Summer break is over and show season is quickly approaching. Some of our riders are feeling the stress of getting back into "riding shape" after a long relaxing summer holiday.

"Contrary to popular belief, riding is not enough exercise to keep you fit. Riding can be a wonderful part of an active lifestyle which keeps you healthy. However, like any other sport, the demands placed on the body by riding create muscular imbalance.

This week we have encouraged our students to seek other extra curricular activities such cardio exercise and stretching to increase their stamina, flexibility, and strength.

Go for a walk/ jog, play with your hobby horse, go a few laps around the neighborhood on your bike. Stretch daily. All these things will add up and not only make you a better rider, but safer in terms of injury or as stated above, muscular imbalance.

As riders, younger children are best introduced to as wide a variety of equestrian disciplines as possible. There is plenty of time for them to specify as they mature and start to show clear strengths and tendencies. In the meantime, fostering a healthy sportsmanship and leadership attitude, and oth...

"There can be some confusion that needs clarification in some of the different types of seats, especially when riding toward fences. In all of these seats, you want to focus on not allowing your shoulders to get out in front of you and keeping your lower leg beneath you, and not allowing it to go forward or backward. "

Day 2 in the books!
Today I didn't take pics of the first group again..it's a theme. I made up some for pics during ba****ck riding later in the day. We learned how many feet are between trail/obstacle poles. We measured our feet to figure out how many heel to toe steps are required between walk, jog, and lope poles. Each rider will set up their own obstacle tomorrow with the correct measurement. Our afternoon "barnshop" lesson: identifying a few English and Western bits. Our mini competition: blindfold bit guessing game.
See everyone again tomorrow!

Great group of riders this week! Missed pictures of our first group 🙈. We practiced some Ranch Riding to practice for 4H State in our first group, and re-schooled safety seat/stopping using the pulley rein in our second group. Our afternoon "barn-shop" lesson: learning various horse leg protection discussing uses, benefits, and dangers. We had a mini competition on who could wrap the fastest polo. We followed up with poltice wrapping with help from the most sweet and patient of all horses, Lucy.
See everyone tomorrow!

Look at this an incredible group! Our second inner-barn horse show was graced by 19 of our talented riders, providing a perfect opportunity for them to hone their skills, create new experiences, and forge unforgettable memories. Kudos to our amazing barn family for their support in helping us host this awesome day.

Thank you everyone for your patience while we evaluated what programs we could offer this summer. Holly is feeling better and has agreed to host a few weeks of camp this year. (She has also returned for evening lessons for intermediate students.)

Intermediate Students - We have an awesome week planned for June 3rd through June 7th. Workshops, hands on demonstrations, mounted games, and a pizza party on Friday to celebrate all of our accomplishments. Sign up today - we have 4 spots left!

Returning campers, newly interested campers, and current beginner students -we are currently taking a poll of possible weeks we may be able to host a camp for you! We have a few students already interested in the last weeks of July and early August. Call us or send a text and let us know you would like to be included for those weeks!

Next project I think

This six-horse hitching post by Dan James eliminates time spent catching, saddling and tying horses individually before training sessions, and teaches the horses patience.
