If this doesn't sum up life on our farm then I don't know what does!

Kenny told me the other morning, after he came home from work π¨βπ¬π¬, that he was petting one of the pigs and she rolled over to get some belly rubs and after about two minutes she fell asleep ππ€£ππ€π΄π²ππ³ππ²
Come on down to the @yellowspringsfarmersmarket take your chance with the βοΈ it's only 40%. We have pork chops back in stock πand bunches of fresh mushrooms πππ.
When Farmer Violet is on a mission she does not stop until that mission is complete! ππππ One of her favorite parts of the day is feeding the animals. She also enjoys eating some of the feed herself. She is partial to the goat feed, probably because it has molasses. π€·ββοΈπ
Chicken food and goat food usually end up in her diaper which is why you will usually see her full moon roaming around the property. ππ
Violet, Kenny, and I all partake in raising what we eat. (I know there will be explaining to do as she gets older.) It is a labor of love ensuring these animals are raised with care, freedom, and in an healthy environment. β»οΈπ±πΏππππ₯π
How much HOTTER can it get????

The hogs thoroughly enjoy being outside. They truly live the life of luxury. We have had the sprinkler on them for the last few days bc it has been π― degrees and all that water and many pig noses have created these giant mud pits... they LOVE it! πππ½β²π¦π§
The mud helps keeps the flies away, keeps them cool, and prevents them from getting sunburnt. Win-win-win... except for me at the end. I did not win. π€π€·ββοΈπΏ
Come see for yourself! (Mud bath not included. π€) Our first free farm tour takes place this Saturday from 2pm-4pm!

Any tips on how to handle the heat?
Violet has a few tricks... She lost her clothes and insists on wearing nothing but a diaper πΆ and sometimes even less than that... πππ
The chickens have been out and about keeping cool under the shade trees and eating a buffet of bugs and grass. Yes, you read that right. Chickens eat a lot of grass! (So do pigs! π½)

Our standards are Beyond Organic.
Being pasture-raised is more than free range, better than cage-free, and exceeds the organic confinement standards.

These girls have access to anywhere and everywhere on our farm.
They have done a great job of keeping all the spiders away from the house ποΈ π·οΈπΈοΈπ
ββοΈπ« ...even though they tear up the mulch at the front of the house π
Spiders in the country are enormous! So we will happy live without a flower bed... indefinitely.
Today we are preparing for more pigs and chickens arriving this week. π

And going to attempt to mow.. if the mower works. π€
I like to think that with every trip to the butcher we still bring more life to our farmstead than we do death. π±πΏβ»οΈ
Kenny and I grew up with dogs and cats and never had a second thought about what we were eating and what kind of impact it had on our bodies, environment, or the animal.
It's very rewarding and bittersweet to raise something yourself. Respecting it during it's lifetime, giving it the best life- a life full of sunshine, winds, bugs, grass, and dirt is what it is all about.
Today was a trip to the butcher. It takes a lot of prep work for the day...and it is truly a long and exhausting one-emotionally and physically. Loading the pigs is never easy and they really make us work for their π₯πͺ
Butcher day is a sad day. But, to keep farming we need to take the good with the bad. I'd like to think it makes us humble.
We also believe that our pigs had lots of really good days and one bad one.
Here is Kenny giving them a sprinkling yesterday. π¦π
