PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

It happens at least once a year, but we've had two kitties escape from their owners in the last month outside the clinic.

Please ensure that you have a carrier for each kitty you're bringing in that day, and that the carrier is in good shape and securely fastened. The kitties should stay in their carrier the entire time between leaving the house and not be taken out until they are securely in the exam room, and then the same for the trip home.

Kitties when they come to the vet are scared, not in their normal place, usually getting unpleasant pokes, and can easily slip free from arm holds and cars if not secured in a carrier.

While we do our best to catch the kitties once they slip loose, cats are difficult to catch, and are well suited to blend into the trees in the surrounding property.

Have old towels?
Want an excuse to buy new towels?

We are asking for towel donations! (We do not need sheets or blankets!)

Towels can be stained, have bad designs, be old school tacky, and don't worry about matching the decor! We just ask that they be clean, and no holes!

Thank you for anything you can spare!
(Towels can be dropped off any time we are open!)

4TH OF JULY CLOSURE

We will be closed Thursday, the 4th of July, to celebrate the holiday.

Please make sure to pick up any medications or food you may need before the office closes on the 3rd at 5pm.

Please make sure to follow some simple safety precautions for your dogs / outdoor animals for the holiday! If they have noise phobias / storm phobias, keeping them indoors or picking up anxiety medication can significantly help them.

Make sure collars have identification tags on them that are up to date, or if they are microchipped that the information is up to date.

We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

With the upcoming 4th of July holiday, we encourage you to make sure that your pets are Firework Ready!

This means that if you have a pet with storm/thunder/noise phobias, we make sure that they have some anti-anxiety/calming medications on hand, update tags/collar information, or make sure their microchip information is up to date, and they have a safe indoor area to be kept secure in during the loud festivities over the holiday week/weekend.

Please let us know if you need to pick up any medications for Fido or Kitty before the holidays hit!

Does this little guy belong to anyone out there??? He was found at the State Farm Office parking lot, under a car, with his tail pretty mangled. He did have a flea collar on, but no microchip. We are hoping to find his owner. We are planning to do some surgery on the tail tomorrow....
Please call us at 573-431-9500 if he's yours!

Happy summer everyone!

We want to remind everyone that we will be CLOSED on SATURDAY the 25th and MONDAY the 27th for celebration of Memorial Day.

Yay, summer time! Warm weather! Outdoors!
.. TICKS!!! 🙀

We are currently offering instant rebates on several of our flea and tick preventatives!

For our doggos - Nexgard (the monthly chewable) has instant rebates of $35 off of 12 doses, or $10 off of 6 doses. An individual dose of Nexgard is $30!

We also offer both topical and chewable Bravecto (a 12 week (3 month) dose) with an instant rebate of $10 off of 2 doses (same size).

Bravecto is available both for dogs (chew and topical) and cats (topical only) and is $60 per individual dose (which lasts for a full 3 months!)

We also carry the Credelio tablet for our kitty cats, which is a monthly tablet, and it runs $20 per dose.

Ticks not only make us squirm and yuck and eeek, but are very important vectors of several serious diseases - not just for our furry friends, but also for humans!

So come pick up some protection for everyone today!

Today is World Veterinary Day, celebrated on the last Saturday in April.

Today is the day we think and appreciate the things that veterinarians do for us - not only in taking care of our companion animals, but also in food production and safety, and the enjoyment we get from exotic animals cared for in zoos.

For our part, we are blessed with three wonderful veterinarians to help our patients.

Dr. Crystal Harding started the Animal Medical Center nearly twenty years ago and has been a mainstay of veterinary care to so many people. Her bright cheerful smile and infectious laugh greets clients old and new.

Dr. Jennifer Daniels has been with us for nearly that long, and has become well known to many people over the years to care for their dogs, kitties, bunnies, and other little furry friends.

Dr. Jean Liljegren is a more recent addition, though she too has been with our clinic for many years. Her sunny personality comes complete with a green thumb, and she has made friends among our clients in her many downtime activities and hobbies.

We are so lucky to have such wonderful veterinarians in our lives. Please feel free to share any fond memories or stories in the comments below!

As we wrap up this week, we wanted to acknowledge something...

Veterinary Receptionist Week!

We are blessed at the Animal Medical Center to have four incredible Veterinary Receptionists and we want to highlight them here!

We literally couldn't do this job without their efforts, support, and magic with the front desk and phones!

DAWN has been with us since the beginning, and her caring demeanor and her sincere empathy for not only our patients, but our clients as well!, has earned her a favorite spot for many of those of us who call AMC our home.

TONYA has only been with us for a few years, but it seems like her bright and happy smile has been with us for longer! Her go-get-it-done attitude and quick witty remarks make her a fun coworker to spend the day with.

KENNEDY has also only been working with us for a little while, but since she and her family have been coming to us since she was a little bitty girl, it seems like she's always been with us. She brings a vivid energy to work with her, making the busy day feel like an easy breeze.

