I know you don’t mean to, but you’re probably making dog training much harder than necessary.
If you have a dog that struggles with reactivity, aggression, possessiveness, or even bratty behavior, and you’re allowing them to sleep on the bed with you/allowing them on furniture?
This action is holding them back.

Niku’s final pack walk in the books! 😩😭
He has done amazing on every single one of our pack walks and now we put all the finishing touches to wrap up his training with us!
Lulu has shown amazing progress when coming across other dogs these days! Will post more in our stories.
Proud of these two!
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I’m going to say it anyway.
Dog training is not JUST for “bad” or misbehaved dogs.
Dog training is for ALL the dogs!
Swipe through to read all of the reasons why your good dogs also need training! 💛
Happy Wednesday!
Lulu met the rest of the pack & did great integrating!
Niku has been doing so well on his walks overall and his slight reactivity he had is not even a worry anymore 🥳
Happy Monday!
Lulu’s first pack walk in the books! We got to see her reactivity in action & it’s all based out of fear & low confidence. While she did GREAT with our pack dogs, seeing other dogs walking is a huge trigger.
It’ll be fun to work through!
Mr. Niku has been killing it on his walks and hasn’t been reacting at all towards other dogs! 🥳🥳
This beautiful girl goes by the name of Lulu!
Lulu is a one year old German Shepherd & Lab mix, and she’s here to work on
-Reactivity towards dogs
-Leash pulling
&
-Separation anxiety
To name a few!
Her parents have another dog named Coco at home, going for walks with them together is a struggle!
We’re going to work through loose leash walking, socialization, and ensuring her and her sister can walk together!
Let’s do this, Lulu!
Happy hump day!
Niku has been rockin it on his walks lately & needing a bit more work..but definitely getting it down.
He met the rest of the pack & did great! 🥳🥳
Niku’s first pack walk in the BOOKS!
His parents mentioned that his hackles would shoot up when seeing other dogs & sometimes he’d start barking.
When meeting the rest of the pack today, he was interested and used his nose to check them out 🥳!
Niku rocked the first day! 🙌🏼🥩
Our first student of 2024!
This handsome boy goes by the name of Niku (which means meat in Japanese!) 🥹
He’s a 4.5 month old Lab, Mastiff, Pit, Shepherd, & Coonhound mix & he’s here to learn ALL the things!
We’ll be focusing on his leash training, basic obedience, building his confidence to be alone, socialization with both people and dogs, jumping up, and to stop picking things up from the ground…..to name a few!
We’ve been looking forward to working with this guy for a few weeks & now it’s game time!
Let’s do this, Niku!
A lot of you are asking: What is the difference between positive reinforcement and encouragement?
Positive reinforcement utilizes treats, toys, petting, and high (VERY HIGH) excitable praise (see: high-pitched exclamations of “Who’s a good boy/girl!?”).
Positive reinforcement is extremely beneficial when teaching your dogs commands or tricks.
But, if you’re wanting to teach your dog to:
• Ignore dogs on walks
• Ignore people on walks
• Be able to walk past something without being afraid
• Trim your dog’s nails
• Teach them how to swim, etc.
Encouragement comes in VERY handy!
Encouragement doesn’t utilize excitable praise or treats. It’s the use of dog psychology, energy, and, most importantly, patience and follow-through on our ends.
When we want to teach a better behavioral response, encouragement is the way to go.
Would you like to learn how to work with your dog using encouragement?
Let’s chat!

4 things to keep in mind when adopting a dog from the shelter or rescue!
I absolutely love and support the idea of adopting dogs, I also believe that anyone who does adopt should do so with the right knowledge.
Check out these 4 things to remember when adopting a dog 👉🏻 to help you AND your future dog have the best possible relationship.
Are you planning on adopting a new dog soon?
Let me know if you have questions about certain breeds and I’d be happy to help! 💛
We encountered quite a few reactive dogs on our walk today & you know who reacted back? None of these guys..that’s who! Proud of this crew 🥹👏🏼💛
You might not expect a dog trainer & behaviorist to say this, but you should adopt AND shop responsibly.
I am in absolute support of adopting dogs! I have a dog that I adopted myself — Fritter!
There are valid reasons for someone to say, “Adopt, don’t shop,” such as to prevent backyard breeding, countless amount of dogs in the shelter, but that doesn’t mean that all breeding is unethical.
There are many highly ethical dog breeders out there who can get you the right dog for you and your family.
A lot of unknowns come with adoption, especially for mixed breeds, and not everyone is comfortable with that.
We can train our dogs from day one of getting them, but genetic factors are outside of our control.
We shouldn’t shame people for wanting a puppy from an ethical breeder.
We also shouldn’t shame people for getting a puppy from a backyard breeder off of Craigslist because they probably didn’t know! (But let’s also ensure we do some good research from now on, k? 💛)
The best thing we can do is educate. Educate without judgment!
So, instead of preaching, “Adopt, don’t shop,” we can preach, “Adopt, AND shop responsibly”!
Mr. I’m reactive towards dogs isn’t so reactive after all! 😉
Mushu has been doing amazing, and he met the rest of the pack!
Every day he’s been showing more and more progress & it’s only just the beginning!

