So many of you have been following Becca’s story which is a testament to the resilience of the horses we rescue and the power of compassion to create change. Watch till the end for her today!
This 31-year-old Arabian mare came to Redwings in heartbreaking condition. After her beloved owner passed away and her family struggled to provide care, Becca was left severely emaciated with a body score of just 1. She was weak, frail, and in desperate need of help.
When we arrived to rescue her, Becca’s spirit shone through her frailty. She eagerly hopped into our trailer as if she knew her life was about to change for the better. Over the following weeks, she began a strict refeeding program and received the love and care she desperately needed.
✨ Today, Becca is thriving!
Her coat shines, her eyes are bright, she has gained her weight back. She loves her scratches. Watching Becca gallop through our sanctuary with strength and joy is nothing short of miraculous. Her transformation is a reminder of why we do what we do—and it’s all made possible by supporters like you.
As we celebrate Becca’s journey, we invite you to be part of more incredible transformations this Giving Tuesday. Your generosity provides horses like Becca with the care and second chances they deserve.

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that celebrates generosity, kindness, and the power of community to make a difference. It’s a day when people from around the world come together to support causes they care about.
At Redwings Horse Sanctuary, Giving Tuesday means hope for horses who have endured unimaginable hardship, like Gwen and Heartbreaker.
Gwen’s Story:In the fall of 2022, Gwen was surrendered to Redwings after her elderly owner could no longer care for her. Gwen was in terrible shape—emaciated with a body score of 2 and hooves so overgrown they curled up, making it painful for her to walk. Thankfully, her owner recognized Gwen’s need for help, and we were able to bring her to the sanctuary. With proper nutrition, care, and hoof trimming, Gwen has been given a new lease on life.
Heartbreaker’s Story:Heartbreaker, a 35-year-old Arabian, endured years of neglect and cruelty. On the 4th of July 2023, he was discovered chained in the Southern California desert with no food, water, or shelter. Emaciated and discarded, he was rescued by Animal Services and brought to Redwings thanks to the intervention of a compassionate former board member. During his time with us, Heartbreaker received the urgent care he needed, including dental work, blood tests, and a carefully monitored refeeding program. His courage and resilience remain an inspiration.

This Giving Tuesday, join us in giving the gift of hope, healing, and a brighter future to horses in need. To
In the summer of 2022, Duquesa was rescued from heartbreaking conditions in Kings County. Emaciated and suffering from neglect, she bore the physical and emotional scars of her ordeal. Most shocking was the embedded halter on her jaw—left on for so long that her skin had grown around it. A vet had to carefully cut the halter away, leaving painful, infected wounds.
On top of this, Duquesa was battling a urinary tract infection and a severe case of rain rot. Yet, despite all she endured, her gentle and loving temperament never wavered.
Now safe at Redwings, Duquesa is thriving and quickly became a favorite among staff and visitors alike. Her resilience reminds us why we work so hard to give horses like her the second chances they deserve.
This #givingtuesday , your support helps horses like Duquesa heal and find love in a safe, nurturing environment. Every donation and share makes a difference. 💕

Giving Tuesday is tomorrow, and we’re excited to share the amazing transformations that your support makes possible. Becca’s journey is just one of many. Horses like Alley and William have overcome impossible odds and are now thriving thanks to your generosity. 🐴💕
William:William was discovered tied on a short chain in the blazing heat, completely emaciated and covered in fungus. Despite his condition, including a grade 5 heart murmur, William’s will to live was undeniable. With round-the-clock care and a dedicated refeeding plan, he made an incredible recovery, going from a body score of 1 to 5 in just six weeks. William now enjoys galloping around our sanctuary, full of energy and joy.
Alley:Shortly before Christmas 2023, Alley, a 30-year-old mare, was rescued alongside her donkey companion Daisy after being abandoned. Alley was emaciated, with a body score of 1, her coat falling out due to lice, and her hooves overgrown. Weak and frail, she faced numerous medical challenges, including colic and ulcers. Through weeks of intensive care, a carefully managed refeeding program, and constant love, Alley defied the odds. Today, she’s stronger, healthier, and living her best life at Redwings.
These transformations remind us why we do what we do. Becca, Alley, and William’s resilience inspires us every day, and your support makes their new lives possible.
How You Can Help This Giving Tuesday:Your donations help us provide life-saving care, veterinary treatments, and safe havens for horses in need.