SONIA has only recently joined our team, and she's a welcome addition at that! Her down to earth and matter of fact take on anything that crosses her path helps keep you from feeling that the day is flying off the handle!

Without these four ladies, the day would be more difficult, more chaotic, more stressful, and certainly duller and darker.

We love and appreciate all four of you ladies as a group, as well as your individual beautiful selves.

Please feel free to share any happy memories or thoughts on our amazing Veterinary Receptionists in the comments below, so we can all celebrate how amazing they truly are!

With the weather becoming warmer and warmer as summer approaches, we just want to remind everyone about the dangers of leaving pets (or kids!) in your car.

Even on a 70 degree day, the temperature can rise inside your vehicle to dangerous levels rapidly. At 85 degrees, even in the shade with the windows cracked, the temperature can rocket to over 100 degrees within minutes.

The times people most often leave a pet (or kid) in a car on accident are: a change in your normal routine, or after work / overly tired. It can happen to anyone.

Have an easy reminder in plain view when you're leaving your car if you are traveling with a child or pet, so when you see it, you remember you have precious cargo that needs to leave the car with you.

If you see a child or pet in a vehicle on a hot day, try to find the owner of the vehicle, or call 911, and stay with them until help arrives.

03/30/2024

As a reminder, we are very busy, and are booking an average of 5 weeks out on routine appointments, and a few months on routine surgeries.

With the summer coming up, if you plan on BOARDING your pet, please know what vaccines are required by your boarding facility, and make sure to schedule an appointment to update any required vaccines before you need to head out to somewhere fun and exciting!

Have a great weekend!

Important General Reminders...

We are very (VERY!) busy, as are many veterinary clinics, and so if you're calling and it is our office hours, and we are open, but you keep getting a busy signal, please keep trying if you are needing to be seen, or need an appointment, or for any urgent care issue.

We are currently booking routine appointments out 3-4 weeks, and routine surgeries out 3-4 months! If you know you'll need an upcoming appointment for vaccines, or spay/neuter, etc, please call early to schedule!

We do hold Same Day/Urgent Care spots for DAY OF calls only, these spots are not filled in advance, and there are anywhere between 4-10 spots available per week day (exact amount depends on staffing schedules for the day), and 2 on Saturday.

These spots do go to the first ones calling in. We highly recommend if you have an urgent care issue, you start to call immediately upon opening (7:30 on M-F, and 8 on Saturdays) to try to schedule one of these same day appointments.

We do apologize that some people start calling as soon as we open, and either get a busy signal, or by the time they get through, all available spots are filled. We understand that it is frustrating! We promise, we do the best we can to see everyone who needs to be seen, but there are only so many hours in the day, and only so many staff members available to provide quality patient care.

If it is an EMERGENCY, please don't delay seeking medical attention waiting for an urgent care appointment, but seek emergency attention at any of the emergency centers in St. Louis, or try to schedule with any of the other local veterinarians if they have an availability and we do not.

We appreciate and thank everyone for their understanding!

Gentle reminder, as Easter approaches -- Bunnies and chicks are adorable, yes! And absolutely we love to see them at Easter and springtime, because what screams springtime and Easter except cute little yellow chicks and fluffy bunnies! ...

But... they are not just one-time gifts, they're living animals and they require care and tending, and attention from their owners to thrive. They can live (depending on breed/species) anywhere from 5 to 10 years.

Please think carefully before getting a bunny or chick for your kids or other family members this Easter season.

(Also, most Lilies are highly toxic to cats, no Lilies in the house if you have kitties!)

We wanted to thank everyone for their understanding and patience these last two weeks!

We were down two of our three doctors, one unexpectedly, and so our always busy schedule was overfull at times! We did our best to accomodate everyone we could, and apologize if we weren’t able to see your furry friend if you called in.

The patience of our patients and clients is greatly appreciated, and we will be back to almost normal starting next week!

We hope everyone has had a great Christmas and a Happy New YearYear! We look forward to what 2024 brings!

We have had several people ask about the emerging new respiratory disease in dogs that was showcased on the news.

To our knowledge our area has not seen any cases of this disease.

It is recommended to make sure your dog is up to date on their bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine as that is still the most common respiratory disease we see in our area, especially if your dog goes to dog parks, grooming salons, doggy day care, or boarding facilities.

We are keeping appraised of the situation and will let you all know if we are seeing it in our area.

06/24/2023

Firework weekend is fast approaching!
If you need anti-anxiety/mild sedatives for your favorite furry anti-firework friend, please let us know!

Other tips - make sure animals have a collar/microchip with updated information. Fourth of July weekend is one of the top weekends that our pets run away and get lost from fear.
Move pets indoors for the night, or in some other fashion safely secure them if they are outdoor pets.
Do not have pets that are NOT fireworks afraid loose while setting off festive fireworks, as they can get burned or injured if they chase or bite at fireworks.
