Asking for prayers. My love to everyone who reads this. Let's pray for each other today because prayers are needed right now. If I don't see your name, I'll understand. I ask my family and friends, wherever you might be, to kindly post this status for one hour to whisper a prayer for all of those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, or worries of any kind and need to know that someone cares. Do it for all of us, for nobody is immune. I hope to see this on the walls of my family and friends just for moral support. I did it for someone else, and you can, too!

The Wilson’s were so enamored with our Barney, er, Major Barney Kingston Wilson the First, that when they met our The Houdini Brothers Dash — now Sir Dasher Washington Wilson — they fell in love and had to take him home with them to be a true brother to his brother…

Do you have a dog that reacts to triggers? Have an exit strategy and practice it with your dog!

DO YOU HAVE AN EXIT STRATEGY?
An exit strategy for dogs is something that is pre planned and continually practiced until it becomes second nature.

Having this plan in place has huge benefits for dogs that react to triggers in the environment - be it other dogs, children, people, cyclists, skateboards or similar.

The exit strategy of quickly increasing distance when a trigger appears decreases stress levels, provides an opportunity to process information and helps dogs learn to respond in a different way from a space of safety.

Practicing quick U-turns, a sudden change in direction, speeding up or even hiding behind a tree are all useful ways of creating a strategy. Over time, some dogs will learn to remove themselves from a trigger on their own, before they start panicking, having learnt that moving away is an option they have.

Forcing a dog to face whatever is triggering them results in increased anxiety, stress or fear. They won’t just get used to it. A brain that is flooded with cortisol (the stress hormone) is unable to learn, process information, think clearly, or make better decisions.

After a long time of using exit strategies with one of my dogs that is reactive, she has begun to move away and create her own distance. Through practicing this pattern of creating distance she has realized that this is what she should do when that scary thing appears.

Some dogs may never get to this stage, and that’s also ok. Each dog is an individual, with different genetics, backgrounds and learning experiences. Accept your dog for who they are.

Think about how we may use exit strategies to help us cope and how they make us feel better.

Some time ago I suffered from debilitating panic attacks after a series of traumatic and life changing events. I couldn’t drive on a highway or be in an enclosed space. My daughter was graduating from university and I could not miss this event, but what if I had a panic attack in the auditorium, couldn’t get out and embarrassed her and myself?

A therapist that I was seeing at the time helped me to develop an exit strategy which enabled me to cope. I arrived at the venue early and found a seat right next to the exit. If I started panicking, I could just leave through the door. Just knowing that this option was available made such a difference to my state of mind and I ended up being able to make it through the entire ceremony.

The same strategy helped me cope on highways. I just had to drive to the next exit.. and then the next and the next if I felt up to it.

Sometimes we all need an exit strategy, our dogs included. It’s not about running away from or not facing a problem, but developing a plan to help us or our dogs cope in a situation where we’re uncomfortable.

As we were waiting to eat in Hattiesburg tonight my baby saw this Army Soldier and as he was walking in she said thank you for your service and he didn’t hear her.
When he walked back out she was shy so I said sir I don’t think you heard her a minute ago but she said thank you for your service! He said thank you and he appreciated it so he walked to his vehicle and got in.
Then he got out of his vehicle and walked up to Macie and said can you hold on to something for me and he pointed to his right arm at the 🇺🇸 and told Macie to take it off and hang on to it! Y’all talking about chills and tears!
I try and teach my kids to when they see a man or woman in uniform to thank them!

And. This. Guy.

He’s known as “Spot” for the spot of white that developed on his chest as a youngun. But we’re thinking Houdini would be a good name for this rascal; and at 7 months, he also needs a proper name. So let us know your name ideas in the comments, please.

He’s definitely a leader and knows what he wants and goes after it (especially if it’s a squirrel, or a bird, or to play with the neighbor’s Bully... ). Oh, and did we say he LOVES playing in the water?

He’s a doll, y’all. He loves to be brushed, and likes to lay at your feet, just to be near you. He also gives the greatest hugs and has the softest, curly coat. He’ll make a great pet, but we’ve also been evaluating his development to see if we might want to include him in our Future Studs Program. So far, he’s checked off all the boxes. So, if you live in Eastern Ft. Bend, Southern Harris, Western Galveston, or anywhere in Brazoria County, Texas, hit us up. And if you live elsewhere, hit us up too and we can talk. Whichever way it ends up, he’s going to be picking his forever people, because you’re gonna fall in love with this guy for sure.

Hey, y’all, we need help with a name... This guy. He’s known as “Dark Butt” (as opposed to his almost twin, “Light Butt”). He’s such a sweet guy. He’ll be the first to run up to you when you step outside during their playtime, or the first one at the gate in the puppy area in the morning or when they get up from a nap.

His brother is “Light Butt Louie”, PPL’s Louis XIV, after the House of Bourbon French King and going home to his people soon. So he needs a proper name too now, one that his people will hopefully love when they find him. We’d like to stay within the Initial Theme... so, DB. Any suggestions?

We’ve came across Daniel Boone and Dan Blocker when looking up famous DB people – lol, and could call him ‘Hoss’ in our beloved, pain-in-the-____ father-in-law’s memory. But we’re kind of thinking he might be a Bowie, as in David. There’s even a resemblance, don’t you think?

Pawdners! Miss 'Daisy' D is prepping for riding off into the Sunset with her new family.

They fell in love with her from afar, and while they hope to be back in Texas some day, they'll settle for taking a little bit of Texas back 'home' with them to the Washington D.C. area after their visit this weekend.

We can't wait to see Miss Daisy in her new home being loved on by this sweet, sweet family!

I think we need a Grand Dog's Day, don't you?

Mom and Dad went to hang out with the Shanester for breakfast today... Grandparents Day was a huge HIT EC Mason Elementary school this morning! Look at that LINE?!? And that was at 8:00 am. Breakfast started at 7:15!!

Still don't know why they didn't take us. We're Granddogs... We just had to wait on them to get back and tell us about all the fun they had.

Not. Fair.

We're sleeping in protest. Well, we were until Mom woke me up to take that pic.