Nashville’s family and owners always had difficulty even attempting to take him on walks. He would bite the leash, jump up towards them, and very resistant to walk. When you initially get a dog, one of your first few thoughts are going on calm, relaxing walks together…right? Nashville, resisting to walk on a leash, had built a lot of pent up energy, and his ways of getting exercise were all high intensity. He never knew calm, structured exercise. It was clear that his family was pretty upset that they couldn’t walk him, so we worked hard to get him to a better place with the leash! In the first video, you can see exactly how Nashville would be the moment he stepped outside on leash. Resisting Hesitating Biting Being a little punk! It’s not easy for any owner to have to deal with! The second video shows Nashville walking with his dad (the same person in video 1), and what I loved the most was that he matched his dad’s pace. Nashville’s dad had an injury on his leg causing him to not be able to walk fast and without a small limp. Nashville stayed in tune with him, he made sure he wasn’t trotting ahead or pulling on the leash, and he stayed by his side. Within the past week so far, he has gone on walks with multiple family members and has been doing GREAT on walks! They’ve noticed that he’s calmed down tremendously, and they’re excited to keep going with his training! Proud is an understatement! Keep it up!!
Here is Stella’s before and after leash work! She doesn’t seem to pull hard in the videos, but believe me when I say….she’s a strong one! Stella is a determined pup and she definitely loves to challenge. She hasn’t had the opportunity to walk a bunch on leash due to her not having all of her vaccines yet, and catching a virus that prevented her from going anywhere outside of the house. Just as many puppies are, she’s curious, adventurous, and VERY confident! Slowly, but surely, she started to get the hang of how she should be on the leash, and it was smooth sailing once she got it down! Training puppies from the start is so crucial to ensure a well rounded, well mannered, balanced pup. Prevention - not intervention! Stella is a wonderful example of starting from the get-go. I’m excited to see her growth with us!
Here’s Miss Luna’s before and after leash work! Her mom has struggled with her walks constantly. It’s always a battle and competition between the two on who leads the walk. Luna is quite the puller, and not only that, she also loves picking up trash during the walk! Her mom has found walks to be really stressful and frustrating and sometimes that leads to her just not going. Walking your pup is supposed to be calm and relaxing on both ends. It isn’t supposed to be tiresome on your body and mind. Luna has gotten her way a lot throughout her puppy life so far, and teaching her communicative leash work was not something she wanted to do from the get go. Once she started to get into the groove of things, she became an excellent walker on the leash! Luna hasn’t attempted to pick up on piece of trash on the ground, and is definitely starting to understand what is expected of her while on a walk. This is just day 2 of Luna’s training, and we’re seeing such huge strides already. Keep it up, Luna!
Jax’s 2 week stay is sadly coming to an end. Our main focus while he was here was his fear of skateboards. Jax is the type to completely run away and never look back. Walking him on The Strand at Hermosa Beach can become a nightmare for both Jax and his owner due to his huge fear of skateboarders, and it’s hard to avoid them there. We did a ton of practices with him, and we got him to the point where he can tolerate being around one and hearing the sounds of skateboards. With that being said, that doesn’t mean Jax is “fixed” or “cured”. He absolutely still has a fear of them, and it is deeply deeply ingrained within him. As long as his owner can walk him and get him passed a skateboarder, that’s all that matters. We understand that many owners want their dog to be 100% fixed and fear free, but even us as humans that can be difficult. It’s important to take things step by step (paw by paw) and work slowly. Jax has accomplished so much throughout his 14 days, and we know it wasn’t easy for him at all! Despite that, he still kicked ass and confront his fears head on. We’re proud of you, Jax!
Here is how much Lancer has improved throughout his stay with us at Paw by Paw! We all worked super hard together, and the results were fantastic! All Lancer really needed in his life was structure, balance, consistency, and a whole lot of patience. He needed to understand that barking doesn’t get him what he wants.. He needed to understand that pulling wasn’t going to get him anywhere faster.. He needed to have his parents understand what HIS needs were..which they do now! Lancer has grown so much in just a short period of time. He went from naughty, pushy, and a vocal pup..to a well mannered, patient, calm pup. Thankfully for Lancer, he’s got owners who are committed to keeping up with his training and continuing to do better and be better every day with him. Keep it up, guys!
