Today my photo goes up on the big board at Time's Square as part of our Great Cycle Challenge. I am proud to be a part of this.

Next month, I am riding 300 miles in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Because right now, more than 15,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in the United States, and 38 kids die every week.
My challenge will be tough, but it's nothing compared to what these brave kids and their families face every day of their lives as they battle this terrible disease.
Kids should be living life, NOT fighting for it.

This week's Favorite Course choice was really hard as I loved this set of courses. I also went with one of the Standards of Jumpers but decided on the Sunday Snooker'
I really liked this course as it had some real nice options to either go for a Q or go BIG. It was nice and spread out to allow the team to move. It had fair challenges along the way. There were a lot of great runs including several 51's and the times were very fair.
These were the most common plans although there were some others used as well.

Back to posting my Two for Tuesday exercises on our CPE Agility and Speedway Skills group. Some challenging exercises based off this year's Jackpot at Nationals. This was such a nice Jackpot and one that had a pretty good Q rate. Much more in line with what one would get at a regular trial!

A finally the Favorite course of the weekend. There will be no courses next weekend as I am judging at CPE nationals and will share those only on our group there. This one was fun to watch. I am a big fan of straight tunnels and use them very often.

Here is the other Premier course from this past Sunday. It ran well and teams seemed to really enjoy it. I loved the section leading to the weaves, the layers after the weaves and the closing sequence.

Not all courses turn out as we expected. So, this week I am sharing one of those that did not turn out as well as I had hoped. Certainly not my favorite course of the weekend and it is never fun to watch so many great teams fail on one of your courses. Not a detailed accounting of what all failed to work on this one. There were some really nice runs that ended with "Just one thing wrong"

Here was the other course from this weekend. But to be honest I really liked this whole set.
This one nested nicely off the Premier and I think they complemented each other very well. Teams seemed to lead out a bit shorter for this one. A couple teams ended up with off courses on both :-) The teams that lead out on the left stopping near #2 had a possible issue with a refusal or at least a loss of speed going into the tunnel.
There were a number of dogs that took the start jump as an off course while headed to 6 and three or four teams that flipped off 7 to the finish jump. A number of teams struggled with tunnel 10 with some dogs crossing behind the handlers to get the wrong entrance.
I was very impressed with the number of teams that layered the tunnels to the weaves poles which gave them a HUGE advantage coming down the closing line. Some others get an advantage by simple leaving the dogs in the weaves and working toward the far side of 15 or the landing side of 15. If you had to work the weaves all the way to the end you paid a price with handling the closing line and really needed a strong GO-GO-GO to not get a refusal on that line.
I have not checked what the Q rate was, but it felt good and there were some great times thrown down.

Here is one of my two favorite courses for this weekend. I liked these for the variety of handling, the speed the teams were able to maintain, and the subtle challenges each presented. This was my Premier JWW to start the day on Sunday.
The black path is the general dog path in the more technical parts.

The Pink were some of the big off course options that happened.

There were a couple of nice options for a big lead out to make the soft backside of 3 and the wrap to the tunnel very smooth. Some of the teams that set up in between the tunnel and the jump ended up getting the tunnel, or actually having the dog miss #2. I am not sure if perhaps those handlers moved too early or not. Sadly some handlers did not support the turn out of the tunnel and took for granted that the dog would turn to them causing some off courses and refusals at #5.

The soft Threadle at 6-7 was handled nicely by many teams as a threadle. There was an option to turn your dog back at 6 or go the long way to 7 if you had wanted. I did want to see speed maintained here and I was pretty happy with how it went.

The light blue was my preferred path to the bidirectional jump 13. I liked that path much better because I felt it gave both a better entry to the weaves and allowed the handler to accelerate to get down for a nice cross on the landing side of 15 and be in position to do the Backside at 17. Handlers that took the easy approach to 13 really had to work harder to get the weave entry. often keeping them more in line with the dog at 15.
The backside to 17 was handled so well by many of the teams creating a very fast ending.
All in all, I was very happy with this course and have some ideas to use from it later.

PSA to my CPE friends. There is a Rocky Creek Trial April 13-14, 2024 at Y2K9's set to close on Wednesday. Yours truly is the judge, one of the rare times I get to judge CPE close by. I hear there is lots of room still left for you to enter and get to work on those 2025 Nationals Q's. Support your local CPE clubs!

It was fun discussing my Master Standard course from Friday. It was a great discussion. Loved hearing the feedback both good and bad. Here is another course open for discussion. It is my Saturday Fast course.
Due to load balancing I did not get to judge the 20/24" dogs but I did get to watch them run. Lots of options on the course with some different challenges both before and during the send.
Overall, I enjoyed the course and the challenges and there were some awesome runs. My feedback on what worked and what did not a bit later!
