Hey everyone! Lots of great feedback on what you want in a broke horse, and I’ve noticed a few common themes. Here are some of the things I focus on (highly condensed):

• Safe on the ground
• Loads/unloads easily
• Ties calmly without anxiety
• Easy to saddle
• Able to move all body parts without resistance
• Transitions up/down with subtle cues, no resistance
• Clear understanding between accelerating leg and yielding leg
• Safe to be around
• MOST importantly, a willingness to try anything I ask!

It’s been a month since a quit my “stable” job and persuaded the horses full-time, here’s what I’ve learned:

1. Following your passion is daunting and mentally taxing, with moments of midnight panic – take the leap anyway.

2. Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals is crucial for keeping the fire burning and pushing forward. (Thanks to all those who support me, big and small)

3. Success in anything demands a lot of hard work, but it’s a whole lot easier when you love what you’re doing. My days seem to fly by now that I’ve found joy in the grind.
