Experience the old west as it was and still is as you pass through working ranches that were homestead on the early 1900's their weathered log cabins can still be seen and are often still in use, others are close enough for a great photo opportunity. Colorado's open range law permits ranchers to graze their cattle without boarders so you will often find them on the roadways or you may even get cau

ght up in a cattle drive as the ranchers move cattle from one pasture or paddock to another. Observing the rancher, his horse and dog working together is a real treat. Look along the sides of the road for sage grouse, in the open fields for pronghorn, down in the willows and streams for the bull moose, in the trees for the mule deer and on top of the ridge lines for the elk. There are also bald eagle and osprey nests, alpacas, horses and sheep, All this just on the ride into Williams Fork Lodging! Our place sits above all this at the end of the road and adjacent to public lands tucked beneath Copper Peak on the Williams fork range. Our elevation is roughly 8,600 feet. The view is breath taking, it's 180' takes in three mountain ranges many peaks, pastures, forest, ponds, the sun rise, as well as being one of the best places to be for a full moon or if you prefer the stars our view of the Milky Way is unobstructed and has no light pollution for outstanding celestial shows. Meter showers are spectacular from the hot tub. We live on the same property and are quite self sustainable, hunting, gardening, gathering wild berries and raising our own poultry meat. The guest house is constructed of concrete and rock this as well as high efficiency windows and takes full advantage of passive solar heat, backup heat and the hot water are then provided by wood via an out side boiler maintained by us. You are greeted with fresh eggs from our chickens. Dale offers fresh baked carmel rolls and other breads. We also have discounted passes to the hot springs!bask about photograph tours, workshops, and retreats. Every season has it's own special beauty, spring brings abundant wild flowers, contrasting greens of the pine, aspen and sage. New born livestock and wild life, thunderstorms and brilliant double rainbows. birds singing, chickens crowing and total silence are welcomed in summer. Our view of the fall colors are hard to match, the changing yellow, gold and reds quaking in the valley are quite beautiful. Winter white snow untouched by human and cobalt blue sky's are post card perfect and right out your window. You may get the feeling you'll be snowed in for months but not to worry as Greg is most likely already out plowing for your safety and convenience.

As we experienced last weekend, and with this week's incoming storm, winter in Grand County can be both beautiful, and challenging.

If you are a visitor seeking alternate routes or accommodations, below is information we hope you'll find helpful. We encourage visitors and residents alike to check www.COTrip.org before traveling throughout, into and out of the County for information about Highways 40, 34, 125, 9 and 134.

* YMCA of the Rockies (Snow Mountain Ranch) has kindly offered discounted rooms for those wanting and able to extend their stay. Please contact them directly for reservation information: 970-887-2152.

* Alternate routes out of Grand County include Highway 9 south to Silverthorne and I-70. Travelers should expect winter mountain driving conditions along the route, and be prepared for slow moving and stopped traffic.

* If you choose to travel Highway 9 south to I-70, be aware that most cell networks (Verizon most notably) don't have coverage between Green Mountain Reservoir and Silverthorne.

* If you choose to travel Highway 9 to I-70, we strongly encourage sticking to and avoiding smaller county roads. While mapping services like Google and Waze may suggest county roads as alternate routes, many of these are tertiary roadways and may not be plowed or maintained.

Lastly, as a general rule, please make sure you have plenty of water, snacks, blankets and other warm weather gear in the event traffic is delayed.

Safe travels everyone!

Although Colorado is certainly known for skiing in the winter, there are still plenty of towns that have a lot to offer if you're not up for hitting the slopes.

Tongue out Tuesday!❤️ Thanks to MoNikon!❤️ Poem by©️Jacquelyn Allsop 2023❤️

Tongue out Tuesday is here again
Doesn't the week go fast ?
I hope your day is going well
And that you have a blast.
No sooner do we turn around
That the new week is here
Soon it will be Halloween
When some will quake in fear.
But until then, I hope you find
Everything you seek
Just be aware that very soon
There'll be another week !

Remember you need this as well as a season pass or day pass!

Are you planning for a July visit to Rocky?

Mark your calendars and get ready! Timed entry permits for all days in July will be available to reserve on www.recreation.gov beginning tomorrow, Thursday, June 1 at 8 a.m. MDT.

Don't have a Recreation.gov account yet? Now is a great time to become familiar with the Recreation.gov webpage or mobile app and take time to create your account before June 1.

There are two timed entry permit options available to choose from: Park Access or Park Access+. For all details and to see a list of frequently asked questions, visit the park's website at go.nps.gov/romo/timedentry.

Plan ahead if you can, but also remember 40% of reservations are released the day before at 5 p.m. and you don't need a timed entry permit for the majority of the park before 9 a.m. (give yourself plenty of time to arrive) or after 2 p.m.
