We all talk about having a regulated nervous system, but what does it actually MEAN? Here are a few things you can look for in your dog to see how regulated they might feel! 💕
(Bonus: these apply to humans, too!)
➡️Consistency eating. And to go a step further, a well balanced and variable diet is helpful! Eating helps fuel your dog’s body for all the adventures!
➡️Regular potty habits. We don’t like to talk about them, but your dog’s bathroom habits could be a huge indicator of if they’re feeling balanced and happy. Our digestive systems can tell us a lot about how our nervous system is feeling, and the same thing goes for our dogs!
➡️Getting that deep, good quality sleep is essential for a balanced and regulated nervous system. And I’m talking the dreams where your dog’s paws are twitching, they’re making grumbly noises, and you can just tell they’re feeling totally safe to sleep. Sleep helps restore neural connections in the brain, which is essential for learning and resilience.
➡️Speaking of resilience… how does your dog recover from a stressful situation? Are they bouncing right back, or can you tell they feel a little off? Resilience is a great indicator of how regulated they are feeling!
Take a few days to notice these things in your dog! And be sure to follow along for more helpful dog tips!✨
