[DAY 629 MISSING] Yesterday, a handful of you amazing people sent me a podcast episode that aired on The Toast.
On the episode, the hosts read an anonymous letter from a listener who was asking advice about what to do about her dog. This listener shared she recently adopted a dog, who she is calling “Theo”, from a reputable shelter about 14 months ago. However, recently, she came across a social post of a picture of a dog that looked eerily similar to the dog she adopted. She quickly deduced this WAS the dog she adopted, realizing that the previous owner was searching for him and the dog she had adopted was lost by the previous owner, eventually landing at the animal shelter, which she then adopted the dog from.
There’s no way to know for sure if this is Zorro. But there are too many similarities in her story / timeline to my story and Zorro’s dissapreance timeline, that I cannot ignore this potential lead.
The podcast hosts advise the girl that she should keep the dog, but just give send an anonymous note to the previous owner to let her know the dog is safe. Regardless of if this dog is Zorro or not, this advice is enraging. I would hate for this new owner to have to give up a dog she also grew an attachment to - but to keep it with the knowledge it’s original owner is looking for him, hurting over his loss, searching every day for him, is almost as bad as stealing him outright. It would not be an easy conversation, and I really feel for the new owner, but it’s just shocking to me this is even a consideration that would cross her mind / would be the advice given from these podcasters.
I NEED YOUR HELP getting in touch with the podcast hosts. In the off chance this dog is Zorro, I would love if these hosts can share my side of the story to hopefully promote the new owner to reach out.
Please please please help me by emailing, DMing and reaching out to the podcast hosts. Share my story, my page, etc. with a plea they share my story on
[DAY 169 MISSING] I can't quite put in words how I'm feeling today. While we still cannot confirm Zorro is in New Jersey, we’re praying this lead is legitimate and that we receive a concrete tip soon.
If you are "The Couple" and you have my dog and know he's missing, please take a second to watch this video, to read my posts, and to truly understand what you’re doing to me and my friends and family.
I am thankful for the time you’ve spent taking care of Zorro. I am thankful you have made him a part of your family and have hopefully given him the shelter, love, and all the treats in the world that he deserves. But it’s time for him to come home. He needs us as much as we need him.
This video shows how much he is loved. It shows how much he loves us. It shows how he filled a void in our lives during a time a lot of us felt lonely and depressed. It shows how he bring happiness to each person who meets him. It shows his family and people who care so much for him. And it proves, we won't give up.
I'm going to keep searching until we find Zorro and bring him home safely.
[DAY 104 MISSING] On March 18, 2021 I dropped of my dog at a pet sitter’s house, who was hired via @Rover.com. For the next five days, the pet sitter provided false updates about my dog’s wellbeing. The day before I arrived home, the pet sitter texted me saying my dog JUST went missing. However, once I arrived back home, I stumbled across a missing dog Facebook post, with a photo of my dog, dated the day I dropped off my dog.
Fast forward to today – turns out, immediately after I dropped off my dog in Lakeview, IL at the pet sitter’s house, she drove my dog to her boyfriends in Waukegan, where he immediately got loose. She decided to lie to me in hopes of finding my dog before I got home, therefore, never having to tell me he was missing.
However, I am writing today to share the accountability also on Rover’s side, how they have failed to provide me the much needed support I deserved throughout the past three months, and what they need to do moving forward to make sure this never happens again.
My story is not a unique one – I wish it was. But instead, there are COUNTLESS of other stories of pet owners who have hired a sitter from Rover who has then lost their dog, killed their dog, abused their dog, trashed their house, stolen from them, and more. While each situation is unique in their own way, there are unfortunately some really shocking commonalities between each story –
‼️ In some situations involving lots of press or severe cases involving many medical bills and expenses, Rover offers a small amount of money to the owner BUT they pair it with a non-disclosure agreement, demanding the pet owner never share their story or a negative comment about Rover.
‼️Many pet owners who have been greatly wronged by a Rover sitter, have stated that the sitter is still on the Rover platform.
‼️Following a negative experience with Rover, Rover will at times reimburse you for the cost you paid to the sitter. However, in order to do this, they
[DAY 68 MISSING] – My dog went missing on 3/18 when my petsitter hired via Rover.com brought my dog to WAUKGEN, IL, an area totally unfamiliar to my pup, and “lost him”. We still do not have any confirmed sightings of my dog. Something isn’t adding up. Someone out there knows where my dog is.
I saw another dog momma write a post to the people who stole her dog. It’s taken me a couple days to write my own version of this because of the mixed feelings I have towards this person who may have my dog. It’s a mixture of anger, hurt, sadness, but I need to stay positive for the sake of myself and for my pup. We need to put out all the good energy right now, and if that means thinking my dog is happy with another family, let’s do it. He WILL come back eventually. I know he’s out there somewhere.
So, to the person who has my dog –
I hope you love him as much as I do.
I hope he gives you a reason to get out of bed each day and a reason you’re excited to come home each night.
I hope you’re bringing him on new adventures.
I hope he brings you as much happiness as he does for me.
I hope you’re letting him sleep in your bed at night.
I hope you’re teaching him new tricks.
I hope he’s filling the void in your life, like he did for me.
I hope you’re giving him all the treats in the world.
I hope you’re cleaning his ears, feeding him healthy meals, and exercising him.
I hope he has a community of friends and family he trusts.
I hope you’re giving him all the belly rubs he deserves.
And most of all, if you’re reading this, I hope you realize how much my dog means to me and I hope you return him soon.
