in the high desert asking for pet food and help for parvo puppies We have six litters of moms and puppies and lots of big shepherds and bully breeds and little senior dogs that need special diet food. We have dogs on Vetmedin for their hearts, medicine and special diets for kidney failure, dogs with mange, mangled dogs, starving dogs, pregnant dogs, parvo dogs and puppies and so many waiting for vetting. We take the lost, the sick and the injured with no questions asked. Please donate any amount....donations are hard to come by in these times of inflation and I have never before in forty years of rescue been so low in funding. I don't want to quit rescuing and I don't want to turn away people in need whose pets are starving. Victor Valley and San Bernardino are extremely low income areas and people and their pets are suffering. We will continue to help as long as we are able but it is getting harder each day. I have four fosters and not one of us take a penny for ourselves. We rescue because of the love and compassion we have for the discarded lost dogs. ALL DONATIONS ARE SPENT ON THE RESCUES.
We have reached the point that after more than FORTY years of rescue and a greater need than ever before that we can no longer afford to help the many many animals we have been helping. If we are not able to get our coffers with reserve funds I sadly will have to close down Desert Dog Project after the first of the year. We helped more that 30 PARVO pups since beginning of summer and tons and tons of puppies. It is breaking my heart but we have no choice without donors.. Vets are charging us huge amounts for care and altering. Food is more than $60 a bag and we have not received any food donations for almost 10 months. Neutering a 5 pound male dog is costing more than $300 and local vets will not let us walk in for shots. We have to pay an office visit, disposal charge, a vet tech charge for giving the shots so a DA2ppv Bordetella and rabies is over $200. Microchips at the vet are 75. We are in the red for every dog we adopt by hundreds of dollars and boarding for 30 days is more than $400. And the DOGS are the ones who will continue to suffer and die.
Please, if you are able, donate any amount you can afford so we can feed hungry dogs, streets dogs and abandoned pets. YOU can save a life and be a hero . We are buying dry food at Costco, Kirkland Brand which is about 38.00 in store and $49 if you order online. We used a minimum of 4 bags a day and a lot of prescription soft food which is super expensive. Now we are now also helping cats. We have Twenty Two cats and kittens in our care and everyone of them needs shots and spay neuter. Most coming from the shelters are sick and need medical treatment.
You can buy Costco gift cards or donate any of the ways below. Small donations add up and large donations give our rescue security so we can never turn away a dying animal.. Please share this email with family and friends. DDP is so grateful to our faithful donors but we are getting desperate for funding. All gifts are tax deductible and allow us to NEVER SAY NO to a desperate living soul..
Support our rescue efforts so we can continue to save lives.
Blessing to all. Pat Bonham
