How to Brush Your Pets Teeth
Additional Dog Toothbrushing Tips And Reminders
Never use human toothpaste for your dog! Use dog toothpaste and a finger brush (or a children’s toothbrush).
Take your time – it’s a slow process at first but definitely worth the initial work for the long-term benefits for your pup’s dental health!
Keep treats on hand!
Start young and build toothbrushing into your dog’s daily routine.
Try massaging the outside of their lips and gums with the toothbrush before starting to rub their teeth.
If your dog is comfortable – try removing additional tartar from their teeth by brushing from the gum line vertically along the length of the tooth.
Talk to your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns about brushing your dog’s teeth – they will always be happy to provide additional advice, product recommendations, and a personal demonstration on your pet!
Let's talk about microchips!
A microchip is a small electronic chip that is about the size of a grain of rice. The microchip itself does not have a battery, and it is not activated until a scanner is passed over the area. When a lost pet is brought into a shelter or vet's office, this is a very helpful way of reuniting lost pets with their owners. We still recommend using identification collars and tags, especially because not everyone is aware of microchips, but this is a great addition. A microchip can be implanted during a routine office visit or during a sedated procedure such as a spay, neuter, or dental cleaning. In the video, the scanner reads the current chip in the device, and then we read Tink's chip.
