My Story
I know that looking for a Havanese can be overwhelming. You don't know anything about the people or their breeding programs or whether or not they are a commercial breeder or puppy mill. To help with your journey, here is a little about me.
My name is Diane Tomasevich. I am a widow. My late husband Mark and I were married for 23-1/2 years before he passed from complications from Alzheimer's in 2013. He was my soul mate and I still miss him. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him. I am a grandmother as well. My daughter and her husband have blessed me with two beautiful grandchildren. I miss them a lot but they aren't too far away to visit.
After a bit of work, I was able to convince my husband to get a dog. After a lot of research I decided on a Havanese. A little while later, Winston joined our family. I called him my giant Havanese because he weighed well over 20 lbs. Winston had the most wonderful temperament. As my husbands disease progressed, Winston spent more and more time with him. Winston decided that Mark was his. As you know puppies have a lot of energy so I decided to get a second Havanese. I did a lot more research this time and found what I thought was a lovely dog from Hurricane Ridge. Apparently my research was good because I found a 'show potential' puppy. I decided to take the next plunge into dogs and that is how I got Mia.
Mia and Winston were the best of friends. As Mark's disease progressed, Winston became his therapy dog and Mia mine. It wasn't planned but that's how it worked out. Mark would sit for hours and pet Winston. I had hired help to stay with him during the day while I went to work and Winston would sit right next to Mark all day. When I got home, he was released to play and be a dog. For me, I began showing Mia in the ring. Well, not me personally but I did hire Dixie Rae as my handler. As a puppy Mia took Winners Bitch multiple times and Best of Opposite S*x. She took Best of Opposite S*x as well in the Havanese Club of America Regional Puppy Specialty in 2008. Mia earned her AKC Championship with 5 majors!
Winston passed away in 2014 at the early age of 8-1/2. It was a little more than a year after Mark passed. They are now together again.
I am now retired. To honor my husband, I am rebuilding my life and doing the things I enjoy. I have started showing dogs myself and no longer have a handler. I know Mark likes that part because it saves me some money. I will never be a big kennel. My dogs are members of my family and are not in kennels all day. I am a member of the Oregon Trail Havanese Club and the Cascade Havanese Club where I am serving as president. I strive to produce consistent and exceptionally nice dogs. Feel free to call and come and visit my dogs and the environment we live in. I hope that you consider Lúdico Havanese for your next puppy.
