Historic Restoration
Historic buildings connect us to the past. They’re physical reminders of what came before us and help to create a sense of culture in a neighborhood. That’s why we were eager to take on the challenge of replicating The Lancaster Central Market's thirteen sets of entry doors. The market is one of the most iconic sites in Lancaster and is heavily trafficked, so the doors have seen a lot of wear over nearly 150 years. We hope to see the new doors serve the Lancaster community for just as long!
For projects that need a sensitive, accurate touch, trust Vintage Millwork & Restoration as your historic building restoration contractor. We take pride in restoring buildings to their former glory so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.
Hardware Installation
We’re in the process of replacing the doors at The Lancaster Central Market, and along with that comes some new hardware. While we were able to reuse the old door handles, we installed new kickplates and hinges, which will keep the doors looking beautiful and functioning properly.
It’s easier to choose all the right components for your new door, such as the hardware or the best wood species, when you have an expert to walk you through the process. We have such experts on hand: they can take your vision and turn it into a real, solid door that you’ll love. Start the process by calling 717-687-0292.
Custom Tack Room and Lounge for a Chester County Horse Barn
This tack room and lounge is an equestrian’s dream come true! We believe that the best tack room is one where every piece of equipment has a place, so we created 10 custom wooden saddle racks for storage. A tack island, wall hooks, and plenty of cabinetry provide additional storage. A second room with a washer, dryer, and sink lies behind a sliding pocket door. Behind a live-sawn reclaimed white oak door lies a lounge that is pure equestrian elegance.

Lancaster Central Market Doors
We recently had the honor of installing two new sets of doors for The Lancaster Central Market. Central Market is the oldest continuously running farmer’s market in America, and the doors we replaced were nearly 150 years old! Those original doors were crafted in mahogany, so we used the same durable species as well and matched the original rusty red color that Lancastrians are so familiar with. But these new doors aren’t just aesthetically pleasing – they will also increase the market’s security and accessibility.
This project began in 2023, and to date we’ve replaced eight of the thirteen sets of doors. The work will continue into 2025 and it is expected that all thirteen sets of doors will be replaced by the end of the year.
Luxury Horse Barn
Here’s a preview of one of our latest projects. We crafted several custom pieces for this luxurious, private horse barn, including elegant mahogany doors that adorn the barn’s exterior, three custom cupolas that allow air and light into the facility, and even more custom doors, saddle racks, and custom railings on the upper level. Stay tuned for a closer look at this beautiful space!

Residential Sliding Barn Doors
These sliding barn doors don’t just provide protection for the custom wooden entry doors – they also allow the homeowner to change the look of their exterior by opening and closing them.

Here’s a look at a residential entry door that we recently shipped out. The windows are made of restoration glass, also known as wavy glass, which replicates the look of 1800’s-era mouth-blown window panes. We often use this type of glass in projects where the client is looking for an old-world look.
