We are getting super excited to host our first ever 5K run on the farm! Walk or run while getting to see most of the animals in the pastures as you go by! The course is beautiful as it winds through our farm (woods and pasture). It is for a great cause! Proceeds will directly support children with special needs through offering free animal assisted therapy on the farm. We will be hosting a mini farmers market that day with organic farm products from Midnight Sun Farm and Grazy Acres (Gretta's Goats, too). Please come and spectate, shop, run, walk, and/or cheer on the runners. Farmer's Market free. Happening From 9AM-12PM. Tickets at https://grettasgoats.com

Please join us for the first annual 5K Fun Run/Walk at Gretta's Goats to benefit Healing Herd Therapy Farm!
Proceeds from the run will directly impact kids with special needs in our community and nearby communities by providing free animal assisted therapy/education on the farm. Click the link above ⬆️ to register and for more details. We will be hosting a small farmer's market on the farm that morning too! Two of my fav women farmer's will be at the farm selling their amazing veggies/eggs/grass fed meat. The course will wind its way through the farm past all the cute farm faces (goats, mini donkeys). Join us, get outside & run for a cause on May 18!

This week we are keeping a close eye on Snappie who is due to kid (fingers crossed) sometime between Tuesday and Sunday.
This will be Snappie's second time being a mom with 2 years in between kiddings. Most of our mama goats now were born on our farm and will die on our farm. This is something I take pride in. We do not breed our goats to exhaustion and we leave the babies with their mamas. The babies learn to be goats by watching mom and have continuous access to their milk. This makes for healthy and happy babies. We will probably only breed the same goat 2 or 3 times in its lifetime with multiple years in between. We keep the boys as pets/grazers or they join our goat hiking crew. The occasional castrated male goat is sold to an approved farm or hobby farm as a pet. Castrated male goats make excellent companion animals to other goats or horses. I'm glad to provide that service to folks who have lost a horse or goat and need a buddy for their remaining horse or goat. Castrated males also make a great addition to most hobby farms as they are friendly and help to keep overgrown areas grazed.
Just wanted to share a little about our humane farming practices. This little goatie in the photo is Lil' Snaps, Snappies kid from 2023. We are hoping for more sweet caramel colored little ones from Snappie this season. ❤️
A restock of goat milk soap was delivered last week to
Our soap has been sold there for over 12 years. We appreciate this long standing partnership with another woman owned small business.
Enjoy this sun today everyone!

The spring season's goat hikes kick-off March 22. We have lots of room in the March 22 hike still if you would like to join us! There are 6 spots left for the March 23 hike and just a couple spots for March 24. We also have a hike on March 29 with just a few spots left. Get your tickets at https://grettasgoats.com and hike with us this March.
You may even catch a baby goat being born on those dates as it will be during our kidding season on the farm. We had a great check-up yesterday from the vet - all creatures in tip top shape except for Marigold, the mini donkey. Marigold's report was that she could loose a few pounds😂 But, I think she is perfect especially after the cold winter we have had. She will get after it this summer I'm sure:)

Berniece & Anderson💕
These two are unlikely buddies but have formed a pretty tight knit bond.
You can often find these two snugged up in a pile of straw in the barn or just hanging out enjoying a sleepy afternoon. The livestock guardian dog's relationship with its herd/flock never ceases to amaze me. We are gearing up for our annual big spring wellness check tomorrow on the farm for all the farm critters from our veterinarian. We always try to make the day as easy and stress free as possible for the animals by getting them corralled with a buddy before his arrival (less stress for the animals than being transported to the clinic). We are grateful for these on farm visits and for the vast knowledge our veterinarian has. It's always a challenging to find a knowledgeable goat vet as most of their studies in school focus on livestock like horses and cattle. Our vet luckily also has a goat farm where he raises Nubian goats. Everybody seems to be going into spring healthy and chubby. Rotational grazing, fresh air and providing everyone with ample room to roam and be goats is a recipe for success.
More restocks! farmstore in Grayslake
received a big restock of products at the end of last week. in Rockton will be restocked tomorrow!
Thanks as always for supporting small, local farmers and small businesses. We appreciate you!
