WORKING PROSPECT seeks 🏡

Somebody has the handling skills to match their ISO list. So many say they want a HIGH (incredibly high) drive dog, and I've been sitting on this one for over a year with zero interest from working homes.

Where are my working dog handlers? Are you guys really going to let some fluff stop you? This dog is a machine. Would be a phenomenal detection or SAR dog if aggression isn't an issue (and it shouldn't be if you're a qualified handler). He wouldn't mind the sport, either and would be a ton of fun on the field.

Over the top drive, lightning fast strike (don't put a ball on a string under your arm unless you're looking for a unilateral mastectomy - ask me how I know), extreme possessiveness. He's NOT a novice - friendly dog- but he's sensible, stable, and absolutely manageable if you have both skill and brains.

Medium sized, good size for disaster SAR, very healthy. Loads of tenacity. He'll keep hunting til he finds it, whether on land or in the water.

This is a dog with so much potential. He is utterly wasted here, though at least he's safe. But there just has to be someone who could do something productive with this creature...can social media help me find them?

I'd be creative on pricing, even lease him to guarantee I can take him back if he's too much. He will always have a home here, it would be so good for him to have his very own job and person.

Very nice dog available, but you must be as smart as or smarter than him and have an understanding of a proper relationship between working dog and handler. I've met this guy and really like him, if you are local to me I am willing to help you with him.

Good explanation of the relationship between dog and handler.

🐾 The Unseen Bond: The Pathway of Communication 🐾

At Unrivaled K9, we understand that the connection between a handler and their dog is more than just commands and obedience – it’s a language of the heart and mind. This bond begins in the mind of the handler, flowing seamlessly through their body, down the lead, and into the heart of the dog.

But communication is a two-way street. As handlers, our duty is to understand and interpret the messages our four-legged partners send back to us. Every aspect of our interaction – from our body language, emotional state, grip on the lead, to the very environment we share – forms words in this unspoken language.

Remember, it’s not just about walking your dog; it’s about advocating for them, understanding them, just as they have done for us for centuries. When in public, whether strolling through your neighborhood, visiting a park, or stepping into a store, staying “5-10 seconds ahead” in awareness makes all the difference.

🌟 Our goal? To create a perfect symphony where both two-legged and four-legged move in unison, each complementing the other’s strengths and compensating for weaknesses. This harmony is the essence of the bond we cherish at Unrivaled K9.

REHOMING/ADOPTABLE:

Currently in Illinois but can be transported. 4-year-old working line German Shepherd male seeks responsible owner who can provide the leadership he needs. Very well bred, stable temperament, just has not had the kind of leadership he needs which led to problems with the dynamic and thus breeder and owner collaboratively decided on the need for a new home.

He needs some very minor work, but a very calm, confident and stable, solid dog in general. Main issues are manners/bad habits - frankly, I can't believe he hasn't caused a car accident with his abominable vehicle behavior that clearly he's been allowed to get away with for 4 and 1/2 years ...but I digress. I tether him in the vehicle but apparently he's been allowed to bark and wander around the vehicle. 🤦‍♀️ That's really it. In the 3 weeks I've had him I've found nothing else wrong with him.

If you've got some time, patience and skill, I am certain he could be an incredible partner for the right person. A great opportunity for somebody with the dedication and desire for a working dog but not the budget. We have worked this dog and been very impressed with his nerves and environmental stability. This is a *really nice dog.*

An experienced person could manage him with other animals. He has been friendly to our chihuahua and cats. The cat tells me he's a good egg and the cat usually knows if a dog is friend or foe. He has lived with both dogs and outside cats, but without assertive leadership, so I'm going to say those interactions should be managed carefully during the transition/acclimation period. I would think that would be common sense, but the more inquiries I receive, the rarer I believe common sense to be.

He seems to really (really) like children and currently my 8th grader is his main handler while we foster him, but this is a powerful dog both physically and temperamentally and unless you have experience I'm going to say no small children, more as they relate to the environment in general and not because I am afraid he would harm a child. Parents used to handling working dogs and children simultaneously should have no trouble, but you must be able to multitask and be on your A-game. He deserves a real handler, not somewhere he's just background noise.

This dog will come with continued training support and Virtue Dog Food will supply his food at cost for life. A donation to K9 Victory Project is the only adoption fee.

‼️Please do not inquire if you have no experience with working dogs. He is a wonderful dog, but he needs more than just good intentions. Serious, private inquiries only. Thank you.

‼️‼️ EDIT: Please, save us both time and do not inquire if a 4 second Google search will reveal multiple criminal charges or that you currently reside in a mental health facility.

