Long nails can break, which can be painful and lead to injury. They can also catch on things, which can tear the nail or wrench the toe. 🐕

☀️ Here are some tips for keeping your dog safe and cool in the heat:

🕶️Hydration🕶️
👉👉 Provide your dog with access to fresh, cool water at all times. In hot weather, water can evaporate quickly, so check on your dog's water bowl several times a day. You can also try carrying a dog-friendly water dispenser.

🕶️Shade🕶️
👉👉Provide your dog with a cool, shady place to lie down. You can use trees and shrubs for natural shade, or create a makeshift shelter with a tarp, umbrella, or pop-up canopy.

🕶️Exercise🕶️
👉👉Avoid strenuous exercise on very hot days, and try to walk your dog in the early morning or late afternoon when it's cooler. You can also check the pavement before taking your dog for a walk by placing your hand on it for a few seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

🕶️Grooming🕶️
👉👉Brush your dog's fur regularly and give them frequent cool baths to help their coat keep them cool. Make sure their coat is free of mats, bugs, and debris.

👉👉Cover your dog's paws with sandals or shoes when they go outside to protect them from hot surfaces.

👉👉Provide cooling mats and ice packs, use wet towels, or make ice treats. You can also try cooling coats and collars. Never leave your dog unattended in direct sunlight or in a closed vehicle, as heatstroke can be fatal.

June 1st marks the beginning of National Adopt a Cat month. Citizens of Edgar County and surrounding areas know that kitten season is in full swing. The Edgar County Humane Association has been very busy rescuing countless cats & kittens, and they need your help! Kitties of all ages are looking for forever homes, and are in need of various supplies and vet care. By adopting through this organization, donating financially, or volunteering-you can make a difference!

This summer, Dr. Hansel’s daughter will be doing select bath days for dogs at Wags & Whiskers! Our first one will be taking place THIS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5th. This is for existing clients of Dr. Hansel, and for baths only!! The prices depend on the weight of your dog, and are as follows:

0-25 lbs: $15
26-50 lbs: $20
50-75 lbs: $25
75-100 lbs: $30

These baths will be CASH ONLY! 💵 No debit, credit, checks or care credit will be accepted. When you call to schedule you will be given a drop off time, please adhere to this time as she will be doing multiple baths in a day. Call us today to schedule your dog for a bath, spots are limited! 🐶🧼🫧
