Adoption update (we love these SO MUCH 💖) "We got our daughter a kitten from you at PetSmart Flagstaff. She has always wanted a kitten so we finally made her dream come true. Athena and my daughter are best friends. The cat just loves my daughter so much. She doesn’t bite or scratch her just gives her so much love. They are the perfect match. Athena also has some dog sisters and they love playing. We are so blessed to have such a sweet cat. Today is her 1st birthday!"

We received an amazing grant from Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff last week at a great event at the Flagstaff Elks Lodge. This grant will help the Ark Cat Sanctuary provide necessary medical care to rescued cats and kittens so they can be adopted into permanent loving homes. Our sincere and heartfelt thanks to the ACF of Flagstaff and the Ernest & Evelyn Chilson Fund for helping us rescue and care for cats and kittens in our community! 💕🐈💕

Pets Enrich Out Lives specialized license plate is available for a $25 initial application fee/ $25 annual renewal fee. There are no special requirements- this plate is available to everyone! May be ordered online at https://azmvdnow.gov/plates. You can even personalize it with a maximum of 6 characters.

Also available with a disability symbol.

$17 goes to a special fund for spaying and neutering of animals, part of a grant which the Ark applies for each year.

PLEASE do not refer to a friendly cat as "feral" simply because he lives outside. The word feral means the exact opposite 🔁 of friendly and describes temperament ONLY.

Feral DOES NOT refer to a cat who is:
❌ Dirty
❌ Ear-tipped
❌ Homeless
❌ Unaltered
❌ Injured

🤔 A feral cat can be all those things, but those things don't make him feral.

❗️ The words feral and friendly describe temperament ONLY ❗️

Feral DOES refer to a cat who is:
🐈‍⬛ Unhandleable
🐈‍⬛ Unsocialized to humans
🐈‍⬛ Fearful of people
🐈‍⬛ More comfortable visiting at night

You may be asking yourself, "What difference does it make?".

Since adult "feral" cats are not socialized to people, they are likely to be euthanized if brought to shelters, so it is in their best interest to continue living outdoors. TRAP NEUTER RETURN is their best option for a better life. "Friendly" outdoor cats who are thriving and don’t have identification indicating they are lost can be fixed and returned to their outdoor home or fostered and adopted after a stray hold period.

Here’s something that we don’t see at Ark very often, two black Manx kittens!

Falafel and Matzah Ball are a brother/sister duo who are two laid back, calm lovebugs. They are not bonded and can be adopted out separately. They have the cutest little booties! Matzah Ball had a severe eye infection upon intake and his eye is expected to heal in due time.

FLAGSTAFF! Urgent plea for temporary fosters: we are full up at the Ark Cat Sanctuary and getting more requests for help every day, many of which are sick and need urgent medical attention. We have multiple HEALTHY ADOPTABLE cats and kittens who are just waiting on a space to open up at our PetSmart adoption center to go up for adoption. Can you help us save another life by fostering adoptable kittens, moms, or single adult cats for a short time? Time in foster may range from 48 hours to a couple of weeks or so depending on how fast adoptions are going. Please call or text us at (928)613-2090 if you can help.

It is with heavy hearts we share the news that our good friend and cat advocate Pam Tharp died on Monday, July 29th. She was working hard to make things better for cats right up to the end. Her passing leaves an enormous hole in the local cat rescue partnership that will be impossible to fill. Pam has been rescuing cats and kittens and tirelessly working to improve the welfare of homeless cats with a can do attitude for decades. She was a force of nature with a great big heart as anyone who knew her can attest. She has worked with many rescues over the years including the Ark since 2012. In 2016 she personally fostered 110 kittens in her garage for Coconino Humane Society. Pam was a tenacious and dedicated person who never gave up advocating for cats and was involved in all aspects of the cat rescue community. She served on the Ark board for 5 years and continued to work with the Ark to save thousands of little lives even after she was no longer on the board. She was an incredibly bright business woman who helped write grants that supported every one helping cats in our area. Her latest endeavor is Cat Crusaders in Flagstaff. Even dealing with significant health health issues over the last year she was tirelessly raising money, brokering foster homes, finding homes for at risk cats and kittens and working to make things better for cats in our community.

She was a remarkable woman and a true cat hero who will be greatly missed.
