🔥🐾The Story of Lucy & A Redhead Named Miss Jane 🐾🔥

I am pleased to offer this 5-STAR review for the fine training and loving care given to my frightened dog, Lucy. Lucy has a history and reputation among my friends as a mean and dangerous animal, when in fact she is more appropriately known as a "fear biter," who lunges, growls, barks and bites if people get too close to her. She is fully bonded with me and I always experience her gentle, loving disposition, but she will attack and bite people when they get too close to her. Because of this, our life together is primarily limited to the house and the fenced-in backyard. Before she came to me negative experiences influenced the behavior to escalate. So the folks at ORO K9 had their hands full when Lucy arrived for rehab!

After her hour-long evaluation, Kris determined that Lucy was a candidate for a successful three-week on-site training program. She stated that Lucy would probably never be a normal dog since there was just too much damage but she could learn to handle her fears safely and appropriately and that we would be able to go out in public together without fear of a dangerous encounter. With proper training, Lucy would learn to determine her comfort level with visitors and choose to remove herself to her safe space when needed. That's a lot to learn in just three weeks!

A week and a half into the three-week stay at their facility I was invited to participate in her training since I needed to learn how to reinforce at home the appropriate behavior and to correct her if she made the decision to bark, growl, lunge, or bite.
I think the most difficult part of our training was the training of me.

Now that she is home again, Kris comes to the house once a week for follow-up and to continue my education as well. For Lucy, this is a lifelong training and reinforcement at home and I have seen significant progress towards our goal. Three weeks ago I couldn't imagine her behavior would change so significantly in this short amount of time. She now goes willingly without me telling her to do so to her crate when a friend visits, There's no dangerous or embarrassing behavior and life is peaceful. We take walks and when we encounter someone she will, at my command, stand or sit quietly at my side nearly always without barking, growling, lunging or trying to bite. if she does misbehave even a little bit a correction is swiftly given. Soon we will venture out walking at local dog-friendly businesses in the area. I continue to learn from Kris how to help Lucy live her best life safely - for herself and for the people she encounters. Lucy and I now attend the weekly follow-up training program at ORO K9 to continue my education and reinforce Lucy's good behavior.

The decision to enroll Lucy in the ORO K9 three-week on-site training program has been such a blessing for my sweet little traumatized dog. Kindness and firmness and quick correction, offering and enforcing an alternative choice for behavior are working wonders with her. I highly recommend their training program. It's amazing the change in my dog in such a short time. 5 STARS!!

⚡️Brian Hempelmann became a police officer in 1994 with the Westminster Police Department in Colorado. He then became a K9 handler in 1997. Brian has since worked 5 dual purpose K9’s. 4 were dual purpose narcotics dogs and his current is a dual purpose explosive dog. Brian is also assigned to the SWAT team where he assists in perimeters and entry during various high risk operations. Brian is currently the Supervisor and Trainer for his department.

From 2009-2010, Brian worked with government research and development of K9 applications where he created and maintained programs of instruction for K9 applications. He trained K9’s in control, human scent discrimination tracking, searches, and narcotic and explosive odor training and implementation.

⚡️Billy Sawyer has 15 years of Law Enforcement experience that started with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in Jacksonville Florida. Billy was assigned to a Tactical Narcotics Unit that focused on undercover operations along with service of Search Warrants, Arrest Warrants, and Vehicle Assaults. He was also a fi****ms instructor for the department. In 2013, Billy became an officer with the Longmont Police Department and joined the SWAT team in 2014. He deployed as the primary attached K9 asset to the SWAT team. Billy resigned his position with Longmont PD in 2024 to train high-performance canine teams for the USASOC Multi-Purpose Canine Program.

Billy is passionate about the integration of police canines with SWAT. “There seems to be a disconnect between SWAT teams and K9 handlers along with their roles as they work together.”
