One July morning last year, Brittany Foust was bringing horses in from the 30-acre field on her family’s property near the foothills of Boulder, Colorado, when she saw something was seriously wrong with one of the farm’s horses, Hog’s Hollow.

Mile High riders also had a great weekend! Many of our riders rode one day and volunteered the other- so thank you for putting in that long weekend!
In the Novice B division, Jacquie Schoeggl and Stellaluna (Luna) placed 1st, Carter Saunders and Pretty Penny (Euro) placed 3rd, and Hope Davis and Bella Magia (Hilde) placed 8th, all finishing on their dressage score.
In the Beginner Novice A division, Nicole Dole and 20 year old Tigger Yo Lo (Tiggs) finished in 5th place on their dressage score despite losing a stirrup and having to stop to put it back on in the middle of cross country. Sarah Hinnegan and D.B. Jack (Jack) had a great day, but unfortunately fell victim to the disappearing fence 8 plague in the BN division.
In the Beginner Novice B division, Anna Marek and Deanfield Ice Queen (Elsa- owned by Lynn Klisavage) placed 6th and Anna DeWitt and Sittin Smittin (Aspen) placed 10th, both finishing on their dressage score.
In the Starter A division, Hope Davis and Nouvelle (Fergie) finished in 12th, having some baby horse learning moments on cross country.

Wow. What an amazing weekend. We are absolutely thrilled that our first recognized horse trials ran as smoothly as it did. This of course is due to the hard work of an incredible team as well as to an amazing outpouring of support from the Area IX community who came out in force to volunteer.
A huge thank you to our fantastic officials and coordinators! Their work was absolutely essential to the success of this event. John Williams designed a beautiful course that rode so well at all levels. Show secretary Heather Peterson organized all entries ahead of time to make sure everything was good to go at the show. Carol Jones did a fantastic job of recruiting, organizing and delegating volunteers so no area was left unmanned. Kayla DeHart and Scott Wehrli were amazing at turning an abundance of information sheets and data into live scores and placings. Vivian Van Buren, aka “the voice of God,” kept cross country running safely and smoothly all weekend. Technical Delegate John Clay spent days before the show ensuring cross country jumps and all other aspects met all specifications, helped to coach jump judges during the show, and overall was a huge positive asset who helped athletes and volunteers alike and ensured the show ran smoothly. Deeda Randle wore several hats this weekend as dressage judge for training, stadium jump judge and president of ground jury and was absolutely essential to ensuring our show ran as smooth as it did. Thank you team!
This show was hugely successful because of our volunteers this weekend. Many Mile High boarders stepped up big time both this week and weekend, going above and beyond. We are so lucky to have such an amazing group of boarders. Many volunteers rode one day and volunteered the other. We recognize that makes for a very long weekend so thank you! Several past boarders and friends also came back to volunteer this weekend, but we also had many volunteers who came out to support who had never been to Mile High before and that’s what makes this Eventing community so special. Thank you so much for your support and help in ensuring the success of this show!

Special Award for Mile High Horse Trials:

I’m pleased to announce we will be giving a special award to the oldest horse to finish on their dressage score this weekend.

The incredible Jenny Slade has agreed to donate a portrait of your special horse that you can frame and keep forever.

This award is in memory of boarder Jodi Green’s horse Carbon Copy (CC) who in her last year at the ripe age of 27, finished on her dressage score in 5 shows and was CCC Beginner Novice Champion in 2017. This award seeks to celebrate all the older horses with huge hearts that refuse to quit.

The winner of this award will be announced after the show ends and we’ve determined the winner.

I will be going based on the year of birth listed on the entry. Let me know if that is not correct.

If you’re still reading because this applies to you, let’s celebrate your older horses (over 15) who will be competing this weekend by posting their age, name and anything else you’d like to say about them in the comments below.
Edit: It seems I can't figure out how to let visitors post pictures on this business page. If you'd like to share a photo of your golden superstar, feel free to message me their picture and I can post it under your comment.

The fantastic Zina Balash will be our photographer for cross country this weekend! Look for her out on course and then make sure to follow her page to relive the memories and purchase your favorites when the photos are posted.

She will be posting images as she finishes editing each division on her website - www.zbalash.zenfolio.com - pictures will all be featured by division, as well as in a gallery labeled "Mile High Horse Ranch Horse Trials.”

Below are some of her photos taken previously at Mile High.

Some logistics for this weekend (information is included in your packet as well):

Check in and course walking will be open from 3-6pm on Friday.

Course maps will show warm-up areas, water sources, trailer parking, port-o-potties and the horse walking path.
-Dressage warm-up is in indoor arena (walk in with your horse through the north door- not through the barn. Please yell “door!”). As your time approaches, you may finish your warm-up next to the dressage ring in the grass.
-Both stadium jumping and XC jumping warm-up is located next to the jump arena. XC jump entrance will be at the bottom of the hill by the road (finishers will be coming through the main gate to the field).
-Please no horses in front of the barn at any time. Horses should take the scenic route marked on the map, past the manure pile west and then north of the barn.
-We have water sources but none are super close to the trailer parking- we encourage you to bring your own water.

Parking:
-Trailers will park in the upper pasture- drive past the barn and up past the dressage ring
-Volunteers may park by the barn. We encourage jump judges to bring their cars out to the cross country field for judging.
-Spectator parking will be in different areas. Please save the spaces next to the barn for volunteers. A parking director will help you find your spot.

Other:
-Please only lunge in the upper pasture where trailers are parked
-Dogs must be on a short leash at all times and please pick up after them.
-Thank the volunteers- without them, this wouldn’t be possible.
-Have a fun day and a safe ride at Mile High!

Mile High Horse Ranch’s Inaugural Event is almost here! Thank you to all of you who have signed up to compete and to volunteer!

We could still use some more volunteers. Today, help is needed for general set up, Wednesday for stadium set up. Saturday we just could use a couple more volunteers but Sunday we have a few more slots to fill. Even if you can help out for a short time, your help is invaluable.

These hours count for year-end awards for CCC! Volunteers earn one free schooling at Mile High!

Sign up at: http://www.eventingvolunteers.com/ (Yes, you need to create a login. No, its not hard.) Or contact Lynn for set up this week or Carol for fill-in shifts.

Thank you! Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!!! 🏅🐎❤️
