This is so true! Male cats don’t have kittens but they cause female cats to have them. And fighting and straying long distances looking for females is a serious problem. NEUTER NOW - no need to wait for good weather, males recover very quickly and don’t have a bunch of fur shaved off.

If you are feeding a male cat, please do not wait to have him neutered. Every second he is out there is a HUGE risk. Unneutered male cats fight. I don't care how sweet you think he is. All of them fight - it's their nature. And it's the way the most severe feline diseases are spread. You can prevent this before it happens! And, you can prevent a lot of new kittens being born outside to suffer in the harsh environment.

Don't wait for him to show up injured!
Don't wait for the weather to get warmer.
Don't wait because "he can't have kittens".
Don't wait because "you'll do it later".
Don't wait to earn his trust more.
Don't wait for him to contract deadly diseases.

Don't wait.

The size of the pouch can be small or it can be large enough that it swings when the cat walks. There's a difference between the primordial pouch and simply a fat belly. If you aren't sure whether your cat is overweight, talk with your veterinarian.

Good advice.

Good advice.

If your cat is displaying a behavior that is unwanted, identify the underlying cause. Is the behavior due to an undiagnosed medical issue? Is the cat trying to communicate something is wrong? Is the cat doing the best he can under the circumstances in the current environment? Is it a natural, instinctive behavior being displayed in an unwanted way because you haven’t met the cat’s needs? Here are a couple of examples. A cat who eliminates outside of the litter box isn’t being stupid or spiteful. Maybe the cat has a medical issue and is in pain or perhaps associates the pain with the box itself. Another reason for litter box avoidance is that the box conditions may not be tolerable, or perhaps the cat is being ambushed by another cat when in the box. If furniture scratching is the concern keep in mind that scratching is a natural, and very beneficial aspect of cat health. If the sofa is the target, it may mean you don’t have a scratching post or perhaps it’s not one that meets the cat’s needs. Look at behavior being displayed from the cat’s point of view. There’s always a reason for the behavior. Your job is to figure out what your cat is getting from it so you can provide a better option. In other words: think like a cat!

Our adult cats love having all our attention and playing with the extra toys we keep around for the kittens. Wilma is the quiet 9 yr old former feral who only plays now and then, but Victoria and the brothers Stanley and Stewie enjoy testing out the cat toys without having pesky babies around!

Peyton’s story is why we keep going. So sad how he suffered and passed away just as he was rescued. It’s impossible for me to fathom how anyone could abandon a cat they adopted and promised to care for, yet it happens way too often. Please, remember that pets are a lifetime commitment, and if events make it impossible to keep your commitment, the shelter you adopted from will ALWAYS take your pet back.

Peyton passed away in our shelter last night.

He came to us just yesterday, a weary soul found in a barn. Fourteen years old, underweight, half an ear missing, and struggling to breathe. His microchip, dating back to 2009, was a silent witness to a life that once was – a life that had somewhere turned bleak and lonely.

In his final hours, Peyton experienced moments of love and care that had been missing for so long. We cleaned his crusted nose, combed out his matts, and he purred, basking in the affection he so deserved. He clung to our warmth, his body going limp with trust and perhaps, relief.

This morning, we found him gone, his struggle quietly ended in the comfort of a soft blanket and a full belly. His departure is a profound reminder of the countless animals who face similar fates, animals whose stories go untold, whose lives end without a whisper.

Peyton's story is a glimpse into the harsh realities faced by many animals. It's a testament to the resilience and enduring hope they possess, even in the face of neglect and abandonment. It underscores the vital role shelters play – not just as a place of refuge, but as a final sanctuary where love and care are given, even if just for a moment.

As we mourn Peyton, let's remember the countless others like him. Each day, shelters across the country are filled with animals waiting for a second chance, for a family, for a home. They wait for someone to notice them, to care, to extend a hand of kindness.

Peyton's story is not just about loss; it's about awareness, compassion, and the bitter-sweet role shelters play in the lives of animals. In sharing his story, we hope to shed light on the unseen struggles and to inspire a community of care and support for these innocent lives.

Rest in peace, Peyton. In your final hours, you were surrounded by love, and your story will not be forgotten.

CAN GINNY BE YOUR BABY?
All the babies have been adopted which is wonderful. But Ginny has once again been passed over for the babies! She is still a kitten, even if she isn’t tiny, and she has so much love to give. When you pet her and look into her eyes, you see how cute and loving she is. Someone will be so blessed once they give her a chance!
Call 269-360-2825, tell them you want Ginny for your baby!

These stories are what keep us working and believing in our mission. The chance to give that abused suffering baby help to have a good life with love, that’s worth whatever we can do. You can’t give up. Yes, we can’t change the world and save all the homeless abused animals. But we can change the world for some, as many as we can manage.

Love this! Of course it’s true of other coat colors, but as the kahu of a formerly feral black cat (and several previous black kitties), I can say this is great!

Rescuing homeless animals is such an important mission, but it isn’t inexpensive. As a foster, I spend a good chunk of $ on supplies to feed and care for these babies in need. But our rescue organization Kitten Konnection covers the medical costs of helping them recover from illnesses and injuries. Plus, every kitten receives vaccinations, tests, wormer and spay/neuter surgery before being adopted, to give them a healthy start in their new home. If you can share this post, and help us raise some funds, it would allow us to continue giving these precious souls a chance at life, and to prevent so much suffering. And if you are able, any donation will go a long way.
