Quartermaster Suspension (penicillin-dihydrostreptomycin in oil) is the mastitis treatment trusted for decades by dairy producers and their veterinarians. More than 150 million doses have shown it be highly effective in treating and preventing Staphylococcus aureus infections in dry cows. aureus is an important cause of mastitis, and the most common pathogen isolated in milk from cows at dry-off.

By effectively treating mastitis at dry-off, producers can ensure cows freshen free of intramammary infection for maximum production of high-quality milk. University researchers have shown that duration of treatment is the most important factor affecting the cure of Staph. Quartermaster remains in the udder long enough to cure not only clinical mastitis infections, but subclinical ones too, for reduced incidence of Staph. aureus in the entire herd. Studies have shown it to be equally effective as other dry-cow antibiotics in curing existing infections and preventing new infections. Wondering about resistance? In a landmark study of bacterial resistance to antimicrobial drugs, including penicillin, University of Wisconsin researchers found no evidence of widespread resistance on U.S. Each 10 milliliters of suspension contains 1,000,000 units of Procaine Penicillin G and 1 gram of Dihydrostreptomycin base, as Dihydrostreptomycin Sulfate. Users have the option of full or partial insertion of the cannula, which meets the recommendations of the National Mastitis Council. Quartermaster should not be used within 6 weeks of freshening, and is not for use in lactating cows. Milk taken from animals within 96 hours (8 milkings) after calving must not be used for food. Animals infused with this drug must not be slaughtered for food within 60 days from the time of infusion, or within 96 hours after calving. Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. Prescribing information is available at:
