We know many of you have been concerned about reports of a new canine respiratory disease in the news lately. We have received many great questions from our concerned pet parents. First, we want to assure you that we are following those reports closely and will keep you all updated.

While diagnostic testing has not yet confirmed a cause, the reports appear to have similar symptoms to many common dog respiratory illnesses like Kennel Cough (Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex).

At this time we suggest caution rather than worry. Keeping up on preventative care and following some simple guidelines can go a long way to reducing the risk of respiratory infection for furry family members.

On the other side of our hospital though in our Isolation room, we've got a couple cuties who are in desperate need of our care and love.

Holly (light color) and Berry (dark color) are approximately 5 months old, females, and thought to be boxer mixes. They were brought in yesterday, evaluated, and tested, determining they both are positive for Parvo.

Right away we began the new monoclonal parvo infusion. We are one of the only Veterinarians in this area that has this drug. Holly and Berry are at the beginning stage of the disease so hopefully the intervention will keep their symptoms mild overall. The "parvo cure" works best if the pup was exposed less than 4 days prior to receiving treatment. Even though this drug is referred to as the "cure" it only prevents the virus from duplicating. The body still needs to heal from the damage the virus might have caused, and often times the pups may still suffer with mild to moderate symptoms, but usually for a shorter recovery time.

If you ask us what it means to be a Veterinarian, we’ll always tell you that it’s so much more than
vaccinations and surgery. Yes, of course that’s part of it. We love caring for pets, it’s why we got started in Vet Med in the first place.

But we also believe that our job doesn’t stop inside our hospital. School visit, hospital tours and community engagement are the things that keep us going.

Whether you see us out and about in the community or during an exam at PAH, we hope you know that along with compassionate pet care, we are dedicated to enriching and giving back to our community. 💙🐾

This morning Dr Mike and Dr Johnson went to visit with Golden Hills preschool about what it means to be a Veterinarian. 😍

Next up is Bruno from

Bruno is living his best life, on his terms. He struggles to let people pet him or try to pick him up, BUT he is happy to be in someone's company. He will take treats right from his foster's hand and will come around to sleep in their room at night. He is often happy to see his family members, when they return home, as he greets them with a smiling face and a wagging tail.

He enjoys the company of other dogs, especially ones that are pretty laid back, like him. A fenced yard is a must for Bruno since it could be difficult to get him on a leash. Bruno would do best in a home, where the family understands that he will be content just being in someone's company. He will probably not be the snuggle buddy that people look for, but he is a happy guy and is enjoying his life of freedom. And to his foster family, that is perfect!!

Each Friday we’ll showcase black beauties from different rescues looking for their forever home!

First up is the rainbow liter from Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, Inc

These pups were scheduled to be put down in a southern shelter along with their mother, Camilla, due to overcrowding. These pups were indeed born with all the luck against them. First, they are primarily black, and as rescue people know, black dogs often tend to get overlooked by people wanting to adopt. Second, they are pit mixes, again often overlooked due to unfair stereotypes. Lastly, as fate would have it, they are "special needs" in that they were born with varying abnormal craniofacial conditions. One puppy has undergone surgery to correct his cleft condition. Another puppy will have surgery in the near future to repair a lower jaw that is too small (micrognathia). The others have "split or
cleft noses".
These dear sweet puppies are at risk of growing up in rescue for no other reason than they don't fit the standards of the "perfect" dog, even though these pups are playful lovebugs who enjoy nothing more than spending time with the people who love them.

🎃🐾 Halloween Pet Safety Tips 🐾🎃

Halloween is spooky fun, but it can be a bit tricky for our furry friends! Here are some tips to keep your pets safe during the festivities:
🍫🚫 Keep chocolate, raisins, gum, and candy corn away from your pets! Opt for pet-friendly treats instead.

🍬🌯 Don't forget about candy wrappers - they can cause obstructions. Dispose of them properly!

🐶🎃 Make sure pet costumes are comfy and safe. Ensure they can move freely and breathe easily.

🏷🐾 Check collars with up-to-date tags and microchips. This can be a lifesaver if your pet gets spooked and wanders off.

😰 If your pet is anxious around Halloween, consider keeping them in a room with their favorite toys and some white noise to keep them calm during the festivities.

LVTs complete a degree in veterinary technology and pass national examination to gain licensure. Their role is vast and responsibilities include anesthestic induction and monitoring, radiology, dentistry, CPR, & laboratory procedures, just to name a few.🩺🩹
Licensed technicians have a vital and challenging role in veterinary medicine and we’d be nothing without them !

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮 - are key to us providing a high level of clinical standards. They lead, supervise, and support the nursing and assistant staff. They also train and pursue continual development of nursing/assistant staff.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 is also responsible for a magnitude of tasks as well. Primarily guiding the daily activities of the entire front desk staff, and ensuring communication between other receptionists and all areas of the hospital run smoothly. Savannah trains new reception staff, seeks new ways to better serve clients, and is the first point of contact for any client concerns/issues.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿/𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿 maintains ordering and stocking of all pharmacy and surgery items. Keeps a data entry system to track ordering and budgets, conducts annual and monthly counts, and maintains professional relationships with industry partners and distributors. Taylor is also responsible for tracking and managing each of our Doctors' DEA licenses and requirements.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻, oversees the day-to-day operations of the hospital, in a way that ensures a caring and professional service is provided for clients and patients. She also strategizes ways that the business can grow, develop, and become more involved with the local community. She leads all aspects of staffing including, hiring, scheduling, leave benefits, performance reviews, training, and handbook policies and procedures.

We all have different roles, but the end goal for each of us is the same: provide reliable and trusted family pet care by building on the values of honest, friendly, and dependable patient-focused services.

I love working at PAH as our practice manager!

The team is skilled and caring. Our atmosphere exudes teamwork. I’ve had so much fun packing gift boxes, organizing meals, and finding all the ways to celebrate the team! We’re only half way through and I can’t wait for them to see what in store for the rest of the week, they deserve all of this and more!

Veterinary receptionists are terrific at handling everything important from the initial client contact by phone, to the collecting of charges, to the “Have a nice day” goodbye.

They handle many things, which we sometimes forget, as we move from exam room to exam room in BOH. They are rock stars as they deal with a steady stream of clients and pets. They handle phone shoppers, appointment scheduling, price quotes, prescription and food pick up, client concerns, dogs barking, and even the occasional “accident” on the reception room floor.

They handle every interaction with style and grace. They show kindness and concern and embody the PAH values with every interaction.

We wouldn't be the team that we are without our Client Care team. Help us say thank you for all that they do!
