We at OSB are working hard to increase the availability of Spay/Neuter at our clinic. This week 312 surgeries were performed, with Monday being the only day our AH-Mazing Dr. Bays had help (Thank you Dr. Howell❤️). This coming week we have an extra Veterinarian thanks to the Bissell Animal Foundation on Monday & Tuesday and a new group we refer to as S3, whom travels to different locations, on Friday & Saturday. There are a few spots left on Fri/Sat I believe, mostly for male dogs. We will continue with these types of opportunities into the coming year. Hiring more veterinarians directly is a challenge as there is a shortage.
Community Cats 🐈⬛ a hot topic 🥵! Even though Dr. Bays is one of a kind surgeon (NW Florida we won the lottery on this‼️), she can only do so much. We have to limit the amount we can handle each week for 2 reasons. The first being we would like for Dr. Bays hands not to fall off and the fact we only charge $40 for community cats. $40 does not really cover the cost of what it takes to get a community cat in/out the door. Intake, data entry, pre-med, surgical prep, surgery, recovery, and pickup. All of these functions take paid employees, the cost of maintaining a building, equipment, supplies and well you get the idea. So that is why we can only do so many per week. We very much understand the need 😳‼️And we all know it’s a crap shoot whether that cat will go in the trap or not, so it’s not always dependable income or we end up with 150 cats in the clinic if we don’t have limitations.
OSB basically through default has also become a full fledged Veterinary clinic. The need is great & we have worked hard to accommodate that need to a wide range of services. We realize our clinic is overcrowded and has the appearance of a madhouse 🫣🤣, but so many have nowhere else to go, so we make it work! Thanks to Dr. Jones & Dr. Dornbusch we now offer some level of clinical services 5 days per week. Once we move into our new space the clinic & surgery will be separate.
The staff. They work their tails off. Our Vets couldn’t do what they do without the support staff. Next time you are in the clinic give them a smile and a thank you ❤️😊, share the love 💕 as they say‼️. No they are not perfect & things/mis-understandings/mistakes do happen, but please make management aware in a civilized manner & they will get to the bottom of it.
We have also changed our spay/neuter booking procedures and only book out 2 months for public clients. We hope this helps with the number of no-shows we were experiencing when we were booked out for months at a time. We are also purchased a new phone system that we will be deploying in a couple of months which will alleviate much of the frustration surrounding phone calls.
Why am I making this post? I just wanted everyone to know we listen to your need’s & frustrations. We are doing everything we can to make our clinic a better experience for everyone & every pet. Remember our goal is to:
