The Elk fire is a beast. Firefighters of all stripes have made heroic efforts to safe homes and property, including our place. It’s going to take a good snow storm to put this sucker out. Please stay safe everyone.

A few images from our trip to Austria. We landed in Vienna at the start of a historic rainfall and flooding event that stranded us in the city for a few extra days. We couldn’t get out by train, bus or rental car because of flooding, eventually we were able to fly out to Innsbruck and on to Sankt Sigmund. Snow in the Alps kept us from going too high, but still, the Alps were beautiful, and kicked our asses at times hiking. I can’t say enough great things about Alpine Apartments In Sankt Sigmund. If you want to see a beautiful, yet uncrowned part of the Alps go there. Brooke at Alpine Apartments was an amazing host, so helpful in all respects. Tomorrow we start our journey home, I can’t wait to see all my dog friends again next week.

This weekend was a reflection on the passage of time. I hung out in a 3,000 - 5,000 year old Bristlecone pine stand, oldest known living organisms. Then I climbed a rock glacier, all in Nevada of all places!

It’s always a thrill for me to run across a horned lizard. They have reportedly been in decline for decades. The dogs have never shown any interest in them at all. I guess because they have sharp spines that, if caught, they can sink into flesh. They also can sq**rt foul tasting blood from their eyes! Horned lizards are one of the few reptiles that give birth to live young. They are also the Wyoming state reptile. Here’s to the h***y toads.