🍂 **Kicking Off the Week Before Thanksgiving with Gratitude** 🍂
As we begin this season of thanks, we at Redwings Horse Sanctuary are deeply grateful for our incredible supporters who make our life-saving work possible. 💕
This week, we’re sharing the story of Becca, a 31-year-old Arabian mare who came to us in desperate need. After her family fell on hard times and her beloved owner passed away, Becca was left with little care and became severely emaciated, scoring just a 1 on the body condition scale.
When Becca arrived at Redwings, she was weak and frail, yet her spirit remained strong. She stepped into the trailer as if she knew she was heading toward a better future. With a carefully managed refeeding plan and plenty of love, Becca is now on her way to a full recovery. Her incredible resilience inspires us every day. 🐴
As we head into #givingtuesday Tuesday, we invite you to join us in giving second chances to horses like Becca. Your support makes stories like hers possible, and for that, we are endlessly thankful. Stay tuned this week as we share more about Becca’s journey to health and ways you can help us continue this life-changing work!

Kazansky, or “Kaz” as we like to call him, is one of many Thoroughbreds we’re honored to help at Redwings. This sweet little guy was retired fall of 2022 after racing seven times with a record of 1 win, 1 second, and 2 thirds. While his career earned him just shy of $14,000, Kaz’s owners felt it was time to give him a fresh start outside the track. Fortunately, thanks to supporters like you, Kaz now has the opportunity to find a second career through Redwings’ OTTB program.
Kaz is a compact, healthy gelding with a great temperament – and he’s ready for a new home where he’ll thrive. He has no known retiring injuries and, after some time in our care, he’ll be a wonderful addition to any barn or family looking to offer a deserving Thoroughbred a second chance.
As we approach Giving Tuesday, we’re reminded of the importance of your support in making stories like Kaz’s possible. Redwings is proud to be accredited by both the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA)and CARMA (California Race Management Account), and we were recently honored to receive a generous grant from the Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) to further our mission of rehabbing and rehoming retired racehorses.
Since 2014, we’ve worked tirelessly to provide a safe, loving environment for Thoroughbreds like Kaz. We’re committed to helping these beautiful athletes transition into their next careers – whether they become pleasure horses, jumpers, eventers, or companions. Thanks to your support, we can continue this vital work and ensure that more horses like Kaz are given a second chance.
How You Can Help:
This Giving Tuesday, you can make a difference in the lives of retired racehorses. Every donation, large or small, helps us provide care, training, and support for horses in need. Join us in giving back to these incredible animals who have given so much to us.
Let’s make this Giving Tuesday the best one yet for Kaz and all the horses we care for!

Happy Veterans Day to all who have served, from everyone at Redwings and Uncle Buck! 🇺🇸🐴
Uncle Buck came to Redwings in the summer of 2022. Buck was a member of the Military Working Horses at Vandenberg Space Force Base for almost 12 years. Due to a long and much-appreciated career, it was time for Buck to retire after being diagnosed with arthritis and a bone spur. He was an excellent service horse with a calm temperament, and he served with the 30th security forces squadron in the United States Airforce. Buck received a full retirement ceremony, complete with being awarded a medal for his service and a certificate of Retirement.
Buck is a permanent resident at Redwings, having earned a good retirement. He has joined Little Bit and Primo as a Redwings Ambassador Horse.
Today, we celebrate all the brave men and women who have served our country. Thank you for your sacrifices and service!

🐴✨ Giving Tuesday is coming up on December 3rd! This year, you can help us continue rescuing and caring for special horses, donkeys, and even zonkeys!
Zonkey’s journey hasn’t been easy. Rescued from an abusive home as a young zonkey, he endured severe trauma, including a dog attack and injuries that left him with missing teeth and part of his ear. After years of living with a donkey companion, he faced abandonment when his owner’s health issues left him alone on the ranch. But thanks to supporters like you, we were able to give Zonkey a second chance here at Redwings, where he’s now thriving with our donkey herd.
Zonkey is an adorable cross between a donkey and a zebra. He is not as heavily striped as some other zonkeys, but he does have some stripes on his legs, around his eyes and mouth and his head is shaped like a zebra’s.
This Giving Tuesday, your donation will ensure that more equines like Zonkey receive the care, medical treatment, and loving home they deserve. No gift is too small to make a difference!
🗓️ Mark your calendars: November 28th
