🗳️🗳 Don't forget to get out there and vote!!

📬 Colorado voters are being asked to decide on creating a new regulated veterinary professional, Proposition 129. Proposition 129 is being touted as an advanced career path for veterinary technicians but there are many unknowns about this newly proposed profession that may detrimentally impact veterinary care in Colorado.

🚨 Here are some FAQ's about Proposition 129 and why it could impact veterinary care:

Why Is Proposition 129 Dangerous For Colorado Pets?
-Proposition 129 is dangerous because it would let inadequately trained individuals, known as Veterinary Professional Associates or VPAs, perform surgery on your pets. A VPA would have minimal training through a mostly online course and a one-semester internship. This measure misleads voters into thinking it enhances accessibility and lowers costs. In reality, it endangers your pet’s health and exploits students who may face limited job security.

-Pets and pet owners shouldn’t be guinea pigs for risky, profit-driven vet care that puts pets at risk and puts Colorado at odds with federal regulations and state laws that protect animals in 43 other states.

💜As we approach the holiday season, consider getting your pet microchipped. With all of the traveling, guests coming in and out, doorbells ringing, celebratory sounds, pets are at a higher risk of slipping out the door and running off.
Pets who are microchipped are 52% more likely to be recovered and reunited with their owners.
If your pet is already microchipped, now is a great time to make sure the information you have on file with the provider is up to date!

As we wrap up National Veterinary Technician week, we wanted to talk a little bit more about Proposition 129 from a veterinary technician's point of view and how it could effect their career.

Did you know we have a credentialing association here in Colorado specifically for Veterinary Technicians? We do! It's called the Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians (CACVT).

Here is their position statement on the VPA profession that is being proposed with proposition 129 and how it not only impacts your pet's health and safety, but how it could be detrimental to veterinary care as a whole.

Check out what the CACVT has to say:

Over the past 5 years, CACVT has been involved at every step to redefine accessible veterinary care and promote the safe, effective utilization of RVTs. Colorado voters are now being asked to decide on the creation of a new regulated veterinary professional. Proposition 129 is being touted as an adv...
