What does your pets toy really mean to them?

To a companion pet, a toy can represent various things depending on the pet's needs and personality. For many pets, a toy is a source of entertainment, providing an outlet for their energy and helping to stave off boredom. For dogs, toys often mimic hunting or prey behaviors, allowing them to express natural instincts in a safe and controlled way. For cats, toys can simulate hunting and stalking, satisfying their predatory urges.

In addition to play, a toy can also serve as a comfort object, providing a sense of security, especially during times of stress or separation. Some pets form attachments to specific toys, using them as a source of reassurance or as a familiar object when they are feeling anxious.

Overall, a toy represents a way for companion pets to engage with their environment, reduce stress, and maintain physical and mental well-being.

"Hi there. I don't know if you're the right person to tell this to but our golden retriever got her favorite food on the last day and she got a chew toy, which we could never afford for her. And it has made her such a happy dog.She stopped stealing our socks. So thank you for volunteering. And you made a difference in our life." E. Watts, Client

VOLUNTEER PROFILE:

Hi! My name is Carol Rini 😉

With over 10 years of experience in animal rescue, I am deeply committed to improving the lives of companion pets through volunteer work, education, and advocacy.

I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Board of a local animal shelter, assisting as a kennel worker at City Dogs Cleveland, working on fundraising for Tails From The City - Cleveland, and clerical work at Neighborhood Pets. I am deeply passionate about spay and neuter programs, believing they are a key solution to reducing the number of unwanted pets.

My passion for animal rescue is rooted in a firm belief that it’s a
multifaceted endeavor: when all elements work together, whether through shelter care, outreach programs and community involvement, positive and lasting change can be achieved for animals in need. 🐯

Currently, I am privileged to volunteer alongside Director Bob Stevens at Companion Pets of Cleveland and an incredible team of dedicated volunteers. Working under Bob’s leadership, I have had the opportunity to contribute to and collaborate with a passionate group committed to making a meaningful impact. ❤️

Companion Pets truly are good for the human soul. . .

Companion pets are often considered important for the human soul because they offer emotional support, companionship, and a sense of purpose. The bond between humans and pets can foster feelings of love, trust, and empathy. Pets provide unconditional affection, help reduce stress and anxiety, and promote physical activity through activities like walking or playing. Their presence can also alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation, giving individuals a sense of connection and emotional well-being. Overall, the connection with a pet can nurture a person's emotional and mental health, making them feel more grounded and content.

The smiles are endless, too!

Which do you prefer a cat or a dog?

I don't have personal preferences, but I can explain the appeal of both cats and dogs! Cats are often seen as more independent and low-maintenance, making them ideal for people with busy lives. Dogs, on the other hand, are known for being loyal, social, and great companions, requiring more attention and care but offering a strong bond in return. The preference really depends on what someone values more in a pet—independence or companionship.

The bond between two dogs can be incredibly strong and emotional. It often stems from shared experiences, socialization, and mutual care. Dogs, being pack animals by nature, tend to form deep connections with one another, exhibiting behaviors such as playing together, grooming each other, and offering companionship. This bond can also provide emotional support, comfort, and a sense of security, especially when one dog is feeling anxious or stressed. The dynamics of their relationship are shaped by their individual personalities, but the affection and loyalty they show toward each other can be a beautiful display of interspecies connection.

📣Hey Hey Hey. . . .

Let's let Legend and Liam know we're thinking of them today. Through the generosity of two of our loyal supporters Jean Tyszko Bolling and Jacqui Baker these two are being neutered through our "Spay it Forward" Spay and Neuter Sponsorship Program.

Legend is a 7mos old Lab/Pitbull mix who is happy-go-lucky considering the terrible situation he was rescued from. He's Mom's cuddle buddy. He is obsessed with his football and his favorite teddy. He's definitely food motivated and can be persuaded into anything with a treat.

Liam is a 3yr old German Shepherd who as loving and sensitive as his little face says he is. Mom says this ball of energy loves to take long walks and loves a good bone or Kong toy to chew to work off all the extra energy that remains.

Please wish these guys well today and through the next week or two of recovery.

Thank you PetFix Northeast Ohio, Inc. for your dedication to quality low cost spay and neuters. 👩‍🔬

A Call That Changed My Life

Back in March 2017 I got a text from a gal I met while serving as the Vet Chairman at a local Animal Shelter. She called and asked if I could take in the five puppies her dog had given birth too. She didn’t have the means to care for them properly. These pups came to me with Mange, a skin disease that needed oral medication and weekly baths. I didn’t know how I was going to do it myself, but I answered her call and rose to the challenge. Many of my friends pitched in and brought puppy chow, crates, toys and a big puppy bed. We had a fundraiser from Tupperware to help defray the cost of their vet visit.

This experience changed my life, I loved working with these pups, getting them healthy and socializing them to become the best dogs they could be. We adopted them to some awesome families who still send pictures and videos to this day. This is how my journey began how this rescue got started.