☕🐾

A dreary, miserable rainy day warrants a coffee date with this distinguished gentleman...and a lot of reflection.

Ralph is enjoying the finer things like pup cups and flannel bowtie collars from The Foggy Dog after a ridiculous and senseless 7 months in municipal shelters.

Why was this adorable and SO.WELL.BEHAVED dog in the shelter that long? Age? Probably part of it. Breed? Probably part of it. But my guess at the real reason? It was said that he had to be an only dog, even though he lived with his intact brother for their whole lives prior to being taken to the shelter after their family experienced hardship. You can probably imagine how few people that don't have dogs already say to themselves, "you know what, I think I'm going to change my entire lifestyle, go to the shelter and bring home an ancient Pit Bull." So there he sat. And sat. Until he became quite withdrawn.

We adopted him with the attitude that we would manage whatever was needed and if he had to be rotated for the rest of his life, so be it. That is certainly better than living in the pound until you stop getting reprieves from your euthanasia date. Well, it was immediately apparent after he settled in that he actually loves other dogs. Unfortunately for him and many many thousands of others, he was deemed dog aggressive.

So many dogs are unfairly branded dog-aggressive when ***what they really need is a handler they can count on to manage the environment so that they do not feel forced to manage it themselves.*** Read that again. And again until you are sure you get it.

The shelter is an extremely chaotic place and dogs are never going to be at their best in that environment, however, we still owe it to the dogs to give them their best chance. We are so appreciative the shelter he was in ( Burlington Animal Services ) for not euthanizing him despite his long stay. He was also very fortunate to have volunteers who loved him and continually advocated for him, like Haley Laurinda Easthom who pleaded for him in a post I happened to see, then drove him all the way from NC to IL. She very likely saved his life.

But what really nags at me is this- how many Ralphs out there don't get so lucky? We need to revamp the rescue situation. We need to educate owners, volunteers, shelter employees and adopters alike. On a daily basis I see dogs being given up for reasons that don't warrant rehoming. They simply warrant responsibility and management.

Society in general has foisted such unrealistic ideas about dogs on to people in recent times and I'm not sure it's demonstrated any clearer than it is in rescue. Dogs are dying both in rescue and in private homes because people simply do not understand dog behavior and how to manage it effectively and safely.

Put simply, dogs need handlers, not heroes.

UPDATE: CUKI HAS FOUND A HOME with his former kennel master!! Thank you for the shares!!

Mission K9 Rescue is looking for handlers that served in the kennels with this beautiful man in Okinawa, Japan.

MWD Cuki A215 is a retired Marine, who served for a brief time before obtaining a career ending injury to his leg.

We know that he was from the kennels at Camp Butler in Okinawa, Japan between 2018 and 2019.

Cuki needs a place to retire, and we were hoping to find one of his fellow Marines.

He is a sweetheart, who is good with kids and dogs.

If you are or know someone, who served with Cuki, please email [email protected].

DOB 8-28-2021

Ajax is a very nice young male, with plenty of drive and balance. 24" at the shoulder, 71 lbs and a great blend of the dogs you see in his pedigree. A stable dog that is a handler oriented easy to get along with and eager to please. Raised in our family since birth, this includes my 13 year old with ASD who can push anyone buttons, 2 or 4 legged.

He gets along with my older male (not like Dylan gives him any say in it😉) but will challenge a young male he views as a peer. Gets along with the females. He has plenty of time out in public and has shown good judgement around some sketchy people. Would make a great family dog for an experienced handler or someone that has a solid mindset and willingness to learn. He would also be suitable as a multipurpose dog that worked every day. Sport might be more difficult because of the PP training he has had.

This young guy has a lot of time and training in him. All of the standard commands are included on this model. On top of the usual sit, down, heel and here, he is a strong tracker and really enjoys detection work. He is clear headed in his protection work and shows a lot of cofidence, strength and power for such a young dog. I think he could do whatever you ask of him and be happy doing it. Sport might be more difficult because of the PP training he has had.

He is not the kind of dog that will be happy laying around. His mind and body both require work. He is definitely not "fur baby" material. Trust me it won't work out for anyone.

If he's so great why is he for sale you ask? I can only keep so many dogs and give them the attention and work they deserve. I have his brother here that I will be keeping although Ajax is the more handsome of the two. His siblings are doing sport and family protection.

Price is very reasonable. His pedigree is pinned on the top of our FB page.

Direct message for more details.

I have requested FB to change our page name to Discretion K9. Not being a regular breeder, we want to emphasize that training is our primary reason for being here. In the spring be on the lookout for group classes. We will also be offering board and trains on a limited basis.
