Anyone looking for a solid older horse? Cisco is a grade gelding in his early 20s. He’s nothing fancy but more whoa then go. Great for the kids or grandkids to hop on, plow reins, not super sensitive to legs so not going to spin around and dump someone off.
We are excited to announce that Angelica has been released to go back to working and riding horses. We are working on getting caught up on our own but will be taking in horses for training come May!
The little grey mare in the beginning will also be for sale here soon after she has some more training. She is 6 years old and believed to be a quarter Arab cross.
Bux - First Time Moving Out Saddled
Horses raised with a solid foundation make starting them undersaddle a breeze. Proper handling from the beginning pays off in the long run when it comes to your horses future and your bank account. It is always quicker and easier to do it right the first time then it is to have to fix problems later down the road.
This is Bux moving out in a trot and lope with a saddle on for the first time on day1. This is what we like to see! No hesitation or fear, a smooth upward and downward transition without a single thought about bucking.
Hopper relaxed while getting hosed off after today's session.
Yearlings standing tied like pros!
Sage - day #14 "flagging around" This is something I do around their second time packing a saddle and before their first few rides. By flagging them off another horse in a larger area such as an arena they learn to move out and become soft and supple while wearing a saddle along with decreasing their energy. By decreasing their energy you are decreasing their drive to find comfort and companionship some where else. They are less likely to spook or bolt which in turn builds their confidence in having a saddle or human on their back.
*Plus the other horse I'm riding gets a good workout and some training at the same time*
Sage - day #4 short video of working on her w/t/c transitions. Sage is very smart however lacks a bit of a work ethic. She prefers to trot however we are working on both slowing her down (walk) and speeding her up (canter).
Sometimes training can consist of a leisure ride out.
Tonight I took Penny a 7 year old Molly out on her 16th ride. Worked on gaining more consistency with her neck reining. To mix it up a little we brought along Johnny a 6 year old John mule. Penny helped me teach Johnny how to properly pony in preparation to go on several packing trips over the next year.
So I guess you could say I took my asses for a walk!
EMM Mare Day: 1 (4/11/15)
Here is a short video of round pen work on day one. During pick up I opted not to have a lead rope put on along with the halter (however I think it would be nice at this moment).
Prior to roping her I worked on w/t/c transitions and getting her to turn and face which she was picking up on really well. Once roped she came around to the idea of giving to pressure, before too long she was seeking the relief and coming closer and closer to me.
