Penny moved to a new place today. The family is hoping for a foster to adopt situation if Penny settles in well. She would have a dog sister and two kids to love on. Everyone keep Penny in your thoughts/prayers. We are all hopeful it will be a perfect fit ♥️.

Well the day came and went. Penny got her first of 3 heartworm injections today and I can honestly say it’s heartbreaking to watch her go through this. How do I explain that her favorite people in the world (her vet team) is just doing what’s best, what will give her a better and longer life? As her vet tech gave her hugs today when I went to pic her up, her legs wobbled. She doesn’t feel well, and she doesn’t want to stand up. We got home (to her foster home) and she went straight inside to bed. She wasn’t interested in saying hi to anyone, she just wanted a bed where she could sleep. She reluctantly got up for dinner and ate the two bites of hotdog she got with her medication in it, but that’s all. Now she is snuggled up on my bed (with foster mom) so she can easily tell me if she needs anything overnight.

PLEASE GIVE YOUR PETS PREVENTION!!!! This isn’t a frivolous expenditure, it keeps them healthy and prevents unnecessary illness, a PREVENTABLE illness.

Penny doesn’t let missing a leg slow her down. She loves everyone so much ❣️ she was very worried about where the puppies were being taken to (vet appointment) so she was oh so glad to see them come back okay.

Who can give Penny all the love and spoiling she deserves? It’s really not too difficult. She loves soft beds, treats, regular meals, and lots of telling her how pretty she is 😉.

Have you ever had a dog that told you when she needs something? Penny doesn’t go stand by the door when she needs let out. She doesn’t pick up her bowl when she is hungry. Penny walks up about 5 feet away, stares into my soul, and tells me what she wants. If I don’t listen the first time, she gets happy feet and tells me until I guess the right thing and start moving towards said thing. She is so full of personality and so fun to be around. Penny is always smiling despite all she’s been through and all she wants is regular food and a soft bed to lay on. Penny can go to an adoptive home and the rescue would guide the adopter through the rest of heartworm treatment and cover the injections financially. Penny finished her doxycycline round last Friday, and she has had more and more energy every day! She got to go meet some new people today with her foster brothers so more pics to come!

Penny went for a weigh in (she is gaining!) and to help pick up donations at the vet. She rides great in the car, LOVES meeting people and new dogs, and has zero fear of the vets office. Penny would love a foster to adopt home where she could finish heartworm treatment and be spoiled like she deserves to be! We hear the rescue is running low on food so if you are willing to donate some Purina One adult dog food please reach out!

Because we have been hit so hard with Parvo here are a few reminders!

- keep your puppy at home until it has had ALL of its puppy shots!
- sudden lethargy, not eating, drinking, vomiting means you need to call your vet IMMEDIATELY
- there is a new treatment out there that can help, but does best the earlier you catch it. It is not a cure!
- only a few things kill the Parvo Virus (bleach), and it can live in the soil for years
-dog may still be contagious for weeks after they feel better

An update on our pups: Bruno is now testing negative, Birk & Traeger are doing well, Cally & Mango are still fighting so keep them and their fosters in your thoughts and prayers please!

Thank you thank you to everyone who has donated so far! We can’t thank you enough! The squares that have an X on them have been adopted twice! If we can adopt each number twice by Monday May 27th we will do another drawing for $75!

Penny was very very happy to lose the cone this week! She’s healing fabulously, loves to lounge around in the sun, and take short sniff walks around the yard. She’s potty trained, kennel trained, doesn’t need the kennel, and loves all dogs and people she has come across! She is just so very sweet.

Another round of good news from the crew that saved her life 🎉. Penny is gaining weight, and her check up was A Okay! She is getting steroids for her heartworm treatment which is giving her a little boost in energy and appetite 😁.

Penny got to spend some time out of her cone today while foster mom was home with her! She’s recovering well, but has been a little more tired the last two days, so she gets to visit her fav people and get a checkup tomorrow! 🤞 it’s nothing.

Early morning visit again today to go see some of Penny’s favorite people and we have some news to share 📣 She got her stitches out and started heartworm treatment today!!

She has been such a good patient for her vet team! She is gaining weight, healing well, and cooperates so well! She does still want to clean and soothe her incision site, so she will have to stay in a cone for a bit yet, but she’s doing great!

We have quite a few long timers in our little rescue as well as some special needs dogs (Etta & Penny) that we could really use donations for! We know that donations are down across the world so we wanted to try something new to us! Even if you aren’t in a position to “adopt” a dog (or cat) right now everyone can “adopt” a square! 😍

Here’s how it works: adopt a square (or 4 or 5 squares 🤣) by commenting which square(s) you would like then Venmo the money over. Whichever square(s) you pick are what you donate. Example: Lindsey picks squares 1 & 20 so she Venmo’s us $21.

We had a quick trip to see some of our favorite people this morning! Penny seems to enjoy the car, and loves the attention of being out of the house! She hasn’t been reactive or done anything but wag her tail at new people and dogs we come across! Turned out she has a very common complication of surgery, a build up of inflammatory fluid. Nothing that some time and TLC won’t take care of! Due to the extra pressure and fluid on her incision, her team has decided to wait a few more days until removing her stitches….means another outting for our sweet girl 😁.

For this $5 Friday, here’s a not so fun fact….
Heartworm treatment costs $1-2K per dog. This is only the financial cost of actual treatment. This doesn’t include the long term effects Heartworm can have on a dog or complications that may arise during treatment. Penny will begin treatment, since she is heartworm positive, once she is felt to be stable by her vet team. As you can imagine, vet costs for Penny will be immense. If you have an extra $5 to spare you can send towards Penny’s vet care via Venmo or PayPal.

Penny got to see some of the amazing people who saved her life today, AND got some great news! Healing is going well and she got to get her drain out 🥳
When she was done her amazing co-foster momma took her for her very own pup cup! She looks pretty darn happy today 😊. It really takes a village and we have the best!

Foster mom had to work today, so Penny got to meet some friends! She seems to really love people, even those pesky tweens 🤣.
We are so happy to report that she is getting an appetite back and trying to eat today! Her gums are also starting to pink back up. She has a little pep in her step and went to find a bone to chew on while in her kennel and was so proud of herself ♥️.

Sponge bath side one done! 🤫 Don’t tell the Doctor that we gave her a bite of hamburger 🤭. (But she ate it!!) Now it’s nap time!

Penny is a 6 year old Carolina Dog mix that Rescue K-911 was urgently asked to help with. We were told she originally had a broken leg from getting hit by a car. She had her leg repaired, but it seems there was nerve damage causing her to chew on it. She needed more help than her previous owners could give her so they brought her in for euthanasia. She was beyond sick. The vet team fought hard to stabilize her as much as they could in 24 hours, when she underwent amputation (her only chance to live). She was hospitalized for 3 nights, then moved to a medical foster. She still isn’t eating and can’t stand for more than a minute or two at a time, but we are going to give this girl every chance we can. She is also heartworm positive, but until she starts recovering from her leg amputation and infection, we cannot begin treatment. Thus her journey to recovery, and eventually a furever home, begins.
